Can I ask that someone help me with the concept of headmasters in the story? I've seen Rebirth, and I feel like that doesn't help anything. I mean, as a toy, it's fun as hell, a fantastic idea. But when you think about the story, why would any Cybertronian do this to themselves? And why would any human/nebulon be willing to commit to this?

So there's the increase in power, "two heads are better than one", I'll buy that. But then does the nebulon/human just give up his life to be a headmaster? And what would be the point of detaching your headmaster, to have him go around and complete smaller tasks? And in some cases, like Scorponok in the Rebirth cartoon, you couldn't even tell Scorponok could think on his own. Has a Cybertronian ever switched heads and bodies in canon?

Does the Japanese cartoon provide any form of logical explanation as to how they function?

Despite all the bitching people have made about non-headmaster characters headmasters, I'm loving the homages they're doing with the partners that makes them something other than a mini version of themselves. References to soundblaster, twincast, megatron on galvatron, are great. And I love how the original targetmaster guys have their headmasters designed with their old gun partners in mind.

Imagine a Titan Wars Bulkhead with a headmaster homaging Henry Masterson. Bonus points for a solo titan master release of The Headmaster.

And how bout Titan Wars Starscream with Headmaster Dr. Arkeville, and various Diaclone-era guys with Diaclone

From what I can tell, the Headmasters are sorta meant for scouting and going places that a giant robot can't fit. And the robot brain and stuff doesn't seem to be within the actual head on headmasters. I think Rebirth had some thing about Chromedome saving his data within the torso or something like that.

I like to think of Headmasters not actually having functional heads- the heads are just there kinda like how some bugs and snakes have fake heads for predators to go after. Perhaps the head is just their to make the robot look normal, and is basically just a hideaway for smaller robots/pilots.

The Japanese explanation is a lot better imo. Basically, the headmaster unit is the real robot and the vehicle/body is just a giant mech for them to use, since the real robots are only like human sized. They trained themselves to make their altmode a robot head as an adaptor/control center for the lifeless "transtector" body.

Heads would sometimes be switched in the HM anime as well. It changed the stats of characters (the head determined it, like the toy), and they'd also do it to essentially switch spots with somebody else.

For example, Chromedome is being chased by Weirdwolf or something and he has important Decepticon knowledge to tell Fort Max. Chromedome can "CROSS HEAD ON!" with a nearby Autobot, like Highbrow, so Highbrow can hold Weirdwolf off while Chromedome can deliver the information with the use of Highbrow's transtector.

which IDW Grimlock are you thinking about? there are many. for the current MTMTE Grimlock there's no toys that look like it. FOC Grimlock's design was used in IDW for a bit, and the best toy for that is Planet X Vulcan

I find them to be very nice. quite expressive. My main complaint are the balljoints for the feet, those joints are not suitable for big toys, they're not as balanced as they should be. Every PE upgrade after the Bruticus hands/feet have used tiny rubber soles in order to balance them better, which helps a little.

A year or two ago I'd looked into getting an Animated Rodimus to be the main Hot Rod of my collection after seeing that someone was selling a 3D printed G1 head for him. That plan fell through when I realized the head alone cost $45+.
I'll take this new one, I just hope his shoulders lower a little bit, they seem bit too tall but that might just be the transformation.

All of the CW molds have tolerance issues, though it's usually not bad. The only ones you usually have to look out for are the copter molds, whose ports are the thinnest and also the ones that seem to have the most tolerance issues to boot.

The trick to balancing them is usually to put the legs BACK one click further than you think you'd need. I notice Defensor, Bruticus, Menasor all seem to have their weight distributed more towards the front than the center, so they'll lean forward and take a nosedive if you keep their mass too frontloaded. Superion is the same, but a bit more balanced overall I've found. Menasor's the heaviest so he's most likely to want to hurl himself to the floor.

I usually keep any excess weapons in a ziploc baggy. Handfootguns especially, since I get PE sets for every combiner.

I know you're trolling, but honestly, even Thunderhoof and Fracture are rather mediocre transformers. They aren't any better than strongarm/drift/optimus/quillfire. Neither is your "taste".
