The Headmasters part isn't specifcally catering to me, no. It's nice to see SOME of the old Headmasters get updates, and I think Galvatron having Megatron as a Headmaster is neat. What I'm referring to is that ever since the Thrilling 30 line this line has been heavily geared towards the active IDW cast and aesthetics, a trend clearly continuing into Titans Returns. Given that I've been reading IDW since Infiltration, yes, I am clearly the target demographic.

I can see MTMTE not being to everyone's taste, and some of the fanbase is fucking atrocious. But they keep forgetting that James Roberts is a fucking cunt of a writer who loves killing characters and sinking certain ships, so their salty reactions to their OTPs being sometimes-literally killed is glorious.

I think the most likely explanation is that the same designer worked on both and the greebling is just a go-to styling they use for mechanical detailing.Even though anon keeps calling it a "bayformer" piece, it was a toy-only design so the armor wasn't based on any movie design in particular. It's a toy-original thing loosely based on his movie jetpack. some designer would've had to come up with the detailing on their own, not in reference to any particular design.

That's the old, 2010 way of thinking. That habs't been so for years. DOTM's line ended in less than a year, and the movie trilogy line got cancelled. AoE's line may still be shelfwarming in some places, but it only had about 3 or 4 waves of toys before ending. You should be noticing the way things have been for the last 6 years by now. The days of giant, years long movie pushes are over, and have been for at least 4 years. We don't need them anymore.

Well first of all, it's the "masters" for a reason. This line is for headmasters, targetmasters, and powermasters. They're just all being turned into headmasters that pilot weapons.
So far, 90% of the line falls in that category. I think only Galvatron, Soundwave/Blaster (and that's only mildly so, due to tapes) Alpha Trion, Astrotrain/Sentinel, and now new megs and prime fall into that category.

DCAU style is the way most 2D action animation is going now. It's either that, or CGI robots. Even anime rarely does hand-animated mecha anymore. Personally, as an animation enthusiast I enjoy seeing TFs in that style, though maybe we can see less quirks like chins next time.
