I'd totally forgotten about this guy. But no, I wouldn't say a few pieces in a single set count. And azure? Eeeh. It's just light blue. It doesn't have enough green in it. Plus it'd be a secondary colour, like purple is. It'd change a lot of things both to the design of the sets that would have it and the design of earth sets.

Turquoise died with this set. The designer, Mark Stafford, was given the choice of either using dark purple or turquoise/teal for the color scheme - teal was pretty much at the end of its run, not having been in any sets for a while now, so if it wasnt put back in a set now it never would be.

Regardless, Stafford chose purple, mainly because it fit the “panther” motif better. As such its a bit of a meme in the afol community that Mark Stafford killed teal/turquoise.

They needed an expendable theme to introduce and experiment with CCBS. Remember that since day one HF promoted the concept of a naked robot being equiped with modular armour and tools for every mission.

I remember back when the first pictures of HF 2.0 (first CCBS sets) surfaced, various people on /biog/'s shitlist came down ZEALOUSLY on anyone making a negative comment. Back then I thought these people were blind and stupidly brand loyal. Man, I was disgusted when I realized they were sychophants kissing LEGO's ass.

It was a generic enough base to basically build anything on. And easier to manage because of it's lack of any compelling story whatsoever.
Bonkle 2 has a continuous plotline which has to be at least slightly mystical. This kind of line is much hard to manage compared to a concept of mass-produced heroes and any possible thing could had been counted as a enemy and something that doesn't contradict the world it's set in.

When you try to make something as complex as G1 you set yourself many restrictions with the design.
You know, the exact reason why many MOCers don't give jack shit if their MOC fits into the story or not.

I'm so pissed at LEGO for making these shitty CCBS Star Wars sets. They're so bad. Why did they even bother making these? They're shit and I'm pretty sure nobody buys these pieces of crap. If they didn't have made these, the budget that went into these shitty ass sets could be transfered to BIONICLE instead, and we would have new Bionicle molds, or even MORE bionicle sets.

I'm so angry at lego for making these shitty CCBS star wars sets. They're just bad. I bet nobody buys them because they're really shitty. Just look at them. I fucking hate these. If they didn't have wasted the budget on this shitty failures, it could have gone to Bionicle G2 and we could have more molds, or even new sets entirely. Now we're stuck with only 5 sets in the summer, whereas in the past bionicle times we would have 6 toa sized sets, and at least 3 titans.

The weapons for this line are so fucking weird. Onua is such an outlier in every way. Five out of the six have blades but Onua just gets another hammer? There's also a thematic with the toa associated with flying creatures having dual swords, and the two associated with attacking creatures having spears. Then you have Kopaka and Onua, who have totally different weapons? The only link I can see is that they both shoot. If they were trying to go for a theme they should have stuck with it for all six, otherwise it just looks lazy.

Even more bizarrely, Onua's hammer beats the shit out of Ekimu's. His hammer doesn't even fire, it's practically a DOWNGRADE from his Protector form. Its only "function" is to look pretty, and it doesn't even really accomplish that. I just don't understand this whole year's design logic at all.

Well, I guess it's possible that there are just two halves of the mask, and like... The people of extremely ancient Okoto use the bottom section to communicate with Ekimu in the future using the top half. Before Makuta ruins everything, there's an "ancient mask exhibit" at the capital of Okoto. Which implies there were Mask Makers around long before the brothers. They probably created the mask of Creation, Control, the Unity masks, and hell. Even the Toa themselves, before sending them to the future.

I'm not denying a connection at all. I'm still open to the concept. But I still feel like at this point, G2 could still be self contained and they're just playing off the idea that the original Vahi looked like only half a mask in a way entirely unrelated to G1.

I guess we'll find out eventually.

Does anyone know where I can go about getting suitable replacement rubber bands for all the old sets?

I've been putting all my bionicles back together for storage purposes and jesus christ it's like a rubber band holocaust went on in my lego box. Out of what I can estimate should be like, 30 of those green bohrok rubber bands, I found exactly 2 that weren't broken.

And they're either overpriced to shit on bricklink or sold by people with absurd minimum checkout prices.

I don't particularly care about authentic rubber bands or anything, something about the same strength/size is all I want.
