I honest to god don't understand what drives people like Russo who are so prevalent in the fanbase.

With Ed I kinda get it since him along with August are such huge figureheads (though August isn't anywhere near a prude) that continue their livelihood through Kaiju knowledge, but people like Russo accomplish NOTHING, and they actively dislike anything new to come out of the hobby.

They're apathetic of new films, hate fresh designs, criticize merchandise unless it's arthouse vinyls/kits based on specific classic monsters and so on. It's not to say that because it's Godzilla, you HAVE to like it, it's even understandable why people wouldn't care for the rebooted 2014 Godzilla, but these people enjoy nothing! You'd expect people like this would be burned out and move on, but they live for this hobby every day and refuse to even attempt at connecting towards anything new, it's insane and makes no sense to me, you'd think constant boredom would burn you out?

Perhaps older fans mourning the most for Guy Tucker's death, whom is by-far the most critical of all historians, is rather telling of the fandom's mental state. I dunno.

Now John Rocco Roberto, that was a guy who everyone tripped over themselves to memorialize despite his assblasted ragequit of the fandom back in 1999 and attempt to come back to relevance in 2003 that never amounted to anything. Guy did some decent stuff for the fandom back int he nineties by getting G-Con started and all, but he was hardly up there with the likes of Tucker, Ragone, or even KPA, and threw it away by acting like a complete baby.

I've not really been involved in the online fandom since about 2005 but if anything it was usually the opposite. All the younger teenage fans usually just copied the opinions of Norman or Ed and liked Godzilla '54 and Mothra Vs. Godzilla because they were supposed to.

Hello I've just learned about the X-Plus Leatherback and I have a question some questions for you all!

What is a "Ric Boy" exclusive and where do I get it? I think it's the same as the standard release but with a different head or something. Why do these "vinyls" cost so much if they aren't even 12" tall? Is this a scam?

Will this be a lot better than the NECA figure? I know it's not articulated, but it's not like NECA figures have any useful articulation to speak of. Me? I'm still hoping for MonsterArts of the Kaiju and SRC's of the Jaegers someday.

Sorry if I'm saying dumb things but I usually only buy action figures so I'm pretty ignorant to the Kaiju vinyl scene.

Seems fair, given that nowadays it's Heisei stuff that's being made. With exception of things like X-plus, which may have a different consumer market (the kind that can throw 10k+ on expensive ass vinyls)

That said, a part of the reason why Showa Ultra kaijus are still popular is because they've been constantly used throughout Showa and since Max. It's not just nostalgia fags who grew up with Showa that are buying the Zetton and Bemstar sofubis.
Godzilla doesn't really do that, which is why you're not gonna see Showa monsters or Showa versions of monsters as often.

Showa vinyls don't get many reissues because the market is taken up by high quality X-Plus stuff and the multicolored vinyls. Most older fans don't want the Bandai vinyls because they're middle of the road; not unique like Bullmark/Marusan/etc., not high quality representations like X-plus.
