Shit post is shit

Okay so I have a question:
Is it possible at all to make a profit selling MOCs on Ebay?

I'd love to get into building MOCs, but Lego is expensive and I'm unemployed so I'm unable to justify doing it. If however I can sell the MOCs for a profit, even if it's just enough profit to pay for my own future MOCs that I wouldn't sell off, then that's an entirely different story and I'd likely get the chance to delve into it.
>>
>>5361885
Aw man, the beard is attached to the hat? I was hoping to make a Flying Nun fig. The LotR sets were expensive, but had lots of cool stuff. I'm not even into the series, but they were perfect for goblins, orcs, dwarves, and elves to fill out my Castle races. The Elves theme is sort of filling that role now too.
>>
>>5365123
Either next wave, or never. As it stands all we get is a sticker.
>>
>>5365185
Not even with a DVD? A living Merlok would go great in that kind of release.
>>
>>5365195
Personally I'd love to see a sort of trans-yellow/gold minifig for him. Just... Everything translucent and hologram looking.
>>
>>5365170
All these rad Elves sets are making me think a Nexo Knights and Elves crossover would be cool, it even fits with the tech = human, nature = elves thing
>>
>>5365032
>>5365055

There's more then enough Doctors/Doctor verities to fill an entire CMF series;
>First Doctor
>Second Doctor
>Third Doctor
>Fourth Doctor
>Fifth Doctor
>Sixth Doctor
>Sixth Doctor (Alt Blue Costume)
>Seventh Doctor
>Eight Doctor
>Eight Doctor (Pre-Regenaration Costume)
>War Doctor
>Ninth Doctor
>Tenth Doctor
>Tenth Doctor (Alt Blue Suit/Meta-Human Doctor)
>Eleventh Doctor (Tweed Jacket)
>Eleventh Doctor (Purple Coat)
>Eleventh Doctor (Raggedy Doctor)
>Eleventh Doctor (Old/Trenzalore)
>Twelfth Doctor

Then there's all the different monsters, aliens and enemies. Many of which have multiple design variations. From the revived series alone we have;
>Dalek
>Dalek Sec (Cult of Skaro)
>Dalek Sec (Human Hybrid)
>Dalek Emperor
>Dalek ("Iron-Sides")
>Dalek (New Dalek Paradigm)
>Davros
>Colony Sarff
>Cybermen (Cybrus Industries)
>Cybermen Controller (Cybrus Industries)
>Cybermen (Current)
>Weeping Angle
>The Silence
>Madam Kovarian
>Sontarans
>The Great Intelligence
>Snowmen
>Ice Governess
>Zygons
>Silurians
>Ice Warriors
>Ood
>Judoon
>Weeping Angels
>Slitheen
>The Master ("Prof. Yana")
>The Master ("Harold Saxon")
>The Master (Saxon Reborn)
>The Master (Missy)
>Rassilon (Dalton)
>Rassilon (Maester Luwin)
>Auton
>Gas Mask Kid ("Are you my Mummy?")
>Vashta Nerada Spacesuit

And of course companions and supporting characters. Once again just from the revived series;
>Rose Tyler
>Martha Jones
>Donna Nobel
>Donna Nobel (Bride)
>Amy Pond
>Amy Pond (Kiss-a-gram/police woman)
>Rory Williams
>Rory Williams (The Lone Centurion)
>Clara Oswald
>Oswin Oswald
>Clara Oswin Oswald (Bar Maid)
>Clara Oswin Oswald (Governess)
>Jenny
>Capt. Jack Harkness (Time Agent)
>Capt. Jack Harkness (Torchwood)
>Micky Smith
>Vastra
>Jenny Flint
>Stax
>Kate Lethbridge-Stewart
>Osgood
>River Song
>Idris
>Time Lord General (Male)
>Time Lord General (Female)
>Wilfred Mott
>ME
>Ohila

That's 80 different minifigs they could do, from this list alone. That's five series worth.

The Doctors all have so many damn costumes that you could make multiple series just from those. Like the First Doctor's scarf and hat or his bombastic outfit from The Reign of Terror, the Second's giant puffy fur coat, Four's buccaneer look from his final season, Three's countless velvet jackets and capes and maybe even a shirtless variant with his dragon tattoo.

I have a chink one and an official one. Quality wise, you cant tell them apart. Paint jobs good, joints are good, cape is good, etc. Only thing that was off was his saber blade, which was a pinkish orange color instead of red. Easy enough fix and cheaper than paying full price.

Why? If somebody can make some money doing it, what's the real problem?

there's combatbrick, ichibantoys, some others I can't remember that sell MOCs as custom sets, so it's possible...good luck if you decide to do it.

I wasn't hating, I was being serious. A job will help you build what you want.

There's nothing wrong with selling instructions.

You're paying for the time and effort somebody put in to fully flesh something out that the Lego group usually ignores. You're paying for the time and effort the individual put in to make a step by step manual of the process.

Now, if you're charging above .... maybe $5... now that's criminal, but only because I'm cheap.

>How does /toy/ feel about the lotr and hobbit legos?
Boy don't get me started. I have a love-hate relationship towards that. LOTR is what got me out of my dark age (I own atleast one of every single set) but it ended extremely disappointing as we missed out on key characters and both the last waves of LOTR and Hobbit was extremely poor.

I still love LOTR. first wave had great sets, from the smaller Shelob set to the amazing Helm's Deep, which is my favourite LEGO castle ever. Tower of Orthanc is amazing too, and a real treat to any LOTR fan. However the second wave had not outright bad but rather very weird choices for sets. Pirate Ship, Elrond Council and Black Gate battle when we could have had Balrog set and Battle of Pelennors Field??

I dislike Hobbit alot more, partly because I hated the movies. Still, I will admit that the Bag End is just beatiful, it's easily the single best set out of all LOTR/Hobbit. Other than that I'm not very fond of the sets, most just feel like pieces of rocks or wood. The last wave was especially poor, the Smaug set being the worst with a horribly inflated price and shitty minifigs, sole saving grace was the admittedly cool Smaug.

Still gonna miss official Eowyn, Sauron, Gondor Soldiers and more, you can build your own "sets" but minifigs are worse.

If anything, we get dirty version of her after Ep VIII after Han threw her to the trash compactor.

Examples:
Battle of Black Gate: $30.00 (grabbed 2)
Attack on Weathertop: $20.00
Mines of Moria: $40.00
Council of Elrond: $14.00
The Orc Forge: $35.00 (private seller)
Shelob Attacks: $9.00
Gandalf Arrives: $7.00
Uruk-Hai Army: $14.00

Same, I really want the Sauron minifig from the game
I'm naively holding out hope that they make them for Dimensions.
Like a little soldier of Minis Tirith with a trebuchet or something.

Come to think of it, why can't Lego just do a CMF series based on Lord of the Rings. I know the reason they can't for Star Wars is because it violates merch licenses for action figures, but with LotR there's no action figures on the market, so why not? Is it just because they think it won't sell well enough?
>>
>>5366738
>Is it just because they think it won't sell well enough?
Probably. Hobbit didn't seem to do that well.

It'd be nice if they did more LEGO Dimensions stuff. If they did a team pack with Eowyn and a Rohan soldier or a Boromir/Gondor soldier pack that'd basically get everything easily doable out of the way.
>>
>>5366738
Because they only do one CMF series at a time and unless it sells like their normal series or the Simpsons line they aren't going to do it.

That's the same price as the Ewok Village, right? So it'll probably be pretty sizable. I'd expect a nice exterior build, with maybe a Wampa cave, bacta tank, and command room interior. A tauntaun, a wampa, Luke, Leia, Han, R2, C-3PO, a few Rebel troopers, some Rebel support staff, the medical droid, a few Imperial troops.

Maybe a hanger + Snow speeder.

But would they really not sell?
The Simpsons CMF seem to do nothing but sit on shelves, yet they got a second series.

All that would be needed is one series. If it fails, well that sucks. If it does well, it could open the door to other CMF lines doing something similiar, like the above mentioned Doctor Who idea.
>>
>>5366807
The Simpsons Series 2 shelf-warms because it didn't need a second series and nobody wants the same characters in different outfits.
>>
>>5366807
Simpsons was already planned for two series. They would have gotten a second wave no matter how poorly it sold.

>>

pieces, its probably easier to just throw them away. any scratched piece is damaged or fingerprinted or just not up to "lego standard"
the plastic though, i could believe. my best guess is that melting irregular pieces is harder than melting those tiny ass pellets plastic companys use, combine that with the way it would be colored.
rather than hire maybe two dozen people to smash them, they would need to hire people to depackage, open, and possibly sort, or at the least buy machinery to do that

to them, its both easier and cheaper to just throw them away in a controlled manner, then remake new ones
just like all products, theres the cost it takes to make, and what they sell them at. its probably more expensive to "refurbish" a set, than to buy materials to make a brand new one
>>
>>5367310
fuck man, theres gotta be people there who know that they are sitting on a goldmine.

so, could any one of the workers just take any of those for keeps?
>>
>>5367316
There would almost certainly be very strict code about not taking anything if you work there.

I'm sure people do it anyway, but still.

If there are actually damaged pieces and misprints and that sort of thing, Lego would probably want to keep them out of circulation. If they won't go to charity I doubt they'll go to some mexicans with sledgehammers.
>>
>>5367317
so you gotta know a guy who works there, drive around in an unmarked van when your guy clears the place up, haul everything in your van and black market that shit.
>>
>>5367319
If I knew where the place was I'd at least attempt it.
Some post above mentioned that it only happens on one day a year though, which would be crazy.

Frankly, though, if I worked there I'd take sets enough for me, but I wouldn't resell. I'd rather a permanent lifetime supply of Lego than risk losing it to make money.
>>
>>5367316
im sure there is, but honestly an employee who knows how "valuable" lego is, is probably better than one who doesn't, he might actually care sets are being destroyed rather than throwing his 8am beercan in with them.
also its not like he's out there smashing a complete oriental expedition wave, right now he's smashing fucked up nexo knights, elves, and 2015 returns.
im not sure how old everyone is here, but i think we can all agree, a steady paycheck is far more important than trying to pocket bag 4 from wu's dragon and hoping co-workers, cameras, or bosses dont see
>>
>>5367321
if thats just once a year, then it wouldnt be very lucrative to sneak that stuff out.

but if it does happen once a year, i dont see why anyone would get anal about a bunch of "lego that was on its way to a landfill" being sold as "lego that was on its way to a landfill".

IMO skeletons aren't what you need so much as just ideas and a good sense of what parts will provide good articulation.

I actually thought it was an armored animal at first. This is the entirety of Wookieepedia's article on the luggabeast:

>Luggabeasts were semi-mechanical creatures in the galaxy.[1] At least one luggabeast lived on the desert world of Jakku in the decades following the Battle of Endor. A scavenger named Teedo used a luggabeast as a beast of burden on Jakku.[2]

And here's what the Databank says:

>Cybernetic beasts of burden found on frontier worlds, luggabeasts are a fusion of organic being and mechanical creation, with their heads hidden away behind heavy armor plating and optical instruments. Jakku’s Teedos use luggabeasts as pack animals, calibrating the cyborg creatures’ instruments to find droids and other valuable salvage.

Not a problem.
Building in LDD is kinda like drawing in one small sense, at first it's a little difficult to want to start with a completely blank piece of paper or file, but as time passes and you do these things more often it gets easier to start new stuff.

On the other hand, I still have that odd habit of making a pile of LDD models in a single file. I at least keep dupes, nowadays.

You remind me also that I kinda wanted to make MOCs of existing stuff from anime and the like. I tried a Crab type a little while ago but was dissuaded by how I was bungling the windshields immediately. I should try it again.

You have made me a very, very happy man.
>>
>>5369652
Ah shit, are you the guy who'd made Reimu? Cool yo.

My advice for the pelvis is that you could rotate the whole thing. You're building with studs facing up as if building from a baseplate, which, while okay, is clearly holding you back here. If you use Technic axle 1x2s and some towball axles for the leg and torso connections whilst keeping what you have for the front and back of the skirt, posing'd be more feasible.

You may actually need to shorten the leg covers, unfortunately. As they are now the feet will have trouble bending both forward and sideways, and will only really be able to bend often when the feet are leaning back.

Did you Bricklink Reimu yet? I've got parts coming in, myself.

Yeah, I'm the guy who made the Reimu a couple threads back. Main roadblocks right now are getting a parts list together, IRL projects, and my own laziness.

Parts list is easy, as mentioned earlier just use tools like Brickficiency or make an HTML build guide for the parts glossary at the end of the guide.

Clever use of the Technic pin plates, though. I'd say that the right pelvis is superior to the first for the most part, but may still limit articulation.

I did try shortening the dress about two studs from what I planned, and I also changed the bottom joints to be more flexible.

I did figure out what was causing some of the posing problems though - turns out that rounded piece on the front of the thigh is just enough in the way of the pin plate that it keeps in from moving foward all the way. Same thing applies to one of the rounded plates on the inside.

There's also another try at the upper torso in the background with the arms on. Might try thickening them at some point...

I would've kept the rounded plate and exchanged for the towball axle. That's why I use them all the time; they provide a little extra reach compared to Mixel towball plates and as a result you get more room to work or jiggle parts. By comparison mixel plates are always nearly flush with bricks.

Damn nice. I see you're using the towball axles as opposed to plates now, so you may want to change the leg's connections accordingly, as they are now they may or may not be a bit flimsy. This is how I usually do things. The 1x1 male towballs' position can be changed to make the "narrowness" of the legs different, but you knew this.

Just got two out of my six Bricklink orders in. Sweet as hell. Happy new years, you beautiful bastards.

hey, that's not a farfetched set idea - we got the carbonite chamber....

and frankly, looking at that TFA set, Maz's place, they're not above shlocking some bricks roughly together and giving us a bunch of characters (as opposed to generic soldiers in battle packs)

Just saddened by the lack of creativity, actually scratch that you don't even need to be creative to add a few plates and simple bricks to extend it. It just takes a little bit of effort. Just so many people hound builders for "instructions" nowadays. No one wants to try anything for themselves anymore. This is probably the easiest mod you could think of and your begging people to "reverse-engineer" it like its some kinda rocket-science thermo-nuclear bomb.

A lot of people would have to order more pieces to extend it, and knowing how the person did it in addition to what parts were used is helpful.

There are a lot of Lego fans that enjoy building by the instructions a lot more than the creative, fiddly side of it.

The only thing wrong with either side is the hostility that seems to exist when someone asks "Hey, how'd you do that?"

The pieces used are abundant in literally any grey star Wars set. And I could fully understand someone asking "hey how'd you do that" on an advanced moc. Trust me there are a lot of those floating around. But the mod shown just copied the design of the official Lego model and just extended it. There is no thinking about it whatsoever, just take the design given to you and add 6 studs to it. It isn't complicated and does not need to be reverse-engineered. Some of you guys just lack a lot of confidence in building. You don't even want to try you just want modifications spoon fed to you. It completely goes against the idea of the hobby.

YOUR idea of the hobby. Like I said, many people aren't in it for the creative side. They aren't buying sets to tear them apart after building them and then using them for other things. What's fun to you is tedious and boring to some others.

If they enjoy building from instructions, why is that "wrong"?

If you aren't creating mocs then buying Lego isn't a hobby. You're just a collector. And you shouldn't be an entitled prick saying things like "he didn't post Fucking instructions to his moc grrr". Lego collectors are literally at the bottom of the Lego hierarchy, right above Lego scalpers, and maybe MAYBE above minimum customizers. Collectors are overgrown man-children who probably masterbate to Lego YouTube reviews. Hobbyist's actually build mocs and don't just oogle at them and comment "pls post instructions." Honestly I feel sorry for you guys.

Jesus fuck, here I thought I was having a halfway civil conversation and then bam! A wild entitled prick appears.

I'd rank judgmental assholes like you way lower than scalpers on the totem pole - Doesn't matter what you create if you're just a douchebag.

TLC would agree with me - Lego is a hobby to enjoy however it gives you joy. Trying to put others down for "not enjoying it right" is just sad.

You can't just buy something, stick it on your shelf and call it a hobby. I do that with food and I don't have a food hobby. Hobby's are things you "work on". But you've probably never worked a day in your life have you? Do mommy and daddy still buy all your sets for you? And newsflash, Lego is a business they don't give two shits how much joy you get out of it and what you do with your bricks. They Fucking trashed a bunch of sets cause it would be less of a loss then trying to coordinate shipping them to Nigeria or some Shit. If you honestly get joy from buying something and putting it on your shelf. That's the saddest Fucking thing I've ever heard. But if you get joy from using Lego bricks to build something on your own, put it on the shelf or internet and look at it and say "good for me that looks great". Then you are doing it a whole lot better. Also how the fuck am I entitled? I'm entitled to my opinion and this is it.
