Those of you just joining us, please read this guide. Please read it before asking questions as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "Plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model." If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here.

Group Build

So, to reiterate, for this group build
Primary: white
Secondary: purple or pink (or both, fuck it)
Trim: gold

Due date: February 1st.
Email: [email protected]

Don't forget about the lineart in the OP.
>>
>>5351627
how important is the gold trim I was planning on doing

>>5351247
>>5351069

for the group build/doing it anyway because its cool

I wouldn't know where to incorporate gold
>>
>>5351645
Normally I'm not picky with it, but, this really doesn't follow the scheme. If you want to use the same colors, swap the purple with white, the white and blue to gold, and the pale purple to pink or purple.
>>
>>5351651
IMO having the white be primary with pink secondary instead of having the primary be pink is a missed opportunity.
>>
>>5351660
pink primary would be very hard for people to pull off

that z+ works but it was made by someone in the model graphix magazine

alternatively we could just have those colours and people pick any selection of them
>>
>>5351664
>pink primary would be very hard for people to pull off
I think most of the gundams that are mostly white would work in pink and/or lilac.
>>
>>5351660
>IMO having the white be primary with pink secondary instead of having the primary be pink is a missed opportunity.
>>5351664
>alternatively we could just have those colours and people pick any selection of them

Bloody hell. Why do people have to complain? If you don't like the choices, don't build with them.
>>
>>5351693
People are allowed to voice their opinions. There's no point having a community project if nobody in the community engages with it.
>>
>>5351693
Because anon maybe ypu don't understand that PINK IS A FEMININE COLOR AND IT'S UNMALY CUZ IT MAKES ME QUESTION NY SEXUALITY
Jk but thats probably what some people think
>>
>>5351703
There was multiple votes, as well as a compromise made because people screamed about pink being rigged.
>>
>>5351693
Sorry any selection means that they'd pick the primary secondary and trim from the pool of colours.

>>5351707
No one complained about pink
>>
>>5351714
>No one complained about pink

really? i guess you never read any of the GPG threads since to poll started. or the spamming on /m/ or /a/ or even /tv/.

I dont care much for pink mecha, but its time i did a pink tie fighter. question is do i use an HG ball or keep it the vanilla tie interceptor kit?
>>
>>5351735
>question is do i use an HG ball or keep it the vanilla tie interceptor kit?

or do i go full retard and make an HG ball/tie fighter/hello kitty monstrosity?
>>
>>5351745
I urge you to do so.

I think I'm going to step out of the group build. I really want to do the zeta plus and I'd rather not have the rules bent for me, I can't think of anything else to do and the only other kit I have lying around is a gm striker
>>
>>5351745
I'd love to see that, personally.
>>
>>5351714
Everybody complained about pink because it will look like shit most of the time.

First one down. I really like these little things. Glad I got the decals on there without any issues, I've never used them before. My only real gripe is that the plastic for these is a bit more frail than that of a Gundam. Not sure if I'm gonna do any painting outside of the panel lining I did, I kinda like it as is.
>>
>>5351863
Are you going to paint the pilot?
Shouldn't the bot have its eyes painted/stickered?
It looks really nice, btw.
>>
>>5351870
Well, I want for them to be painted, yes, but I might entrust a friend to do it, I'm a bit shit with painting & they're awfully small/detailed. The eyes actually are small clear balls that hadda be glued into place. Creates a very cool lens-like effect that didn't photograph very well, unfortunately. Thanks!
>>
so i got a complete zoids liger panzer recently covered in nubs, ive been de seaming this thing for a long time, god damn this plastic is hard as a rock compared to bandai. its like a cross between polyethylene and pts. it still sands down though.

Anyone really hate 00 Quanta? It looks like some fusion of Exia and Raiser but with none of the good stuff and just some weird shit all over.
>>
>bought mr surfacer 500 and 1000
>heard the 500 could fill some seams
>try it out
>after 4 hours of frustrations give up
>wake up today and realised I was a fucking idiot and used the 1000 to fill instead

That said, this shit dries so smooth. Has anyone attempted to brush it on as primer?
>>
>>5351898
The Quanta is like somebody looked at the Exia and went "okay, let's make this as generic and boring as possible".
>>
Putting together a Gundam for too long makes me feel cross eyed.

I always lose heart at the legs.
>>
>>5351898
I just don't like how all muscular and Ultraman-like the OO and Quanta are.
>>
>>5351898

i love a lot of the 00 designs but

1: quanta was in the worst 00 ever movie (awakening of a trailblazer)

2 there were a lot of better designs like XN raiser, raziel & sefer that never got mass released kits. (dengeki hobby)

More than anything i want a reissue of the avalanche exia in 1/100

Seems to be the same size as all of their other robots, but no real specifics are given. I've never dealt with Koto, just specifically Gunpla, B-Daman, and Beyblades for whatever the fuck those are worth, so I'm hoping this just doesn't kill me.

So as someone who has just built their first HG gunpla, how prepared am I for a Master Grade?
>>
>>5352829
Good luck, there is still no announcement on a new run of Gourai. You missed the boat on it and are stuck with scalper prices unless Koto decides to make more, which could be never.

Your best bet with FAGs is to preorder them before they're out.
>>
>>5352956
Prepared before even building the HG. It's the exact same process, just more parts.
>>
>>5352958
Architect sold out so quick, it makes me wonder if they'll reopen orders again before release.
>>
>>5352963
I hope so, I wasn't fast enough and now all that's left is the super overpriced ones on amazon (I have no trust in Gundam planet not to oversell preorders).

Here's hoping, otherwise I'm going to have to move quick on release to grab one off ebay or similar before the price doubles while all the scalpers are selling them off.
>>
>>5352230
Good luck, I'm going to bash together a GM III and a Jesta for my group build entry. Thinking more of an Armada Galvatron theme.
>>
I'm mostly new to all of this so I don't know much about vendors. I looked up Architect and KotoUS looks like it's still taking preorders. From what I can tell it's the US center for the company, how come no one is suggesting it?
>>
>>5352869
Very fucked. You'll need glue and paint to make anything look half decent.

You don't want to be like the useless, lazy snaofags, do you?
>>
>>5353077
They sort of screwed people over on Amazon with Gourai. They were working through amazon (so you essentially got free shipping on it since it was over $35). Amazon did the preorders, then drastically oversold the preorders, and then when they got more stock in they opened it as a new listing (Same price, vendor (kotous), and everything) rather than filling the still open remaining preorders.

I wouldn't be surprised if they've oversold preorders again either.
>>
Alright, quick question for you all:

Is a 1/144 Barbatos kit too complex for a 10 year old?
>>
>>5353092
Ah, yeah that seems pretty scummy.
>>
>>5353095
Do you trust him with using sharp tools?

And be aware that its a model and if he plays with it like a regular toy it will break.

That said, the other day there were two kids who looked all of 6 and 11 looking at the gunpla at the local hobbyshop. The younger kept calling them transformers and kept looking at "bumblebee" (Star winning). The older one told him they looked different because they were the Japanese versions. Then both bought an HG.

So knock yourself out, the worst that happens is he breaks it.
>>
>>5353092
I was one of the people who got shafted on an Amazon Gourai preorder and I'm still mad. When I bitched at them they gave me a $10 refund on a completely different order and told me everything is fine and canceled my order.

Progress on the ztea plus

gone over 90% of the inner frame in German Grey, colour is really nice I think but its a couple shades lighter than the plastic which shouldn't really matter.

The blue parts turned out a little darker than I had hoped but it shouldn't be a problem really. Going to topcoat them this afternoon, has anyone used Tamiya XF-86 with an airbrush before? I was going to thin (do you need to thin it) it using lacquer thinner just for a stronger topcoat, hopefully it won't eat the paint I just spent half the morning airbrushing.

There is a gouge in the stabilizer next to the poly cap, yes I know. Its covered by the part that goes over it in assembly.

Wing binders turned out nicer than I thought they would. Still need to do the masking for them, One turned out a little darker probably applied the paint a bit too thick but the flat coat should sort out the majority of the problems. May need to strip and reapply the dark one. Thoughts?

Unfortunately I can't start painting the pink parts due to the hobby store being closed for the holidays

Hey guys, I really really want to build a Tallgeese I kit, but I don't have a ton of money to shell out, would the "Gundam Wing 06 1/144 OZ-00MS Tallgeese Plastic Model Kit" on Amazon be an okay one to get?

Also not hard to build.

Even the 1/144 HG tallgeese is "hg" in name only. It's the older NG thrown into a new box with an extra runner or two of converstion parts for the III while remaining ng quality. It didn't even get the newer polycap/joint layout the other ew kits benefited from.

Just built the 1/100 Graze.

I know it goes without saying, but it's definitely no MG. Fewer accessories obviously and some rather ugly stickers. Some parts don't fit together quite so perfectly or so snugly as they do on MGs and it's a noticeably softer plastic. The loose fit has its upside though, in that it will be easy to take apart to paint. If you're not going to paint it though, there are a lot of parts I would recommend gluing.

It looks great though and it's a super easy build. You just build the entire inner frame in one go and then slot the armour on top. Once the frame is built, the only parts that need to come off again are the hands to put the cuff armour on. Once I've painted it I'll probably buy a second one.

Can I thin either Vallejo or Citadel with water? My nearest store has these only. I'm planning to drybrush and panel wash, and it's my first time. It feels like a huge undertaking.
>>
>>5357757
You can thin them with water, but not for a wash with just water. You need some sort of flow-aid to thin water based acrylics for that.
>>
>>5357762
erm… like ighter fluid? But it damages bare plastic, right?
>>
>>5357757
You can, but for what you want to do it's not the best idea. You really need something to break the surface tension. You can use art store flow aid or a little tiny bit of dish washing liquid to help.

That said, if you want to do panel lines you're better off making an oil wash which just needs some oil paint you can get at any art store and some white spirit which you can get from the art store or a hardware store as well.
>>
>>5357768
>ighter fluid
lighter fluid, damn fingers. I suppose I can use gundam markers for the time being.

>>5357769
White spirit melts plastic though, is that correct? What about flow aid? Works with acrylics but doesn't damage naked model?
>>
>>5357768
>>5357772
No. Lighter fluid won't thin acrylics. I mean a flow-aid. You can find them at art stores with the acrylic paints. If you add a couple of drops to your paint along with the thinner it breaks up the surface tension and lets it flow better.
>>
>>5357785

I'm relatively new to Gunpla, but I'm pretty obsessed with most of the UC anime (especially Zeta Gundam and Unicorn). I'm in the wargame modelling and painting scene, so I have an airbrush and some relative skill but know that painting Gunpla is different to tabletop minis.

Do you guys reckon citadel Retributor Armour is a good colour for priming a Hyakushiki? It's a lovely colour. And where do I go from there? Not too sure about shading metallics.

Currently working on a Zaku as a beginning project, but waiting for some IC pins for mini thrusters and tamiya supplies before I can get painting.

I just picked up RG Exia and RG Destiny off Amazon. Is there anything in particular I should expect in the building process?
>>

I have $50 worth of Amazon credit and I want to buy some plamo figures. What's a fun kit that isn't Gundam. I already got several gunpla for Christmas already so I kinda want something else to mix things up.

HMM Zoids kits are pretty cool if you can find them for reasonable prices
>>
>>5358146
Good recommendation on the Armored Core kits. I actually think I'm gonna pick up on of the D-Style kits to try out.

>>5358166
I was looking at those. The prices on Amazon are a little steep though.

I really like the Frame Arms Girls, but those seem relatively hard to find for a decent price. Any similar kits that I could find for cheap? Also, I remember someone posted a picture of a "Neko Mecha" figure that looked really cute. Anyone know the exact name of the kit? I just remember that it was a robot cat and about the size of a BB Senshi.
>>
>>5358171
They're Frame Arms, I don't the AC kits are under like $70.

I looked around after seeing the picture that was posted above, and it looked like they were sold out everywhere except Amazon where they were being flipped for $100+. I did find pic related available for preorder, but it's such a plain kit in comparison to the others.

>Polycap socket in the shoulder

When did kits start doing this? Feels like it's everywhere now
>>
>>5358257
Forever? If not a ball joint then an o-ring hinge

There's definitely been a change though, now the standard seems to be that the ball is inserted into the torso, instead of the polycap being attached to a pin from the torso
>>
question for ya faggots, where's the best place to get star wars bandai kits now that Revell through a hissy fit and got them pulled from export?
>>
>>5358299
>>5358257
>>5358280

The real question is if that is better than the old peg method.
>>
>>5358330
It's better when the polycap is mounted vertically like on the HGUC F91 or the Revive RX-78-2. It's about the same as the peg from the torso when it's inserted horizontally like on every other kit.

What are the names of the 3rd party pg unicorn led lights ?
>>
>>5358356
I call them "Ted", "Stan" and "William" but I have known them for a while so you may need to address them properly.
>>
>>5358330
Slightly greater articulation, so yes. The ball joint polycap has a hook so there's a hinge joint inside of the front of the chest, meaning the arm can pull out forward while also revolving on a ball joint. It's closer to what the human shoulder can actually do.
>>
>>5358299
>>5358257
They started doing it at some point during the 00 hg if I remember right.

Ok anon, time for a quick lecture.
There are polar and non-polar solvents, each goes with its own molecule type.
Polar solvents are water and alcohols, polar paints are acrylics and lacquers (plus stuff like water colours but that's of no concern to us in modelling)
Non-polar solvents are oils, such as lighter fluid, mineral spirits, tourpentine etc. Non-polar paints are enamels and oil paints. I've actually heard that the preferred paint in military modelling for washes and filters is oil paint because it flows really well.
>>
>>5357779
>White spirit melts plastic though
No, but it makes it brittle.
I oil washed my Build Burning and suddenly a part of the arm fell off.
Always gloss coat before washing.

Amazon is good
>>
>>5358307
It's not Revell, can we get this misconception out the way for good?
It's dragon models that raised a stink because of their new star wars line.

Both legs and waist wired now, still running test patterns, but with a button to switch between colours.

>finally got my Stylet in the mail
>comes with cute little water decals to make her panties striped
>adorableasshit.jpg
>decals are just a little too big for the actual parts
>whatever, I can trim it before I apply the sealer
>they don't go on very smooth, have to work to get everything nice and even and bubble-free
>decals dry, pick up the part to inspect it
>decals immediately crumble and flake off

Well... fuck. I have literally never had that happen to me before. I guess I could just draw lines on her panties with a paint pen.
>>
>>5360453
I'd try to mask beforehand as well, if that isn't obvious already.

>ah I'll just freehand this shit
>well that looks terrible now
every time, I never learn.
>>
>>5360453
Did you gloss coat before hand, or just lay them down on bare plastic? If bare plastic, did you at least wash the part first?
