What about a more grim-dark version, like starting with Khorne Red or Mephiston Red darkened by Nuln Oil?

Mhat about something metallic, like bronze or gold? The master-crafted boltguns in Chaos Gate were gold.

Johnny is actually reloading - you can see the fresh bolts in his magazine just waiting to deliver The Emperor's wrath upon some worthless heretic. I imagine he's tapping it against the side of his helmet to make sure the bolts all settle into place before slapping it into his bolt gun.

Of course, if his magazine should happen to whisper some of The Emperor's wisdom while he is holding it that close to his ear ...

So, /wipg/, I need your advice.

I've been in the process of compiling some AWI Redcoats for use as a chaos-aligned Border Prince army since around the time of the End Times, and AoS actually makes the old gunline even more hilariously cheesy. And while I know precisely what I want to do for my handgunners, my outriders/pistoliers (16th and 17th Light Dragoons on Chaos Marauder horses), my artillery, and even my Demigryphs (British legion cavalry mounted on Chaos Knight steed), I have found myself eternally indecisive on what to use for Greatswords if I choose to and Guard which I'm basically forced to bring along.

With the Guard, I really need something that has shields, but I was just trying to think of something that would look nice beside Redcoats and not too far out of place. I'd considered getting Marauder shields and trying to kitbash in a bunch of sword arms. I'd even considering looking at some Skraelings and other pre-Contact styled Indians with shields and tomahawks/clubs. And I have definitely considered using Warlord's Woodland Indian Tribes as Guard armed with Militia weapons. I'm just looking for a little bit of guidance and recommendations.

tl;dr: Sword and shield models and heavily-armored greatweapon models that would fit in with an army of Revolutionary War Redcoats.

Good splatter job on the tracks but where is it on the main body?
Guns shoot and are pristinely silver/grey? I think not. Put black-to-bronze on those barrel ends.
Front lens is silver/grey? Make that shit red, blue, or green!
Aquila on the sides not painted? Call the commissar!
Show us a cock-center shot of your front, you git.

Repostin' because nobody really did answer my last question about what color I should probably use for the other spaces (use Warplock Bronze for the metal). First timer here who has no idea about anything.

Maybe just re-do the whole thing and start with my initial plan (steel + khaki)?
>>
>>55404376
I've never liked the Krieg paint scheme; it's so unbearably bland.

But that being said, it's not bad. You need to do the lenses, the aquilas, and probably find some way to dull those gun barrels, but besides that, not bad.
>>
>>55404451
>Roundheads with Pikes
I actually hadn't thought about that, but I do like the idea. I want to say Bicorne has some pretty decent armored Roundhead pikemen. I guess I'm just left hanging uncertainly since I'd ideally like greatswords for the Greatswords though halberds might end up working just as well, and I'd really like the Guard to have shields. Definitely thanks for the ideas.

Looks p. good for a start. Have you fucked around with oil washes? All you really need for weathering is an umber + black and some thinner, which you could get easily for less than $15, probably around $10. I'm assuming you already have gloss varnish. A good oil wash would do wonders for the guns and metal, and a pin-wash in the recesses is easy and gives great results. Think about what the mud on the side is like. Is it wet? Is it dry? How long has it been stuck to the hull? An even application all around is not the best look for verisimilitude. Would also say you overdid it on the tracks.

Thoughts on my Carcharadon Astra assault terminators?

I wanted to do a sort of custom splinter group of the chapter which combined the constant crusading and absolute loyalty of the chapter. Therefore, I tried to do a rust effect on all of the metal areas for the termies and tactical's. I think I perhaps overdid it on the silver but overall I think it turned out well.

I still think there's some improvements to be made but I'm overall very happy with how they turned out. It was my first attempts at edge highlighting and I really like how it looks once it's done.

Finally decided on plume color's, myself - white with red stripe for sergeants, white with black stripe for lieutenants, and red and black stripes for captains. Should be fun, if time consuming.

I'm going to the store to get some paints for painting miniatures similar to pic related (using some conversion parts)
I intend for the fatigues to be white or off-white, and the armor to be silver or iron. Should I base with Leadbelcher, Ceramite White, or Mechanicus Standard spray?
>>

I bet that grey colour would work to your advantage. I prefer to use a white undercoat, but most of my models approach bright Second Edition red. You're going to be off-white and gunmetal, so you don't need to try to brighten your colours by using a white undercoat.

The general plan is to use Khaki Grey, Khaki, Japan Uniform and English Uniform for the leathers and Cam Olive for the uniform. Coat d'arms Linen for the leg wraps washed twice to bring it way down from being too bright and German Camo brown for the gloves and boots.

Two things I see right away that would help you are (stronger?) highlights and givin' yer lad a proper base.

The black coat could be highlighted with some dark grey. The gold parts, as crazy as this sounds, can be highlighted at the extreme edges with with silver - Runefang Steel in the current Citadel line. This picture uses the older names for the paint colours, but shows that technique in more detail.

A lazy base would just be some flock or texture paint. It'd be more exciting to glue some sand on there, paint it, and do up a more proper rough surface - maybe adding static grass or grass clumps as a final touch - but then you risk getting whatever colour you use for that on your model's feet. It would not be without reward, I think.

My advice is to just stick to the instructions given with the kit, and to watch Warhammer TV's video guide on building and painting! Duncan gives some very useful information for the building stage.

In particular, building and painting in sub-assemblies! Pic related, this is my current Knight project, my very first one too! If it's the largest model you've made so far, it can be intimidating. But just keep at it, and you'll work your way through soon enough. I believe in you, Anon!

Some anon, looking at this picture, guessed that it must've been around 3,000 points by Second Edition roolz. Since I actually *have* the books, I added it all up and it come out to be over 8,000 points. If it's purely a question of what armor mk you like better, a second opinion may not really help.
GW lists all the special weapons and heavy weapons choices in the boxes, though I think. So if it's a practical consideration check that out, because even the HH boxes have different loadouts.

>Hot damn, those are some lovely miniatures.

The newer Warzone miniatures apply 21st-Century aesthetics to a game that's nearly as old as (and tried to compete with) 40K. The older metal models, which you can still buy from Prince August, aren't quite as attractive, but they still have their charm. Plus, some of them fit quite well into the Mutant Chronicles Siege of the Citadel boardgame - one of the best boardgames I've ever played.

I actually used a Would probably stick to the British Light Dragoons from Perry's Napoleonic plastics line. I'd love to use the Heavy Dragoons for Greatswords and I still might. Wonder how much of a trouble it'd be to get those bastards in to wield something two-handed.

Dunno about hacking spare bodies apart to get the legs off 'em, but I reckon I'll find some compatible bitz.

>>
>>55413632

I bought 3M white poster adhesive and it was harder and less sticky. I used it for a good long time but when I decided it had collected too much spray paint and random debris and lost its stickiness, I bought the original Bostik Blu Tack. It is much stickier, softer, and holds its stickiness longer. The softness can be annoying though as it makes silly putty/melted cheese strings.

You should be okay with any brand that is actually blue, those seem to be the softer and stickier types. It all costs around the same anyway.

Well for me the airbrush would just be an accessory. Setting up the basecoat and colour transitions before the paintbrush shading and edge highlighting. It's definitely not a replacement for the meticulous paintbrush highlighting and shading, it just adds another technique to take advantage of.

I really love next level painting paint style, pic related. The airbrush and paintbrush used in combination is better than the sum of its parts. More options. Pic related.

Beginner question, but when shading with a wash is there a notable difference between applying the wash all over the model and going back over all the raised bits with the base colour, and just painting the wash into the recesses?

Would the latter produce a brighter result, or is there not really any difference to it?

If you're using a wash on a bright colour and/or a colour that has poor coverage (i.e. red) then the neater you are to begin with, the much much less work you have to do later to clean it up.

I just found a very old pot of GW Black Ink. Is this the old name for nuln oil?

It still looks like it is usable just needs to be watered down a bit. Do old as fuck washes go bad?

Does anyone have any idea what colours to use to get similar looking armour to these guys (guard)? Looks like a very pale dusty green.

Happened to me once early this year. First ever pot of Agrax (still had Devlan Mud), spilled on the same day. Had an old school metal syringe you assemble with fine needles, used that to suck up majority of it, but still lost a few mms of liquid.

That said my workdesk looks top-notch now.
>>
>>55418336
Hell naw. I have the old Black Ink too, it's amazing but it's not a glaze or a wash. It's legit runny ink. It's strong as fuck and will cover -anything- (I mix it with some lahmian and Vallejo silver, the brightest metal they have) to get a dark Lambo metallic black.

Use with caution.

Just cover everything that looks a bit wonky with greenstuff flames and call it a day.

In regards to Quickshade... Well, firstly does it really work as well as it looks like it does? Prime, basecoat, quickshade, done. Not necessarily talking about heroes here, but large chunks of infantry. Secondly, for miniatures that are white and red, would Strong tone be good or would it dull the white too much? Looking at their advertisement for it, they recommend Soft for whites and Strong for reds.

Thank you. Tried it on some bits and it was covering very strong. I thought it was just because the paint evaporated through the years.

I second this. I was not gonna say anything at first but honestly its pretty bad man. I bet once its cleaned it would look great.

How big of a difference does the base coat spray make?

I'm finding myself in a situation where it is going to be a while before I can get more Chaos black spray to basecoat my models. This is kinda putting a hamper on my projects. The closest store to me doesn't have it in stock until next Friday. Now, they do have the other sprays, including Mechanicus Grey. My models are primarily grey (I do Eshin to Dawn Stone to Administratum.) Will using Mechanicus Grey seriously affect how my models work compared to using Chaos Black?

Privateer Press has some of the best sprays I've used.
The nozzle is designed so the paint comes out as a sheet, rather than a mist. This gives you much more control over where the paint goes, which in turn saves a lot of paint.
>>
>>55418412
anyone?
>>
>>55419458
Maybe try grey basecoat and very thinned down olive green ?
>>
>>55419395
This. Privateer Press black primer is the best I've used, bar none. Worth the price, IMO. Goes on thin, covers well, and is decently priced. There are cheaper options, but I think it's worth the extra dosh.
>>
>>55419171
Will you be using Mechanicus standard as primer?

A guy just said that coloured GW sprays aren't primers when I asked.

looks nice anon, how do you find plasma in renegades? i run only flamers and have to say they seem fucking awesome. Having 2 or sometimes 3 flamers in a blob overwatching on anyone is amazing. I killed 4/5 deathwatch marines in a squad charging at a blob of mine in a game a fortnight or so ago. Flamers auto hitting on overwatch is awesome when you can have multiple flamers in every blob.
>>
>>55416919

damn man that looks good! i imagine with some sand or crackle paint on the base itll look awesome. Make sure you wrap a little layer of basing material around the points of the tail that looks like the dirt being displaced by the tail. I look forward to seeing what it looks like with more work done on it :)
