Tieflings aren't half-demons (that would be cambions/alu-fiends), more like 1/4th demons or less. I kinda altered it in my setting. Women give birth to Tieflings when they make a bargain with a Devil, and decide to have their firstborn be a Tiefling instead of selling their soul. This works fine for the Devil, since the discrimination and suffering the Tiefling and their family experience tend to drive them towards committing sin anyway, and drives families and communities apart. Thus the Devil gets whole groups of sinners rather than just one soul.

From what I remember;

Orcs from the dark and hellish continent across the sea had invaded and were genocideing everything.

With nowhere left to go humans, elves and dorfs sailed to where they had come from. Due to the shitness of the land and the natural advantages of Aasimar and Tiflings they lasted slightly better than baseline humans this added to the fact that Aasimar and Tiefling tended to spawn more of their kind in a union with a human quickly resulted in a sharp decline in pure humans.

Orcs Zimbabwe the old homelands because they're fucking awful.

A few centuries later and there are no humans born except odd throwbacks that sometimes occur when aasimar and tiflings have kids.

Elves are having similar problems in that there are fewer high, wood or dark elves born anymore but lots of mongrels and half of them are half-human. Or at least half-aasiamr/tiefling. The longer lifespan is allowing them to retain "pure" breeding populations for longer.

Dwarves, halflings and gnomes are more of a cultural thing now than any physical difference. They were different enough that they couldn't interbreed with the humans and elves but could with each other. As a general rule if it's farming it's a halfling, if it's underground it's a dorf.

The orcs on their new land that they were ruining were having a similar problem in that the taking of human women as sex slaves was only resulting in half-orcs. Half-orcs breeding with regular orcs resulted in more half-orcs. There was a genetic purity movement among the orc shamans trying to stop these degenerate unions.

Meanwhile not!mordor is being gradually turned green and pleasant by geoscaping and intensive land alterations. The dorfs were damming every river at every opportunity to make lakes for fish and irrigation. The elves were planting tree seeds along every new lake and river. Humans were fucking around on the shores to make shellfish farms.

There might be more somewhere but I can't find it. All I have is what I remember.

Most of it went into the adopted roles of the various races based on aptitudes and the making of an artificial continent sized Eden.

Also the stereotypes that came about in the days of settlement.

Aasimar were typically hard working to the point of workaholics. Typical firm but fair parental figures but were somewhat no fun allowed. Big believers in law and order.

Aasimar women were best mothers in that they, at least in a the days of settlement, wanted big families and generally had the patience of a mountain.

Tiefling men were mavericks and firebrands, made good if eccentric soldiers but poor sheriffs. Also equalled the dorfs in terms of metal working ability due to heat resistance.

Tiefling women much like Aasimar women had large families but that's mostly because they were promiscuous. They tended to be more free with sex but also encouraged their partners to be as well so it sort of evened out.

Dorfs were better at stone working and teamwork. They would plan and enact massive projects of landscape alterations to diver rivers and carve channels through mountains and turn wastelands green.

Wood Elves (or at least cultural half-wood elves) would plant fruit trees alongside the newly diverted rivers to hold the banks together and in a few years provide food.

Halflings (surface dorfs) were learned in the mysteries of soil and cultivation.

Together they all got along with only surface abrasions and repelled repeated orcish raids and holy wars.
