>Meanwhile on Demon Hunter /tg/
Hey, any of you guys got any tips on dealing with a Behemoth? Got a contract from a local landlord to try and get rid of one of the damned things, and I've got nothing.
>>
>>55306980

Have you tried salting the earth?
>>
>>55307217
Yes. I've also tried firing sanctified bullets at it, but both attempts seemed to piss it off more than anything.
>>
>>55307336

Whatever the landlord is paying you it's gotta be enough to hire like 4 other hunters. You've got to overwhelm it entirely in one encounter or else it'll keep getting more pissed off until takes out a city block or something. Not to be trifled with.

Oh he had. In fact, he hired a team of five initially, hoping that they'd be able to deal with the thing.
They all died horribly
>>
Tried any banishment rituals or magical seals to keep it trapped in a particular building?
>>
>>55306980

Chainsaw to the head.
>>
>>55307748
>Tried any banishment rituals or magical seals to keep it trapped in a particular building?
Got it trapped for about a minute using some pre-prepped holy ground, but I could barely chip through the things "hide". Honestly, I don't know how or why most hunters would want to deal with one of these things.
>>
These things pay big, maybe the classic rope around the legs and maybe put a harpoon through the eye or something? Gonna have to get creative here.

Behemoth!Anon here. Alright, so I've got the thing in a cage of runes and wards I set up just a bit earlier, but I have no means of destroying it at the moment. Got any ideas guys?
>>
Maybe a extremely toxic posion coated on a spear, and put it shaft deep in the eye or ear.
>>
>>55308156
That might work. Anyway, since the thing is (mostly) bound, I think I can take a small break here. Tell me about how you hunts are going my fellow Anons.
>>
>>55308204
Fucking awful, I was contracted to put down a undead infestation, So I brought the standard tools of holy symbols, tools to dismember, flamethrowers, the works. But they conveniently left out the fact that it had a fucking Lich raising the dead, I didn't bring the proper tools to kill the damn thing.

Had a client who worked with land development fly me out to Japan after finding some sort of creature in a cave. Asked me to investigate and kill it if it was dangerous, turns out the thing was a damn Oni. Got my pay in advance and recommended wearing onions and setting up some monkey statues.

I hate it when we get all the way out for a job just for it to be a lost cause. On the upside, if there aee any brothers in Okinawa, I have drinking money now.
>>
>>55308367
>But they conveniently left out the fact that it had a fucking Lich raising the dead, I didn't bring the proper tools to kill the damn thing.
This is the reason why, when you present your contract, make sure that your employer tells you absolutely *everything* about what you are going to face. Too many hunters that I've known have died due to a lack of understanding on what they are facing.
>>
>>55308440
From what I've heard, Oni are *ridiculously* strong physically, but because of their lack of general intelligence, it is usually rather east to douse their lairs with holy fire, and watch them burn to death. Preferably whilst they're asleep.

I know but he had a good rep in the our community.
Since I got time to kill waiting for my tools to be sent here, where do you all get yours?
I usually get mine by 'greasing the wheel' with various wizards, shinto/christian/hindu/jewish priests with rare materials from hunts (I include in my contract the rights to all monster parts)
That fucking lich is dead once my tools are here.

Behemoth!Anon here again. Gonna try the poisoned spear/knife in the eye thing to kill the bastard. Any recommendations for poisons?
>>
I usually acquisition a few things from old friends in the clergy, a few buddies from back when I was a more conventional soldier. I have made a few friends in the Shinto temples around here, but I'm usually not as well equipped as I could be.

Anyone else get forced to get a little creative sometimes?
>>
>>55309070
I'd say a classic cover-all bases poison, Nightshade, Cyanide, Maybe throw in a little hemlock and arsenic. If you have the connections in the farming realm, maybe some Henbane.
>>
>>55309046
>Since I got time to kill waiting for my tools to be sent here, where do you all get yours?
I get most of my stuff from the Church, and I occasionally get some stuff from friends amongst the Shinto, and Wizard communities. In fact, before I took on the Behemoth job, I was actually trying to find a way to destroy pic related here, after a (very, very dead) friend, 'kindly' dumped it on me.

Whats going on here?
>>
>>55309105
Lich anon here, I have picked up a few tricks over the years from wizarding associates, mainly just little tricks to make life easier but to get to the point I had to deal with a baby hydra, since it was a baby I accepted the contract cause fuck killing a adult hydra with its insane regeneration.
But I did not have anything that would stop its lesser but still painful regeneration and I did not want to risk getting close, So I lured the thing into a abandoned building with scraps from local butchers, I detonated the supports in its structure and let the thing get crushed under the weight of a building, Still had to deal with a bunch of bullshit like making sure its blood didn't poison the local water supply and such.
>>
>>55309222
Alright, how the *fuck* did a dragon get on here? I thought you fuckers were too busy screeching over your piles of gold, and how you are "Sooooooo much better than mortal creatures", to even bother coming on here.
>>
>>55309286
I forget to say what I meant on the tricks, basically the area I was in was rather wary on technology, didn't want to upset the local spirits and such so I had to use some alchemy made explosives and set them off with a small spark spell I learnt,
>>
>>55309312
Well EXCUSE me for inspecting the land that i've watched over for over a thousand years.
>>
>>55309312
Lets ask it, it could be a eastern dragon trolling or it could be a legit western dragon, hell it could be even one of the weirder types out there like the ones from south ameirca.
>>
>>55306980
My grandad sorted one of them out back in the day.
To hear him tell the story, you just have to put some dynamite in a waterproof sack, put the sack in a bucket of holy water, light the thing, and hope you can throw it without spilling too mych
>>
>>55309354
Judging from his post here (>>55309346), seems to be a more Eastern Guardian type, rather than a "burn and pillage" type.
>>
>>55308204
Horrendously. I'm specialising in Undead abominations, and my only clients want me to deal with wretched hellspawn clumsily summoned by shady cults in the basements of the city. My main issue isn't even the wierd demons, it's the summoners themselves. Those guys are a pain, and every single one of them is alive when I kill them. Horrendous, I tell you.
>>
Can any anons help me out here?
My town is too poor to deal with some Barrow Wraiths from the nearby ruins.
Me and some of the other men are going to have to deal with it ourselves and have no idea what we're doing.

Can anyone give me some help here? I'd pay a hunter if I could but I'm late on taxes as it is and I'll be too poor to survive the winter if I do.
>>
>>55309636
Just be as holy as you can. The local priest will probably refuse to go with you, but have him enchant all your equipment and the like. Don't go there unprepared.
Any idea on how those things got here ?
>>
>>55309636
>Can anyone give me some help here?
If you can get any of the residue that the Wraiths usually leave around, you could likely make "oil" from it that *should* make the Wraiths vulnerable to normal weaponry.
>>
>>55309671
The tombs were raided and desecrated a few months back, that might have something to do with it.

Honestly though, I'm not sure. We haven't had much reason to visit and no one has been buried there for a hundred years from what I've heard.
>>
>>55309750
Where are you from?
India? middle east? somewhere poor like that?
We need to know the location so we know what type of holy symbols and such will work on them.
You dont use a shinto symbol against a golem now do you?

>>
Anyone else getting sick of working with universities?
I am so sick of frat boys trying to summon succibi. Every time I spend hours getting an accurate description for "that tentacle thing" out of hangover idiots and there is always one guy drunk still that messes with my equipment.
And don't even get me started on that time they actually managed to summon a succubus.
>>
>>55309830
Well from the glimpses of the things I've caught so far they're nothing too special. They're covered from bottom to top in grey robes though, reminds me of some kind of priest's robes. One of my farmhands mentioned that underneath their hoods they've got some kind of strange metal face, like a bronze death mask he said.

>>55309817
I'm in Bulgaria, there's been no work in my town for years though. I make do on my farm but it's only enough to survive from. I've got no clue about Shinto or golems so that sounds like a dead end.

Well, it's Behemoth!Anon here, and well.....I did it. Stabbed it in the eye with a spear I coated in a mixture of Nightshade, Cyanide, and a bit of my own blood, with maybe a few poisonous mushrooms for luck. It is now screaming and writhing against my wards, whilst a sickly green haze flows off it, and the landscape is warping around me. I think I am going to get the hell out of dodge.
>>

Did you mistake a high level nature spirit for a behemoth? thats the only reason I can think of.

Death masks?
What is the history of the religions in your area? is there a jewsih presents or it is predominantly chistian?
>>
>>55310106
Mainly Orthodox Christian around here. There's a few Muslims but no Jews here as far as I can tell. Mainly Christian all the way through history though. Unless we're counting the Turks pushing North but that didn't change my area's religion.
>>

Just finished a job where I was contracted to deal with a succubus. Problem was, there wasn't just one succubus like I was led to believe. There were six.
Keeping in mind that I was paid in advance by the priest of a rather small village, should I demand more?
>>
>>55312961
>Keeping in mind that I was paid in advance by the priest of a rather small village, should I demand more?
Nah. Succubi reproduce like fucking crazy. I'm honeslty not surprised he didn't tell you about the number of them, he likely -didnt- know exactly how many there were. Best other try and do a clean swipe though. Letting even one of those things get away can cause a whole load of trouble of you in the future.
>>
What are your go to weapons?

Personally I keep on me at all times my trusty silvered halbered and a pistol loaded with silvered hollowpoints.

Something I've also found rather effective is mixing sticky sap with flammable oils, and adfing in a little extra something depending on what's needed at the time (cold iron shavings, silver powder, salt, ammonia, garlic extract, ect).

The few summoners I've met really weren't competent enough to give me any insight, but apparently there's a lot of blood-related rituals going on, and I might have seen traces of Hellfire in one of the caves (but we have a shady wizard with us... Depends on the area in question. If it's a sight where holy power is known to permeate, it's usually very strong, and holds up well against Demonic assault. In places like say Stonehenge however, or places where mass-sacrifices or other dark shit has been performed, it is usually much, -much- weaker, allowing all manner of terrors to spill through into our world.
>>

The thing with fae is how unpredictable and whimsical they are. If you're doubting they're here, there has to be at least a chance they're not far and plotting some unwanted shenanigans.
At least get some cold iron before checking what it might be. Have you any description of the sounds ?

A bit more than a decade ago I was just like you - I wanted to be one of the hunters (for my own reasons) and pondered what should I do.
You can find the right Hunter School as >>55332880 said, or find and expert hunter willing to take an apprentice, but the deal is to FIND REAL MASTERS, goddammit! >>55335374 This guy knows his shit, IT'S NOT A GAME.
The perfect situation is when you can learn from retired Great Hunters with 40+ years of expertise that are out of the market because of old age. Do you know how hard is to reach that age in this job? A cripple with similar experience is fine, too, they have a lot of knowledge to share. But if you consider the job seriously, you have to be sure that they are really the Grand Masters, as the most of old hunters are half-assed cowards that never seen anything worse than a couple of lesser fayes or imp-level demons.
Don't underestimate the theoretical knowledge. It is what keeps you alive at the end of a day most of times. Consider going to one of the eminent Hunter Schools, like my Alma Mater - The Grand Academia of Transylvania. Seven years of theory and exercises to prepare you both physically and mentally.
Then you can find an expertised Hunter to start the practice with an ease. Even then you should stay humble - without respect for our enemies some get killed because of their own pride. Many of us have fallen because of that, even the best ones.
If you can't go to a school you should consider to seek for a soon-to-be-retired Master with his assistant. There is a nice tradition some of us still cultivate - a few years before retirement the duo is looking for an apprentice - when the Master is too old or dies, the assistant soon becomes the Master and YOU become the assistant. Easy like that!
I'm the assistant for 5 years now, and I was lucky to find such a master, he's wise, strong and as cunning as he can only be. Sometimes I wish he wouldn't punish in such a way when I screw up, otherwise he's perfect!
>>
>>55336365

Like every minstrel wants to become a bardstar, grow up. Sure, I heard about the one guy that learned his methods from a noble Lammasu, but how many such cases do you know? You know that newbies don't know how to recognise a good and the bad dragon, and a powerful demon could lure a poor bastard by making an illusion of a celestial creature with an ease. Even the guy from my story had to be able to tell a difference between Lammasu and murderous Sphinx, and all that is the knowledge of the Hunters. You would be better to go to a shitty Hunter School than count on the sheer luck. You clearly have a little to no knowledge to write such a dummy things that are more like legends than reality.

Consultant exorcist here. In my experience, any crypto-critter bigger than a housecat is a hell of a lot easier to banish than it is to kill. Hit your local occult library and grab a book on banishments (a book on abjurations might help as well with the prep work). I'm not really sure about the rules governing hunters and magic- can you even use it? Still, once you've got the theory most of the incantations are pretty basic, and hopefully those jerks will be back in Hades before you can say 'chupacabra'. Or at least before I can say it. Even so, the difference between a "standard" Elder Thing, and an Archfiend would be difficult for a rookie Hunter to notice, so it's easier to give them all a general label. And from what I've personally seen, -all- Elder Things seem to show respect or even downright reverence towards the beings most commonly called the Seven Deadly Sins, showing that even -they- know when something is beyond them.
>>
>>55343172
Okay, don't tell anyone you heard this from me. This is some real deep secret shit.

In his younger years, my master had a 14 hour conversation with half-mad Sumerian mummy about the occult and the eldritch. According to my master, when discussing the topic of the intersection of the eldritch and the demonic, the mummy revealed that the "reverence" Elder Things show to the Sins isn't real reverence. In truth, it's closer to a Fae pact believed to have been made long ago between Hell itself and Azathoth (through his herald Nyarlathotep). The exact terms of the deal are obviously unknown, although the mummy theorized that the deal protects the souls of Elder Things from damnation should they perish on the mortal plane, provided they respect the princeps of Hell.
>>
>>55342983
From a scholarly perspective, the two differ quite significantly. Archfiends are dangerous, but they're basically just big demons, and are thus susceptible to all the things that a regular demon is (albeit in larger quantities). A so-called 'Elder Thing' basically refers to a creature that does not obey Guildenstern's Laws of Abjuration, i.e. its individual weaknesses and vulnerabilities cannot be tabulated based on its physical characteristics.

Honestly, I don't know whether this really has much impact in the field, it just startles me how many hunters there are these days who don't know their theory.
>>

Guildenstern's Laws are, for all intents and purposes, flawless; it's our imperfect perception of the Elder Things that is the issue. Proper wards and bindings for Elder Things can be created based on their COMPLETE physical characteristics, but you can't rely only on their 3-dimensional forms.

>Some of the things I've seen an 'average' Archdemon do put Big C and Nyarly to shame
A cynical hunter once told me it is because demons serve the will of God, and God is evil masquerading as good. It's complete nonsense from a man who lost more than any man should, but there are some days when I see what even an imp can do, and I cant' get his words out of my head.

Normally I'd complain about this, but honestly this pretty hilarious. And it may have just saved me from having a Servitor sent to steal me away when I sleep.

According to what a friend of mine well versed in the subject of Demonology has said, this is false. Demons are primarily "expressions" or "facets" of the force we know as the 'Adversary', who exists as the opposite of God. the Adversary births Demons so that they may disrupt the world's natural order and annihilate Creation, at least, that's what he said. He even pondered that the Adversary may be potentially -greater- than God in fact.

Ah, Giacomo's Universal Theory of Adversity. I'm rather fond of the theory, even though it's regarded as a little archaic by the main body of modern demonology (who has been largely secular since the 19th century). Frankly, I don't much care either way. As I see it, there's just as many greedy bastards on our plane as there are in Hades.

My friend had some very.......'unpleasant' things to say about modern day Demonology. Specifically that they are arrogant and downright idiotic to think that Demonic forces can be explained by 'normal' means, and honestly? I'm rather inclined to agree with him. Especially after having to suffer the presence of one of those so-called "Demonologists" for a whole week.

That's just what the demons want you to think. Trying to make it seem hopeless so your crosses and Mjoinir amulets won't work. Keep the faith(s), brother.

Giacomo was a tool. But yes, in general, the Afterlife is just as statistically filled with assholes as the living world. Treat the dead with caution... and salt.

Elder Things tend to not care about whether or not any particular place or person goes insane or goes to hell; they're more concerned with their clusterfucked cosmological battles.

Archfiends Definitively care care about whether or not any particular place or person goes insane or goes to hell while still being concerned with their clusterfucked cosmological battles.

Listen, I'm not some diehard demon geek. I'm an exorcist, a practical magician. Obviously I don't think anything about this is 'normal'. Your friend just sounds a little zealous is all.

If you ask me, demonologists are all the same: a bunch of nerds who aren't smart or tough enough to actually try and stop the bad guys, so they just sit on the sidelines and give out handy tips like "stab him in the nadgers" every few minutes.

Thanks for the advice Anon. I shall try to take it to heart.

I think that is a rather naive viewpoint on the matter. In fact, I would go so far as to say that it's the kind of viewpoint that will get you killed.

There are too many demons who are too smart and too insidious to be dealt by the normal way; demons who have disguises so good, you wouldn't even think about throwing holy water on them until its fangs are in your neck. Knowledge is the only weapon that can truly protect your from these horrors, and even the most trivial speck of lore can save one's life.

Plus, those demonologists make some bitching magic crossbows. Seriously, I have one that can launch a stake accurately at 100 yards; I can't even begin to tell you how much ichor that thing has tasted.

This I know well. I just wishad that I didn't have to deal with stuck-up asshats who favor themselves "wise" on the nature of Demons, and then get themselves eaten because they arrogantly think they know everything about the Demonic. I mean sure, they may have some good tidbits from time to time, but most of the time they just spout off misinformation that can end up getting you killed.
Also, that crossbow sound fucking awesome

Storytime. About 2 years ago, when I had first gotten this crossbow, I had taken a job to hunt an honest to god Transylvanian vampire. So anyway, I ask around, do some digging, and find that the vamp's taken up residence in an abandoned tower in the local woods. Unluckily for me, there was so much fucking rain that season, I couldn't rely on the sun to hunt this thing.
Times like this I usually like to call in backup, but I was out in the middle of bumfuck nowhere; backup ain't coming quick enough. So, I gird my loins and I decide "fuck it, I'll take the risk." Turns out I was afraid for nothing.
Anyway, I trek through these muddy woods all sneaky like, and what do I see when I get to the tower? The fucking vampire on the roof of the tower, looking down on me with a smug grin. This fucking prettyboy pompf goes on about how he was waiting for me and how this will be a duel for the ages yada yada yada.
So as he's monologuing about his blood-clan's honor and shit, I load up my stake-thrower, aim for his heart (or there abouts), and fire. Honestly, I just wanted to scare the poof, and get him to shut up. Never in my wildest years would I imagine that the crossbow would not only be accurate at that distance, but still have enough power to stake his heart and keep going out the other end.
It was fucking hilarious. His corpse fell with the most surprise look, even as it turned to dust. I'm never gonna forget that look, I just regret I didn't snap a photo to share.

What do you guys think of all of these new hunters with other "areas of expertise"? Like, exorcist-hunters are a classic but nowadays you see Alchemist-hunters, demonologist-hunter and last mission I even teamed up with an African shaman-hunter. So, do you approve, or do you believe that they should let the work for the real specialists?

I was here on a job to kill some kitsune, and suddenly this giant snake starts flattening the city. Gonna look like a 3rd bomb was dropped soon enough. I'm gonna dip from this neck of the woods, this is far beyond my skill level. I hope the local hunters can do something.
>>
>>55347119
Transylvanian vampires are the WORST. At least with most other vampires, you can take solace in knowing that they only really care for eating your face, but with Transfer Vamps you have to deal with all of their pompous bullshit, and their long, dreary monloguing.

We always need new ways of killing monsters.
>>
>>55348140
Personally, those people with specific areas of knowledge that HELP to kill all these monsters, should probably retire from hunting and stick to whatever their other profession is.

Do you know how hard it is to get high-grade supplies? I've been home-brewing my own arcane bleach out of holy water, salt and jelly for the past few years now.

What I wouldn't give for a proper alchemist around these parts.
