What if the internet was a setting?
Websites will be like places, dungeons will be shady sites and loot will be warez.
What do you guys add?

So I guess 4chan is hell

The Empire is slowly encroaching upon all the land, conquering it and imposing their draconian laws wherever their domain extends. Their propaganda corps is effective enough to turn their conquered populace fully against the few remaining bastions of freedom in the land, to the extent that any rebel cannot count at all on shelter in enemy territory.
>>55265608
4chan was one of the more-recently conquered provinces.

So are we talking something of a fantasy world based on the internet? Or literally a campaign of a bunch of people on their computers?
If the first, and websites are like nations, there's the weirdness that they really only compete with websites that perform a similar function, which can be difficult to translate to political terms.
>>55265991
Google will be a wicked villain since they paint such a friendly face for themselves.
>>55265996
Yes, a fantasy world based off the internet.
I don't imagine websites as nations but as buildings or places like hills or caves.

>websites as buildings or places like hills or caves
So 4chan would be that underground complex where people in robes and masks go and meet each other, except one room has people trying to conjure a frog god, another has people sharing porn drawn on papyrus or stone tablets, and just about everywhere people are getting mad at each other?
>>55266265
Yeah, is a perfect description of what I had in mind
Shadowrun/2020 decking.
>>55266265
And showing your face or saying your name is seen as blasphemous, except for a hanful of people who earned the right to do it.
Morning bump
>>55265606
a setting that will be outdated and cringe inducing by the end of next year, this is on the same level of putting lolmemes in a campaign
What would all the porn be?
>>55268904
Every streaming content is a literal stream or sea.
The Tube ocean, the Hub River, the Motherless lake.

>If The Internet Wins The Nobel: A Proposed Acceptance Speech
>By Robert Brockway
>Without pornography, I would still be a clunky, text-based interface obscured from mainstream adoption by the dense foliage of unfamiliar technology. We all know that pornography is the spur for mass acceptance. It has decided every media war: It killed beta and ushered in VHS. It murdered HD-DVD; it pimped out the digital camera--it has always been the decider, and the personal computer owes a great debt to it.
OP, I honestly believe the setting's map would combine pic related and this:

>special thanks to 4chan, for basically being a giant asshole corral, containing and concentrating all the negative impulses of humanity in one easy-to-avoid site.

Floating islands in formation?

If you are into chinese cartoons, there is a film called Summer Wars that could give some inspiration, but it's more scifi than fantasy
>>55273096
It's also basically a better remake of the second Digimon movie, so I guess you could just watch Digimon if you want a more-fantastical version of "what if the internet was a metaphysical space that could manifest in the real world with monsters and magical cards".
>>55265606
Sounds a lot like the MMBN series.
>>55274087
but BN never had specific websites as places, networks were always kind of generic.
