Hello Lads,
Looking to get into MTG. Used to play with a couple of starter decks with a friend of mine when i was about 10.
Where do i start? Whats the difference between all the different versions (modern, standard etc). I want a green / black theme, should i just buy a starter deck of each?
Thanks

Just go to some LGS where you don't want to play regularly and pick deck at random, Tyrone.

Do all MTG players have a condescending attitude?

No, just the red deck players.

Elaborate please.

Difference in formats is just which cards are allowed in your deck.
>Standard
only "new" stuff, cards in your deck will become stale within 2 years and no longer be playable so the deck churn rate is pretty high
> Modern
only stuff printed since mid2000s
arguably attracts the worst players in magic in terms of personality
> Legacy
more expensive than Modern, almost all cards are allowed with some exceptions for broken bullshit
> Vintage
everything goes including the strongest cards ever made but
you will never find people playing this so it doesn't matter
>EDH
anything goes but you can only use one copy of each card in your deck, everybody has minimum 100 cards, intended to be played with groups of 3+ people for fun
> Pauper
No rares allowed, meme format, mostly aggro decks
> Frontier
meme format that is limp-wristed attempt at "new modern", can only use cards since 2015ish. this is what happens when standard players realize all their cards are now worthless.
autists can feel free to elaborate on this, keep in mind none of this matters if you have friends who want to play with any cards from anytime, but if you show up to a card shop people will have made specific decks for specific formats

Thanks m8

it's not a minimum
it's only 100 including your comander
