He's a Storm deck. You should only be putting him out when you're about to storm off with a double High Tide or Paradox engine play. Otherwise 100% of the time you'll get hit with a Blasphemous Act and lose your board.

>>
>>55227165
Artifact lands aren't broken in EDH. They're banned in formats where Affinity is a thing because at 4 of and with Ravager/Cranial Plating support all but guaranteed in your first two turns they're degenerate, but they only give Breya a little boost and she doesn't need them. Also

When I first started magic, I was 11. Apocalypse had just come out (I started with a 7th edition starter kit or whatever it was called). I spent my weekly allowance on a booster pack. I got a Pernicious Deed.

My reaction was "what the fuck is this shit, it destroys my own stuff". I traded it in for another pack. I got another Pernicious Deed. I traded it in for another pack. I got another Pernicious Deed. Luckily that stupid store owner was trading me packs for this worthless card, so I got 4 packs that day.

I don't blame the store owner, I thought I was taking advantage of him, and I was a little shit.

Oh. Then just play him. You play him as monoblack control, except you get access to all the other good removal in your opponent's decks. Roll the dice enough and you steal their combo pieces in a way that they can never get them back.

Be as disruptive as possible.

How do you guys feel about people conceding mid game? Friend 1 was upset at Friend 2 for conceding before I could finish him off. His thought process being that had Friend 2 stayed for a few more turns, he could have gotten the upper hand before I could turn my attention to him.

>>55230618
Friend 1 should have provided an incentive for 2 to stay in the game then.

>I go last
>first player goes "scorching desert, target anon, pass"
>I'm absolutely stunned
>I go down to 39 life before it's even my turn
>he doesn't even apologize
I haven't even had one turn, so it was impossible for me to interact with the trigger. If he let me just play one island I could have stifled the trigger and still been at 40 life. Instead he targets me out of pure spite. We all talked about it and it was pretty clear that he only wanted me to be at 39 life so that I wouldn't win. He was going all on about how he is perfectly allowed to scorch me, but he didn't even think for a second about how I felt about it. It would have been infinitely preferable if he gave me just one turn to get up stifle mana or find a way to gain some life. Instead he tries to act like just because the game lets him do something that its ok and my feelings don't matter. We all agreed that targeting me was unnecessarily spiteful considering he had another land in hand he could play, or he could have mulliganed to a hand that had less hateful cards. We all agreed to just play as if I was at 40.

What I don't get is how people like him think its a good idea to play like that with regular playgroups. You know that by hitting me with scorching desert, it's just going to make me bring out my five color stonerain.dek and completely remove his ability to play next game. Since then we have houseruled that you're not allowed to hurt others players if they don't have a way to interact with it. Our players that have some social awareness and aren't completely autistic have all agreed with this rule and it has done a great job of weeding out the players that have offensive personality traits, such as having skin any thicker than plastic food wrap.

I posted this in a thread a few days ago, but I need suggestions for a janky Ramos/Cascade deck I'm working on.

Got shit like Maelstrom Nexus, Wanderer and Archangel, Conflux, Progenitus, Yidris and a few other cards. And I got Deadeye Navigator and Eldrazi Displacer so I can blink Ramos so he can keep using his ability. Not looking to win games but cause big things to happen out of seemingly nowhere.

I wasn't trying to say that. I was trying to convey that if Friend 1 can't supply a good enough incentive for Friend 2 to stay in the game then maybe he should think about how he played his cards this past game and reflect where he could've played better. Sorry if that got lost in translation.
>>
>>55230981
Try Charms.dec maybe. Those seem like a real good way to rack up Ramos counters and get shit done.

Take out Cradle, Natural Order and Craterhoof Behemoth, Umezawa's Jitte, Planeswalkers and Sensei's Divining Top and you still have a great deck for $80-$100 depending on the edition and condition of the cards.
http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/13-12-16-ezuri/
I built this list for $95 or something because I got most of it in the Freyalise pre-release for $35.

I just don't quite feel comfortable paying so much for a single card. I don't have many people to play against, and only play 2-3 times a month, anyways. It'd be nice (I like monocolor decks), but it's a bit pricey.
>>
>>55234130
no worries, one cool thing about this format is that even hyper-tuned mana bases (especially in monoColor) aren't exceedingly more powerful than just average budget options.
>>
>>55234153
That's good to know. Also, I'll be moving state in about a year or two, and the LGSes near where my wife and I are moving might actually have friendly players and a community that accepts newcomers (although I doubt that; given that out of 12 LGSes I've been too, all of the Magic communities have been the same).

I recomend you get all the Elves and instant/sorceries first since it'll be playable at that point. Then if you really like the deck get the lands, then the artifacts, then the planeswalkers, then the enchantments. Then if you're in love get Natural Order, Craterhoof Behemoth, Staff of Domination, Wordly Tutor and Exploration.
Then if you win the lotto and/or don't give a shit about spending next-gen console money on a piece of cardboard, get Gaea's Cradle.
>>
>>55234177
Alright. I'll look at my LGS this week.
>>
>>55234087
not him but those are all pretty good. ranked in best to worst order i'd do it like this

>thousand-year elixir
most of your elves have activated abilities and getting to use them right after you draw them can be invaluable

>nykthos
can potentially give you a shiton of mana at the very low cost of one land. note that there are elves and other effects that can untap it

>sylvan library
card draw is just really important but there are other ways of drawing cards. I wouldnt say its essential but its still really really good if you have it.

>song of the dryads
green has trouble removing creatures and this is one of its ways for dealing with them. usually your elves will be bigger than most creatures when it matters though.

>door of destinies
can get out of hand quickly with all of your elves costing so little. Ezuri has an overrun effect on it and you have a bunch of elf lords so it might be winmore. plus might draw hate if you dont kill everyone on the spot with it.
>>
>>55227144
Don't let Kessfags get you down, Dralnu is superior for making an actually interesting storm deck rather than just goodstuff.grixis.
The B/U storm/control shell also allows for alternatives to just Tendrils to death, such as the various Lab man wins available.
>>
>>55234213
So out of those pricier cards, TYE is top priority, and Nykthos is amazing, but everything else has cheaper alternatives?
>>
>>55234130
dont look at it like paying $6 for a single card. look at it more like paying $100 for a deck that you will always have to play with. those cards are really good but if you dont get them then its ok.
>>
>>55234231

How is dralnu more interesting? Because he has a "you lose the game" drawback? Because he's yet another thing that combos with paradox engine?

Dralnu is gay as fuck and has shit design. Fuck him for stealing Phyrexian negator's thing
>>
>>55234234
Pretty much yes.
>>
>>55234234

I think sylvan library is more important than either of those actually
>>
>>55226098
Worst mistake I've made in a game
>player has a card that forces everyone to sac a creature during upkeep
>another player has a card that bounces cards to my hand unless I pay 1
>I draw into a card I just bought and my inner Timmy is unleashed
>tap myself out to play it
>with two creatures on the board
If I didn't cock that up I could have taken out another player before he got his combo off. Such is life when you're a timmy in denial

Do I build him?
>>
>>55234241
Even still, why would I pay $100 for a deck I'll rarely get to use, when I could pay $50 for that deck and save that other $50 towards some other game I play more?
>>
>>55234234
I wouldnt say Sylvan Library has really an alternative. its a pretty unique effect for green. but for $15 and all the other card draw that green has I wouldnt say is really essential. Beast Within is the best green removal spell but other than that green doesnt have a way to deal with creatures other than through combat, hence you want redundancy with song of the dryads (plus I think there are a couple of elves that give everything forestwalk) but as I said, you really can avoid interaction and just stomp whoever if giving you trouble with their creatures with one big attack. Door of Destinies is a good anthem affect but your commander already has one and your elves make a bunch of mana so its not really necessary imo.
>>
>>55234321
because winning is fun
>>
>>55234130
Nykthos is a very good card. Paying some money for cards that are powerful and functional is good, because they're not likely to lose much in the way of value over time and there will be a reasonable demand for them. If you ever really need the money, you shouldn't have too much trouble cashing out and with some cards you may even make some amount of profit if they've risen over time. Nykthos is a fairly special card, meaning it's not likely for it to be reprinted often.

You don't have to go wild, but don't be afraid to sink a little money into cards when appropriate.
>>
>>55234350
Won't most players see that as being a tryhard netdecker asshole, though? Using a "competitive" card?
>>
>>55234359
Almost everyone has "competitive" cards to some extent. People would have to be almost literally playing Craw Wurm for there not to be something comparable in their decks.
>>
>>55234359
I think a $100 ezuri deck is very far away from the definition of a tryhard asshole in the mtg community. I mean, there are people who play $4k stax decks
>>
>>55234359
Non-neurotic playgroups would say that about stuff like Mana Crypt, Force of Will, Jace the Mind Sculptor, Liliana of the Veil and other $50+ cards. Not Nykthos.
>>
>>55234359
Take a look at the price of Gaea's Cradle.
That's what a tryhard competitive card looks like.
>>
>>55234385
The people at the LGS called me a tryhard netdecker and implicitly told me to quit playing for running Capsize, High Tide, and Peregrine Drake in my Mizzix deck, even though one of them had Chains of Mephistopheles. Another LGS called me an asshole for running Rite of Replication at all. Have I just had bad experiences with LGSes, or am I missing something?
>>
>>55234411
Nah, you were just playing with assholes.
>>
>>55234318
only if you slide to the left
>>
>>55234411
You pointed it out yourself there. There's not any real definition to what a "tryhard" card is so some people will call fucking anything "tryhard" if they're salty enough, regardless of how hypocritical it might be.

At that point, it isn't worth worrying about what kind of cards those people would get upset about.
>>
>>55234411
im sorry anon but I think youve had terrible luck.
>>
>>55234411
At certain point you gotta tell people to stop being bitches.
Capsize is like 50 cents.
>>
>>55234411
what deck were you running with rite of replication? was it an instawin combo? it might be more the type of strategy that your playing rather than the cards. I know mizzix is fucking degenerate because I built it
>>
>>55234417
>>55234439
>>55234435
That makes me feel a little better - but only a little. Aside from a couple friends of mine, I don't have anyone else to play Magic with, and the LGS in question is the least cancerous one in terms of Magic community for a long ways out.

>>55234466
Even if I did, I'd be the minority there - the community is very cliquish, and even the store owner is in on it.
>>
>>55234485
I ran it as tech in Mizzix. The few creatures I ran had ETB effects, and there are quite a few situations where I can close out a game with it by cloning an opponent's card. A friend of mine runs RG Omnath and Dragon Tribal, I've RoR'd both Omnath and Scourge of Valkas for huge damage.
>>
>>55234330

Green actually has a fair amount of playable fight cards, notably prey upon is pretty underrated

Not great for elves though
>>
>>55234525
yeah I think its probably more the fact that you could do that with two blue mana rather than the card itself. not saying its your fault though
>>
>>55234572
I remember a couple of the decks people there ran:
>Gonti goodstuff
>Szadek mill
>Mayael, guy called himself an "ultra-Timmy"
>>
>>55234557
>a fair amount

I'm only really seeing Ulvenwald Tracker and maybe Prey Upon.

Ezuri's Predation is more of a sweeper than a "fight" card, but I guess it could count too.

Nice. I play a few people with some blightsteels every now and then and it can sometimes be a pain to deal with.

I think it depends on the deck and the playgroup powerlevel, because that card is both weak and needs a lot of card support to be worth spending a turn doing nothing but casting it.
