What will your character buy in the level 2-5 gap? There are no good weapon upgrades at those levels (or are there?)

How does your character rationalize his/her/it's inability to use a more powerful weapon due to level restrictions?

As a DM how do you rationalize companies producing upgraded weapons despite 99.9% of the galaxy being literally unable to utilize them?

You have to find them or have someone build you one or the right parts to build one.

You find a rare crystal that can be refined and added to your laser gun but you don't have the tools and skills to do it just yet so you study and research before you go fucking up this invaluable tool that can give you a stronger gun.

They can use higher tier weapons fine. The question is whether Vesk grunt #1 will have a 500,000 dollar rifle on his body when a 2000 dollar one will do the job and his boss can split the rest between missiles and bribes.

An elite mercenary company of retired special forces or the automated turrets in a drow corporate HQ OTOH - those sorts will have the nicest, most min-maxed weapons they can afford.

Realised I posted the old version in the last thread: This version has a few new alternate racial traits, a new race (Half giants) and patches up a few elven bits.

Summer Triaxians are completely bald, the Winter Triaxians are covered in fur! Very gorgeous, soft, canonically silky fur.

I think the Lashunta Technomancer iconic has a Traxian boyfriend? That said, even after reading over some of the races they just don't catch me as interesting enough to use. I actually find the Ysokai more interesting besides humans or half-orcs.

Can there be elf-kitsunes?

Cuz I think that would add something to the setting.

You know, this gives me an idea.

A giant space-ship is renovated to act as a battle grounds of sorts. several teams go in and are stuck in locked rooms until the ship enters the drift at which point the doors open.

The ship will only come out of the drift when one team has managed to capture the other three team's home bases. killing is optional. special weapons are hidden around the ship.
>>

A personal upgrade, a null-space chamber, maybe a biotech version of the wide-spectrum ocular implants, clothes and naughty wyvern 'toy'.
>>
>>55177929
Yeah, she's got a Winter Triaxian boyfriend with fluffy fur. Really cute stuff, and extremely surprising that Paizo actually wrote a woman with a continued heterosexual relationship (especially Lashunta.)
>>
>>55177831
TENGU. I desperately fucking need Tengus for my game.

I'm running a custom setting called "The Disc of Kal-Vortun", and in it Tengus are a pretty big race. Essentially bird-poland, with these big ancient orders of hussar cavalry. It's like my most developed part of the setting.

But I'm now running a starfinder game set in the same setting, but 800,000 years in the past.

And the Tengus are still around, as a repressed slave race looking to rise up and form their own idealized nation.

Earlier (>>55169296), I was asking for advice on how to create an optimal "good at starship fighting" build for four 2nd-level PCs' tier 2 starship. I had previously created a ship that abused a turret and kiting, but now, I am starting to think that the following build may be more ideal:

Budget of 75 BP:
• 12 BP: Base Frame: Explorer
• 10 BP: Power Core: Pulse Gray, PCU budget 100
• 5 BP: Thrusters: M10 Thrusters, PCU consumption 70
• 6 BP: Armor: Mk 2 armor
• 0 BP: Computer: Basic computer
• 5 BP: Crew Quarters: Luxurious
• 4 BP: Defensive Countermeasures: Mk 3 defenses, PCU consumption 2
• 6 BP: Drift Engine: Signal Basic
• 6 BP: Sensors: Budget long-range
• 6 BP: Light turret mount upgraded to heavy turret mount
• 12 BP: Heavy antimatter missile launcher, PCU consumption 15
• 3 BP: Shields: Light Shields 20, PCU consumption 10

This ship is effectively a glass cannon. The idea is to rush in to a distance of 8 hexes of the enemy ship, fire the heavy antimatter missile launcher, and hope for a hit for a whopping 10d10 (average 55) damage.

This ship's defenses are not quite as good as the tier 2 shuttle from earlier, but good grief, is its offense far higher. If it cannot end the starship battle in a total of five shots, then it was going to lose anyway.

Plus, I have managed to squeeze in luxurious crew quarters for six people in this ship.

How does this tier 2 starship build stack up against the earlier build?

I'd slow it down a little, dump the crew quarters to good, and use the freed PCU (you need 3bp, maybe dump the sensors to medium range basics) to feed a particle cannon. Since it's a glass cannon, staying further rather than risking some plasma cannons and rippers (because - and this is rare - it's actually badly shielded enough for rippers to be a threat to it) from round 1. That in and of itself becomes a bit of a defense, as most fighters won't hold a candle to it at long range.

A particle beam would cost 15 BP; that is well outside of the budget.

I believe the only ripper weapon currently available is the chain cannon, which none of the premade ships have.
>>
>>55178745
>>55178905
>>55179327

For that matter, is there any reason at all to bother with starship weapons other than turrets? The freedom to fire where one pleases is immense.

It seems much more cost-effective to concentrate on turret weapons (ideally linked weapons), especially given how the gunner actions work.
>>
>>55179363

Mostly I think it's 'Once you've run out of room in the turret'. Or you've somehow got a ship that capital weapons can be mounted on (Though the book doesn't seem to want you to have that)
>>
Thinking of joining a friends Starfinder game, someone give me a quick overview of the classes power level wise.
>>
>>55179414

The Soldier is the king of combat BUT it's also very focused. Basically no non-combat stuff at all.

The Solarian has serious trouble, with a lot of MAD issues and it's crowd control side being very weak. If you want a melee brawler it works though (Stick with Photon, not Graviton)

The Operative is a skill monkey without compare AND does offence nearly as well as the Soldier. A little more fragile but also a lot more in can do.

The Mystic and Technomancer are your classic spellcasters. The Mystic does a hell of a mind control game, the Technomancer has a lot of tricks.

The Envoy is a skill monkey like the Operative but without it's combat mastery. It's built around support but it's action economy and resolve costs means that it flags a bit there.

The Mechanic has a bit of non-combat and a bit of combat (Either with a minion or with the Exocortex buffing BAB). Generally, the Drone is a lot better (Especially early game where a second dude VASTLY outdoes +1 BAB)
>>
>>55179407
That's how my players did it. Twinning the heaviest weapons they could gave their small ship near-Capital damage.
>>
>>55179484
So if I wanna be decent at combat and other things, Operative is the way to go?
>>
>>55179407
Point defense. Or very tight budget constraints in a ship that can reliably win initiative, but mostly point defense. Stick a laser in every quadrant when you can afford it, stick your main guns on the turret.

Oh, and of course, maybe your DM doesn't read ships without pre-provided turret mounts as being able to have them added. That's a pretty strong reason for not using the turret, if your frame doesn't have one.
>>
>>55179563

Very much so. Operative gets a scaling bonus to Literally Every Skill and has the most skills/class skills in the game.

Get used to using Pistols though, as Pistols are basically The weapon for Operatives (They can only use their combat stuff with operative weapons and pistols and pistols are a lot more useful generally)

>>55179407
Turrets have limitations on the largest ships (no capital weapons) and are more expensive to equip by a handful of points at low levels.

A perfect-maneuverability ship can face any way, so for fire-at-will you want to link on a turret and link something in one of the four arcs, giving you your two weapons.

Also, uh, the R-13 is kind of a bad-end choice... Remember what the Cross-the-Rubicon ran into later on?

I was genuinely mad reading it, completely fucking hamfisted bullshit that doesn't belong in the game at all. I don't have to worry about my players pulling this bullshit, but I'd kick them from the game if they tried.

>Shit even the tinfoil hats of "no white males"

The game has plenty of white males.

As faceless goons you're meant to gleefully gun down.

95% of all the humanoid enemies shown as "enemies" in the books are white men. Compare this to the fact only two out of maybe 50 images of humans are white men. Also one of the white men in Dead Suns is the leader of "Strong Absalom," a nationalist organization to "make Absalom great again" and "kick out the aliens from our neighborhoods."
>>
>>55180121
That was in Pathfinder.

They removed it for Star, and now they just have two different subtypes that they become one of during puberty. And can take chemicals to choose which they want.
>>
>>55180121
>Other than my friend told me the race has significant sexual dimorphism as referenced in it's stats

They got rid of that and made the consensual decision to become short-n-squat or tall-n-slender an allegory for Hormone Replacement Therapy, as said by Crystal Frasier who was VERY excited to "fix" the race.
>>
>>55180133
>95% of all the humanoid enemies shown as "enemies" in the books are white men.

95%? It was 100%. Someone went through the books a bit ago and found out every single human "enemy" in the art was a white male.

Not gunna lie, but that's also degenerate as fuck. That's still having an entire race of trannies,

This needs to stop, WE NEED TO GO BACK. I just want to have fun with my friends and go on weekend dungeon crawls. Not have this kind of bullshit shoved down my throat, nobody fucking wanted any of this. Nobody wants to have a fucking mental illness be the sole focus of their entire existence.

You call this trolling? It's a deep seated anger against a fucking form of insanity that has taken over this country, twisting the minds of people into horrifying parodies of what should be good and wholesome. Instead now people are taught that it's okay to be mentally ill, and should have their dicks chopped off in the pursuit of "gender identity". When all this does is throw off a ticking time bomb of hormones and brain juices that leads down a dark path to further mental illness, and eventual suicide.

And these people want to shove it down everyone else's throats. To make it seem completely normal and acceptable TO MY CHILDREN, AND TO MY FRIENDS AND MY FAMILY. Just so that they can feel good about themselves pretending to publicly be "righteous and good", when its all a form of dark psychopathy and Machiavellianism.

I too want cute plant people, but not if they're genderfluid degenerate trannies, who reject cultural traditions and societal norms just for a political purpose that should fucking stay out of the game they live in.

>>
>>55180365

Yes but plants don't have gender like humans do. A perfect plant has both stamens and carpels, it's unusual plants that have lost one of the two. Hollies are an unusual plant, for example, because they DO have 'Either male or female parts' and some plants chance which sort they are during their life cycle, starting non-sexual, going male and then later female.

If you want plant people, you better expect weird gender stuff.
>>
>>55180379
I don't know what you're smoking, but the Core Audience for tabletop traditional gaming is 30 - 50 year old males, who make up the bulk of spending. There's exactly one trannie in the entirety of my gaming area(somewhere in the ballpark of 500 people), and he's an autistic fuck that nobody likes.

Considering how tiny the transgender population actually is, such a large portion of them coming out "odd" kind of suggests many of them are engaged in this sort of stuff, otherwise we're arguing about a literal cabal of transgender icons manipulating the SocJus movement.

Okay guys, I need to replace an NPC's hand (and lower arm) with a gun. Now I could just do this in fluff and just have him never ever drop the gun and be immune to disarms, but I was wondering if there was anything that would allow this to be within the rules.

In cybernetics you have a standard prosthetic limb which does nothing, a prosthetic limb with storage, and one with HIDDEN storage. The last two of those could store a gun, but don't seem to BE a gun. There is the polyhand prosthetic, which gives you an amorphous blob of adamatine that can replicate a tool of 8th level or less, so if you consider weapons tools you could theoretically turn your hand into a snub shotgun or the like (though you would have to bring your own ammo, since your polyhand can't provide fuel or power).

Are there any better options that I haven't seen?
>>
LGS is going to be starting SFS next week. Anything I should look forward to or plan for?
I still don't have a character made.
>>
What type of character Ideas do you have?
>>
>>55181092
Not really, no. That's basically it, mechanically, because SF recognizes that you can stick guns in people, but doesn't model that you can make them actually be part of the person yet. You can have the arm pop the gun into your hand, even stabilize it a little, but you can't have the gun actually be your hand.

The closest you could get would be really heavily refluffing the Energy Ray cantrip, but that's basically the worst option.
>>
>>55181328

You'd think that because they have weapon mounts for drones, they'd think to add weapon mounts to people. Hell, one would think one of the drone mods you can use for exocortex would include weapon mounts so you can turn yourself into the Borg. I mean, you can add EXTRA ARMS to yourself but you can't mount a gun on your arm? Seems like a bit of an oversight, given how integrated weapons are a staple of cyborg action.

I rationalize it in the same way arms races always work. The cheapest weapons are the obsolete/outdated ones.
The US spends half a trillion dollars on the military, and they aren't even a planetary government. In the far future where infrastructure is done by robots, medicare is unnecessary, and you can slap trade tariffs on whole planetary populations, that military budget easily handles the extra couple of (hundred) thousand credits per man.

But most books use "her" by default if they don't want to get into the grammatically dubious "they" as a gender neutral third person singular. Good enough for Shakespeare you ridiculous grammar nazis. It makes business sense, which is the only reason large companies do anything. There are more people who would be willing to give a book a try because it tries to be welcoming than there are people insecure or bigoted enough to dismiss the book because of it.

I don't get the uproar, there's just small tidbits of lore that has to do with Gender, and none of it is like "There are 100000 genders and I am a demi-fat-boi", all it does is talk about how some androids are agender and that triaxian culture has a caste of supersoldiers that are agender, which actually has a precedent in real life, where some cultures have social roles which are considered neither men nor women, such as males that perform womanly duties in some african culures.

Everyone I've spoken to IRL about Starfinder laser-focused on that aspect of the Androids, either showing interest in making a non-binary character or an outright transgender one - male soul in a female frame, that sort of stuff.

Gender identity is an enormous aspect of the Android, I'd go so far as to say it's their hallmark.

>Gender identity is an enormous aspect of the Android, I'd go so far as to say it's their hallmark.
You know, up to now I've been thinking that argument was just the meaningless screeching of right wing internet trolls, but it occurs to me that if you wanted to write about being asexual and nonbinary in a sci-fi setting, a created organic race rather than a conventionally born/hatched race is the way you'd do it. That almost makes the fact that they're called "Androids" but they're not overtly mechanical on any fluff-explored level make sense.

Warforged don't sleep or get tired, and that's part of their race fluff, with them taking 24h jobs but needing a hobby to allow them to refresh their still-needing-rest minds. Androids don't breathe... but that doesn't really change their day to day lives. The created race aspect is only fluffed out by the gender stuff.

Odd that it has a classic gender-binary duo to illustrate the race though. That doesn't fit with the theory. They should have a David Bowie looking motherfucker standing between them, thrusting suggestively.

And characterizing the Good male deities as stubbornly staying with Golarion to protect it wherever it went is thoroughly male. The evil deities are better mixed because they would have bailed to avoid the suspected trap.

The result is unfortunate, but lore and RW consistent. Not having the archtypical sun god available in a sky full of stars, or the community god to keep far flung groups together, would not have been my first choice.

If you're still waiting for an answer, that depends on your group's optimization level. You can hit 18/16 in your primary and secondary if it matches up with the race, or either 16/16 or 18/14 if only one does. you can only get 18/12 or 16/14 if neither does. Also consider that at levels 5-9 and 15-19, starting with an 18 is no different from starting with 16.

If you're in a group that's optimizing for every single +1 it can get, the racial bonuses become more important, but they're not as critical otherwise. If you're in a group that's not as concerned about optimization you could even get away with focusing on your off-stat (Vesk Mechanic, for instance), but it's going to hurt. If you're careful, you can at least ease the sting by carefully matching your actual bonuses to your secondary or tertiary stat, at least.

>>55180225
You don't have to swallow their shit. The cool thing about an RPG is you can run it how YOU want to, to hell with the developers.
And it's very fun to subvert their bullshit too. My Starfinder character is an Android Hellknight. He hates the degeneracy of his species and sees their moral weakness as a new form of slavery. So I took perhaps the most SJW race and made a /pol/-tier character, while still staying within the race's theme.
I won't make the developers suddenly give up on being SJWs, but it will let you enjoy the game while feeling that you're also flipping them off.
>>
>>55188856
Or if they did conform to gender, why would it be our genders? Modern gender roles and traditional gender roles aren't the only conceivable gender roles, even when you look at humans or other species with male and female sexes.

I feel like we miss part of the dialogue when we use "gender" as a way for extremely prudish people to talk about the biological sexes. Regardless, the Androids are clearly built to conform to traditional human appearance, sex included. They don't really work as sex-neutral. As for gender whatever, who knows what the traditional gender roles are in futurespace. Maybe women do the fighting and men are the emotional ones? Do we care? Do we just use modern standards because the important thing is the story about the exploding star, not the underpants politics of the people preventing that from happening?
>>
>>55189311
I think the problem is not the fact that there are aliens with alien biology- that would be fine if the intent was to underscore how alien they were. I think the problem comes from the fact that the 'fans' of the game on the forums are gushing how they can finally have a character based on their cockroach-kin spirit.
>>
>>55189310
Personally, I just make staunchly white heterosexual male characters and play them better than the rainbow snowflakes, thus interesting the DM in my character more and suggesting to the others that being a whacky atypical does not a good character make.

Anyone else hate the caster classes? They feel far to samey and their themes are weak. Mystic should have been a Psionic class and thier ability should have been mental and illusion based. Technomancer should have been more like 40k necron crypteks with a mad scientist bent. Right now they share too many spells and are too much like pathfinder casters only space themed.

>>55180225
Just flavor it as a coming of age thing. It was worse before, when it was explicitly tied to sex - and people could make it about gender. Now it it more of am alien self-determining physiological thing, and being binary can actually help disentangle it from gender. Ain't a big thing unless you specifically make it out to be one.

Yes, no games ever have had a culture talk about purity or preserving is old, militant ways in the face of modernist decadence or intermingling with foreign cultures.. Wait, those have been there forever, too.

Gender-whatever alience or the like exist. They are just there, and some people get triggered at them just being, even if it is just eye-candy to sell the game to someone else. If I wanted to make a game about how Eox, the Elves or whoever is about ditching the unwanted ballast to preserve the survival and thriving of the worthy in the face of decadence, I perfectly well can.

>If I wanted to make a game about how Eox, the Elves or whoever is about ditching the unwanted ballast to preserve the survival and thriving of the worthy in the face of decadence, I perfectly well can.

>>
>>55193191
I don't, and I actively fucking discourage it in my own game. I outright ban people from my games for Degeneracy.

It's pretty fucking simple, Androids are created one particular way. Either they're created as a male, a female, or more like just some neuter form. No futzing about with degeneracy when you don't have a dick because the corporation that made you decided those were pointless to have on a Military-grade android. On the other hand tits make for a nice distraction, the corp-science boys claim that putting a nice rack and a pretty face on the combat androids makes people less likely to want to shoot them.
>>
>>55193383

It is perfectly in line with the setting, just me as a DM choosing to explore the reasons for creation and the implications of one particular aspect of it.

In canon, the eoxian elite embraced undeath and spread it to the masses to survive the cataclysm. In the same canon, the elves saw the happenings as a betrayal from an unknown hand, became massively paranoid and quite xenophobic and are sure they were betrayed from within No parallels with interwar Germany there, oh no sir.

>Are maneuvers really this shit still?
Yes, they could create some feat or class that specialize on them later, but until then they're shit. Almost makes me miss CMB/CMD.

>I have heard bad things about starship combat...
Starship combat really needs help right now. DCs are impossible at later levels and most role actions scale badly at later levels because of their static bonuses. For example, a +2 bonus from the Captain is pretty sad when you're up against a 40 DC, and a Pilot's Evasion Maneuver only ever adds a +2 to Ship AC

Starship combat can also be slow and tiresome. I've had to double all starship damage to make it faster for my group.

>HP seems crazy high across the board, is combat even slower or what?
Everybody getting Weapon Spec at 3 helps with this, but yeah combat is slow especially if your heavy hitters starts rolling low damage dice. More damage dice and less flat bonuses means damage rolls are fairly spiky.
>>
>>55189680
Starship combat is a wreck because the DCs to do anything more than basic movement and shooting scale faster than your skill bonuses. This at least has been acknowledged and will likely be changed at some point in the future, so that's progress!

Though chunks of the starship creation chapter could use rewriting too. I'm less optimistic about that happening.

I don't have a feel for how combat pacing will go overall, but keep in mind that while HP is up, so is base weapon damage. If you're using advanced melee weapons or longarms/heavy weapons for ranged, it's not uncommon to be throwing around 10+ dice that are d8s or larger once you get to the highest levels. And as mentioned, everyone gets weapon specialization. In Starfinder, WS adds your level to damage - or half your level, if it's a pistol or an Operative (dex) melee weapon.

If you're talking about "trannies" as the tumbleresque bandwagon that's using gender as their hot new brand of SJW politics to fuel their personal outrage boners, then yes, those people can fuck right off. If you're talking about that crowd, that probably has more people jumping into it for social reasons and deluding themselves into thinking they have problems they don't, then yes, they can fuck right off. We can agree on that!

But even if you cut out that giant, hideous mess, you still have people who are transgendered and suffer from actual dysphoria, and who really just want to get that dealt with so they can live their life in a body they don't hate. I know there's going to be overlap, but those two groups aren't the same thing. But if you think they are, if you genuinely think they're entirely equivalent, then I'm pretty sure this conversation is pointless and we'll never convince each other of anything except how wrong we are to the other.

You asked what taking care of the ones that think they're a glass of juice entails.

The ones that go 'you know what, fuck this, I want tits. I've always wanted tits, and I will get some fucking tits'? they're not juice glasses.

I started asking questions because "degeneracy" was being thrown around, and the orange juice thing came afterward. But if that's your stance, we're not actually disagreeing about anything, so have a good day with maybe one less pointless argument about nothing in it.

One is pushing tolerance in the most obnoxious way possible, and the other WAS pushing ignorance but wasn't up in your face about it.

Now, you hateful chucklefucks are screaming from the rooftops. People ignored you because you were quiet and SJWs were loud. Now, you're loud too and you've lost your only advantage.

Thank god, I was worried that I would have to put up with these shitty ass junkbots.

Well personally, all power to those people.

Just deciding you want tits because tits are awesome, rather than some thought about what sex you're 'meant' to be? I can accept that.

Tits are great.

Probably smaller than a Firefly in Star Wars terms, but you could interpret the crew area and Bridge as two decks instead of one, making the cargo area three, and it would be about Firefly size.

I'm totally okay with the ones that go "screw this, this is what I want, I'm going for it". Be the man or woman you want to be.

What I'm not okay with at all is the ones that want us to pretend they're whatever they want us to pretend they are today, and who demand we ignore obvious physical traits in doing so.

It's *not* an external reverse-vagina, that's a cock, and you are still a man.
