How would the discovery of intelligent alien life in the real world affect fantasy literature?
>>
Impossible to know, because your statement would require more context then you actually have bothered to provide.
What's earth like? In what country? What problems are around? What are the aliens like? Are they even humanoid? Do they have anything in common with us? Can they even be communicated with? Are they hostile? Are they friendly? Do they even have those concepts as a species? Is their technology on par with ours or not?

Post like this are always either stupid as fuck or made by fuckinh stupid people because they require answers in absence of context, except that ALL answer to ALL questions require context to make any sense.

The fact that they're intelligent alien life is more than you'll ever need, it's what challenges humanities worldview and perspective of what it means to be mundane. The rest is just trivia.

Dude, there's modern fantasy literature with settings in which the fucking periodic table isn't true. Fantasy literature doesn't care what exists or doesn't exist in the real world. There would continue to be fantasy literature with aliens and fantasy literature without aliens, whatever the author prefers.

But would it be racist not to include the vulcans in an obviously earth inspired setting?

No. But whoever did it first would make enough money to start a trend.

The idea that people from the next ethnicity group over aren't stupid animals/monsters that run on predictable instinct is a relatively new idea in the collective human thought process and it didn't have a noticable impact on literature other than stereotypes sometimes being broken.

In general, literature seems to at least loosely affect society's hopes and fears. Like how Dracula and werewolves represented the fear of late Victorians of the ancient, primal corners of the world and their masculine and sexual power compared to the average Englishman. If you look at stories or movies today, a lot of them deal with topics that are related to being too interconnected through things like the internet - the bad guys are bringing out spy networks or using the tools of government against the heroes.

Intelligent alien life would probably add an aspect to literature of caution or trepidation - something new and unknowable. Or perhaps an optimistic approach of finding kinship and understanding, reflected onto fantasy literature by way of elves or dwarves.

You always end up with some autist in these threads trying to belittle the OP for no reason at all.

Back on topic, it wouldn't. It would intentionally be kept as an alien-less genre because it reminds people of an older, more magical time.

Whereas sci-fi would get hit hard. It would probably end up as inter-dimensional beings as the next big entity.

Could alien literature be incorporated into our own? How would humanity adapt to a wider universal culture, when everything about our own - how we measure our days and the world around us, how we talk and see each other - is based on us and our world?
