First time posting here, sorry if I do something wrong. I'm currently working on a D&D campaign and I've decided it's time for me to make my own world. I have all the basic stuff done and i'd like to do a cool map for it.
My questions are: how do I make a good map? What programs would you suggest? Any tips? How to make an interesting and believable topography?
Also general maps thread I guess
(pic somewhat related as I'd like to do something like that)

woah this is some good mapporn? how was this map made? What program did you use? I NEED IT
For your first time around, I would suggest happing out a small area. Like a kind of regional map. That lets you have a good bit of detail in the starting area and remember, nothing is "canon" until the players encounter it.

There is a website called Inkarnate that is both easy to use and looks great, if you don't mind working from a browser. Here is an example of a map I made (the yellow dots can even be clicked to open a text box, allowing you to essentially put location-specific short notes down).

Pretty sure it's hand-drawn. Trees and bushes are special brushes, probably custom as well.
