Anyway as for ideas,

Due to the fact that the goverment is fairly weak,
they can't really regulate a currency so I don't think the race would have moved to fiat money.
Instead I would suggest that the currency is a rare vital ingredient of the drug that they consume.
This would keep inflation away since everyone uses it.
The ingredient it self could be some sort of mineral that can be mined from astroids.
Solidifying the idea of space capitalist with a ongoing gold rush where even the lowest of members of societly could with hard work and luck become wealthy.

I was actually planning on currency being mostly drugs, services, materials, sex and other such things. That's a good idea though, I'm gonna ask the GM if it's cool with him when I meet up with him.
