The most recent time?
He charged straight into a dragon's jaws like a God at the end of the world, and got dragged down from his horse. But that was pretty much just bad luck.

The thing that was entirely his own fault was trying to calm people down by yelling at them really loud. Sounded really good in his head, but that clearly doesn't work out so well in real life, as opposed to in a play.

Not my characters, but literally just to night my party had a very sobering moment of "wow... how did we get to this point".
Our sorc just learned cloudkill. I don't think they were prepared for just what it can do to a room full of mooks.
A load of hobgoblins had a village in a canyon. A few of the warriors are shooting at them from the floor of the canyon, and the sorc lobs a cloudkill down there. It wipes out a few of the mooks and rolls on down a ways, pretty much leaving the immediate area of the fight but billowing through another large room carved out of the canyon walls. The party doesn't think much of it, and fucks off to another part of the canyon while the cloud dissipates. Later on, they come back and search the other rooms. The room they had gassed without checking ended up being the kitchens, where all the children and women were. Mind you, I did not set this up. It is a pre-written Paizo module. When I explained what they found, there was a very long quiet time. The sorc has since expressed he doesn't want to use that spell anymore.
It... was kinda messed up.

This is why he has Charisma and a flock of hotties, and you're seething at him from the window of your tower.
>>
>>55016114
Casting hot Cloudkills while he bawls his pretty little eyes out. He'll never fill a ruins with dangerous artefacts for any oaf to run across and abuse with that attitude!
>>
>>55016070
Mostly compounded by the fact that just before they'd found that room, they'd had another encounter where they'd run up against some hobs holed up in a sort of fort. I think the original intent was to toss in the cloudkill and fight them in the open. When they left their defenses. However, someone immediately picked up on the idea of closing and holding the door. For four rounds the guys inside were struggling to push the door open against the PCs until at last there was no more attempts by anything inside to get out. A few PCs were involved in holding the door originally, but eventually at least one of them just couldn't do it anymore and stopped helping.
They didn't open the door for a long time. But first they went back to check the room mentioned above.

Not complaining one bit. It's not as if they weren't planning to kill pretty much all of them anyway, but I was just impressed that we managed to have a very serious moment where not only the characters but even the players stopped to question what they were doing, and I didn't have to do anything as the GM.
Just odd, considering how often you have to work your ass off as a GM to make players really notice something and even then it's usually cheap shock.

It's a MMO (and a tv series that's pretty good), it's kind of like a multiplayer final fantasy tactics. Where a characters race is their class. Everyone is human so liking the pandagirls or the catgirls isn't furry, they just change appearance based on the god they worship. There were 12 gods initially, but there's also some other minor ones.

There's also a great big huge ogre who flooded the world by crying to hard after accidentally killing the thing he loved while fighting the 12 gods. Ogrest is a badass.
>>
>>55016371

No, it's a French MMO. Wouldn't be surprised if someone on /tg/ has experience with a World of Twelve game, though-it's enjoyed some decent popularity.
>>

It was very much a weird moment to watch them realize what they had ended up doing.
"Did... Did we just literally hold the doors closed while people on the other side tried desperately to escape a lethal poisonous gas?"
"We...Are the heroes, right?"
All I could do was sort of shrug. I didn't prompt them one bit.

>>
>>55016502

It's true-all the "races" are actually humans who've pledged their soul to a deity, and their appearance changes to reflect that. Children can take after either parent, or in rare cases, not take after them at all.

Most people treat it as a joke, anyhow-they post the cat race or the panda race, and feign confusion when someone suggests they're other than perfectly human.
>>
>>55016570
Oh I'm aware of how it works.

I'm just laughing at the implication they aren't furry because of it.

Not that I'm being accusatory or derisive of them, heck no. I'm just honest with myself.

Hey, I'm the GM for the Black Ship game.

I've been on the Discord for a few months, fairly actively, and I've been playing in two games for a few months now as well (Shardwalkers and Pendragon Institute). I copied some of the formatting from other /pfg/ game applications because it was convenient to do so. I'm a little nervous about the game because it's been a long time since I've GM'd anything actively and I'm operating without the prebuilt structure of an Adventure Path/Module, but I think it'll be fun.

If it fails it'll be because I crash and burn as a GM, not because I just vanish. That's my official promise to you, the viewer.

>>55015327

I usually GM, but one of the characters in the party I run felt deeply conflicted after murdering a slaver. This was in a country where slavery is legal, though the party despised it. It wasn't the result of a fight or anything, the slaver was just chilling in a tavern and had a long chat with the party, lamenting her failing business. After discussing economics for an hour and getting her badly drunk, the normally jovial party sorceress helped her to bed, then promptly murdered her with death magic and stuffed the body into a bag of holding.

The act was mostly pointless - the slaver had no slaves, very little money, and no plot importance. I'm pretty sure it was the first time anyone in the party killed someone out premeditated malice rather than self-defense. They had a good long sit to discuss the ethics of it, but didn't come to any sort of conclusion except that it was kind of shitty all around. The sorceress felt guilty for a long while, but had no means to make up for it.
>>
>>55021680
Probably not a good idea, Dazing spell depends on original spell level, you're a 6th level caster, you won't get many dazed turns. Though using it in something like Frostbite (up to your level number of attacks that can daze for 1 turn) could be potentially cool on multiple enemies
>>
>>55022228
no, it's worse than that, you use your arcane pool instead and can never use panache from another source, and you never actually count your arcane pool as having a point of panache remaining no matter how much you have left, meaning you can't actually follow up a parry, let alone take Arcane Deed to get an actually useful ability.
>>
>>55022605
>>55021772
I'm reaching a point in where I dunno in where to spend my feats, I planed my char up to 7th level thinking we weren't go to play that long and now I find myself at 8th level with no end in the near future.

Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration are other picks I have in mind, but probably for higher level
I was looking at Spell Perfection but I need 3 metamagics for that and Dazing seemed like a cool one

Pathfinder condensed a number of skills down from 3rd/3.5 Edition, gives players more feats, uses CMD, and encourages players to stick with a single class, rather than half a dozen like 3rd/3.5.

Beyond that, they're extremely similar.
>>
>>55024376
>she was just not a well made character compared to the field

Which is a perennial issue of making dragon characters for campaigns that aren't called "Dragons." A campaign accepting a dragon PC is always a warning sign because it shows a degree of apathy towards the campaign integrity.
>>
>>55024280
>>55024376

I'm curious - it's easy to look at dead games and say 'called it' after the fact, but which ones were unexpected?

Great! Let's talk about it, then.
>tfw you know you're a pretty subpar GM and have no interest in lewds so /pfg/ wouldn't care.
/pfg/ is thirsty for games, that is a well documented fact. So thirsty, in fact, that your GMing skills probably won't even come into question if you're willing to put in the time to actually run the thing. Just look at RotJR which took six months to go up one level.
As for the lewds, most lewds people are interested in are actually PC-on-PC lewds. Just tell them to take the lewd to a private space and it'll be jim dandy.
>tfw you're just leery of GMing for online groups in general on account of aforementioned subpar GMing

>>55024717
You shouldn't charge them anything. You're working together as a team, this is a co-operative game. You're being greedy; they should be paying you the entire cost to create the item, as well as supplying the materials, but you shouldn't be taking "personal crafting fees".
>>
>>55024808
then the second point still stands
>>
>>55024814
Two players sounds like a nightmare to consistently have enough players for a game.
>>
>>55024637
Gestalt's not that hard. It makes the players a little tougher, but with a /pfg/ game you're probably going out of your way not to kill PCs. I'd love to see a CotCT game with the RotJR chargen rules.
>>
>>55024802
Have them resolve against flat-footed AC (without needing the target to be flat-footed or losing this against uncanny dodgers) instead of touch AC to represent that it's a lot faster than an arrow but is more likely to shatter or bounce against heavy armor than a much heavier crossbow bolt
>>
>>55024809

>>
>>55024922
And if the GM had a conflict for the week, that would sink the game for the week, your point?
>>
>>55024999
But in a six player game, if one player has a conflict for the week, it's likely the game could continue for the other five players.
>>
>>55024999
My point is that I would be more comfortable with 3-4 players. At least that way one or even two players missing wouldn't cancel the game. Obviously, if I had a conflict that day, it would cancel it, but that can't always be helped.
>>
>>55024003
Bathe Yourself in Blood is dead.
>>
>>55025019
>>55025029
This is one of the reasons I really like the tendency of /pfg/ games to go big with party numbers, that way we can keep playing through fluctuating schedules.
>>
>>55025178
Most people who apply to games here use gestalt to squeeze more flavor out of a character (e.g. having one "main" class to determine primary abilities and one "flavor" class for a little utility) rather than as a powergaming prybar. As far as I've heard none of the gestalt games have run into issues of having games be too complicated or too easy even when they're running a few levels above the recommendation.
>>
>>55025415
It's a good quality, but corralling that many players, or balancing encounters for ~6 gestalt, PoW-using PCs sounds really daunting.
>>
>>55024889
Remember, it's a co-operative game. They should be willing to help you, free of charge, learn these spells, so that you in turn may help them. They'll help you help themselves.
>>
>>55025496
Like I said in >>55025494, the existing gestalt AP games don't seem to have much trouble just running the APs as is. Sure it's a little simpler at the beginning of the book, but level 1 is rusty dagger shanktown.
>>
>>55024809
You're working together as a team but you do not necessarily share their core interests nor do you necessarily need to give shit for free. They're still getting a discount compared to any other merchant, stop thinking of the Paladin as "the Party's Paladin" and start thinking of him as "Andreas the Human Paladin, who is adventuring with Karlos the Half-orc Barbarian, Leiftania the Elven Wizard, and Cragi the Dwarven Cleric". They're still seperate people, the party is not a single rigid body.

But I need to spice his image somehow. So I thought, maybe you'll be able to help me? Maybe some non-exotic but still unusual weapon and something like gimmick? Something that don't require mechanical investment. Without going too far into "silly" or "comical" territory
>>
>>55025551
Demanding a fee above cost in order to craft magic items for other party members is just as shitty as the rogue who steals treasure and hides it from the party before demanding his 'equal' share of the dungeon's spoils.

>When his father died, he left him the deed with the stipulation that Asshole be allowed to live out the rest of his life happily on the property
>party had to keep this promise to the wand maker's father
>after the wand maker is packed and leaves, my party discusses the possibility that invaders, or even hungry militiamen, would kill and eat asshole, voiding the agreement/promise
>want to put it out of it's "misery" (our shaman talked to it, it was perfectly content) which would also void the promise
>commence an hour and a half debate with actually really good role playing
>two other party members, both halflings, decide we should kill it before we go
>me, the only human of the group (everyone rolled halflings for some reason) refuses to be a part of this and starts scrounging for materials
>watch through the window as two halflings to to figure out the most humane way to kill it
>too short to reach his head or neck
>try to throw a throwing knife at it

There was regret all around. Including the GM who mourned his decision to put Asshole in such a cruel world.

>>
>>55025599
The rogue who steals treasure is being 'shitty', and that is often handled in-character well. The cost to craft magic items might be half the cost to buy them, but selling them at 150% crafting cost still amounts to a 25% discount from any other source. Pathfinder isn't a game of flowery cooperation, it's a game where, like most ttrpgs, you play a person who may or may not be interested in giving shit away. Now obviously most people want to do it anyway, because the Wizard empowering the Paladin means the Wizard is less likely to get killed and therefore it's perfectly logical to make no profit from the 'sale', but there's no reason why it's inherently shitty to ask for a fee in exchange for helping them make shit - and if it is, it can still be resolved IC.

The rogue was in the dungeon helping the party anyway, he did not go above and beyond to acquire the extra treasure and there was no opportunity cost. The crafter, meanwhile, performs his craft during the downtime. Now, he can either help the party members to his own detriment, or he can make items for himself, which will also benefit the party. Thus, a significant opportunity cost which warrants compensation.

I'm sorry, you do make a good point, and I don't have much in the manner of response. Perhaps you play in a different manner than I am accustomed to.

The reason I responded the way I did;
>>55025534
and
>>55024889
is because even though we may all be different players (characters, in this sense), I always see the success of the overall group over my own personal gain (think of a hydra. If I were to die in game, I want the other heads/players to succeed as best they can, not fail because I wanted the shiny good good). Besides, I should be more then willing to help the person with whom I share a common goal. In out of game terms, what do I personally gain by charging my actual friend, in game, for service? I see this person every week, sometimes more than that. His characters and mine are constantly working together. He scratches my back, I'll scratch his.
Perhaps I am too group minded? Perhaps it's because I've never played in a group that encourages personal gain over that of the party? I've always worked with my teammates towards a singular goal, not multiple, long winded ends that I should strive to hide my motives from my real life friends, even if it's only "In character". If I'm saving the world, shouldn't I be willing to help those that are saving my ass? I mean, that's more then enough of a fee to do. Besides, in game, what am I going to spend the money on? Something to increase my crafting skills, so I can charge more and more money? Maybe it's better (For me, anyway) to just fight the bad guy, and have fun along the way, even if that means I'm short the 250 GP it costs to craft such and such. Room and board is generally a few copper. And if I'm short that, my buddy has me covered.

"Summoner" as a class? Create Pit(s), Grease - to name few spells. It's not very useful, but it's not completely wasted feat either.
Core and APG - Improved Initiative, Craft Wondrous Items (maybe some other magical-craft-feats, if you'd like it), Expanded Arcana (later in the game). After that - whatever. There aren't that many good feats left in CRB+APG. Maybe Toughness, Combat Casting, Spell Penetration, etc. As for metamagic - just buy cheap rods.

She is a character in a game Banner Saga and possibly a main character in Banner Saga 2 (if she lives). She is also ludicrously OP in the second game.

Banner Saga 3 is currently in development.

It's high tier 4, but still tier 4, mainly because of its limited access to social talents and certain game changes like flight, mind reading, teleportation, etc.

Vigilante casting archetypes are tier 3.

Whats the point of putting in a wall when you have windows that can be easily breached with ladders/grappling hooks?
>>
How do you run a game for less people? I usually have a group of 4, but it's down to 2 for now. I'm guessing either Gestalt, helper NPC's, or being slightly overlevelled?
>>
>>55028271
The biggest problem they'll have is versatility. Sometimes this won't be a problem if they are versatile enough classes.

I say 1 NPC will be able to fill the gap.
>>
>>55028271
A gentle blend of all 3, depending on the game, though gestalt with companion creatures and/or cohorts can be a safe bet if the group is comfortable with (and capable of managing) that sort of thing. If the players and you don't want to do too many dramatic changes, then just stick with a bonus level and a helper NPC though, maybe throw in some items to cover gaps.

>>55027750
And none of that flavor is good, or at the very least it's nothing I like.

Pastebinned, as promised last time:

https://pastebin.com/Pc9rAzF3

The greentext covers two sessions note to self: never rush these greentexts like this again, but in VERY broad strokes the jist of what happened was:

>party meets and befriends the leader of the Sootscale Kobold tribe, who tells them about several nearby locations of bandits activity
>one of them is the crater left by the massive explosion from a year ago, which House Surtova blamed on bandits (but few believe the official story)
>party acquires the journal of a man who involved in the events that caused the explosion, showing the House Surtova was seemingly covering up their own mistakes
>very heated IC argument about what to do next ends with one broken cauldron and the PCs deciding to go check out the crater before anything else
>PCs find a massive crater lined with raw gold, but fenced off and surrounded by camps containing both bandits and members of the Company of the Red Claw, a Brevic army with a short write-up of its own here: https://pastebin.com/WFcrDTnZ
>Antoinette makes Viviana invisible to go snooping and she confirms the situation, the party then has a SECOND heated argument about what to do and at present the party is still trying to decide between sending Franze in to talk to their leader or attempt to steal proof from the camp

SurtovaGate is still on-going, but this is the second test of the party's ability to stick together and so far they are weathering it well. Have you ever had situations where interparty-tensions were running high due to differing allegiances, religions, or beliefs between the PCs? How did it end up panning out?
