Sly Marbo is explicitly mentioned in the Straken novel as being alive and well and serving under Straken.

He's still a crazy son of a bitch even by Catachan standards.

I don't think either of these are retconned, considering Stern's book is still in publication and Marbo had up-to-date rules as of 7th Edition.

Cypher is supposed to be the person to deliver the means of execution, and beyond this point, the Warp has to be cured of enough Warp Predators for E's soul to reform using the mass-sacrifice of the Sensei, and possibly every single Astropath (Barring ones placed in stasis for this event) in order to buy it the time for it to pretty much find it's way to Stern.

With any luck E would be saved from his soul fracturing into total ass, reborn, washed of all the mental scarring anguish and torment collected over a millennia of loneliness and inability to connect with anyone from the earliest ages of mankind to a new body as a young boy in a suitable vessel capable of sustaining him and his power, but bolstering it even more so than before that it unconsciously performs it's Psychic duties on Terra directed through it's mother. Until he is born with a fresh start and is able to live a childhood before mantling his duties as the whispers of his past life hit him once more.

In effect, as a second age of strife, this becomes the Second Great Crusade, and with E's newfound youth, he basically becomes Alexander the Great, but space, and that much more a swell guy.

There's also the fact that as a SoB Stern is sensitive to the bits of E floating around the universe, so picking up on them like a giant Nun magnet is probably a matter important.
