I want to do a BLAME!-esque cyberpunk campaign that plays inside a huge, cancerously growing complex that is part of an AI's hardware.

I want to use pic related as a map for a portion of the complex, but my knowledge regarding computer components is pretty much 0.

please help me flesh out some of the areas based on what the real component does and what kind of problems can be encountered there

Anon, what I'm about to tell you is not only not what you're looking for, but also useless.

I really don't think you should get hung up on what little piece of machinery does what. Your players, unless they know in detail how computers work and are pedantic about it, will just think it's cool you modeled the map after whatever this thing in your pic is.
And if they do know, you can just ask them about it.

It really seems like too much trouble to go after this information, when you already have a lot ahead of you as it is.

Read the manual, should have a page which labels the various parts.

I mean how much detail do you want?

ps
this might be worth a look, there's a few nice videos at the bottom explaining most of the parts and what they do

A list of megastructures, some of which take several thousand lifetimes to explore. I quite like the matrioskha-like shellworlds.

This may be what the players are inside of. The concept is similar to Blame's setting.

BTW, even the sewers and pipes could be part of the computing processes ocurring.

So op not particularly partaining to your subject, but the moment your brought up being inside an ai I thought I have no mouth and must scream

So don't be too blown away if that happens to you

Someone's been reading A Fire Upon The Deep?

It's the probable inspiration.
