Ask them simpler questions, possibly about their favorite books/tv shows and their characters. List off some party roles and see if anything catches their attention.

If they are actually completely neutral, then pick something easy for them. They'll get to see how they like it, and get to see what the other players picked. By the time they make their second character, they should have more of an idea of what the options entail.
