Reposting from last thread. I need a decent flying monster to challenge/kill a level 8 party of four. This creature should kill them if they charge straight in, but be beatable with any sort of prep or good planning. I'd normally make one myself, but I'm in a serious time-crunch and need something quick. Flying is a must.

The party will be monster hunting this thing.

Realistic firearms would be in the 2d6-2d12 damage range. So it's really not a problem unless you're /k/, in which case just use higher level weapons as the default.

1d firearms are simply a way of reducing the rusty dagger shanktown effect, and the verisimilitude isn't so bad with energy weapons.

Black powder weapons.

90% of deaths in the old West were not due to the gunshots, but the wounds becoming septic.

Hey 2hu, what do you think about EAC being a thing that scales easily with armor. Are EAC spells viable given that they will probably miss fairly often now that they are targeting an easy to raise defense?

Its given that stats are now easy to raise and casters now have 3/4 BAB, but still, light armor giving +22 means you will be targeting at least 32 EAC before dex with an attack mod of around +24.

>>

I agree with you but unfortunately I think we're outvoted.
>>
My GM seems to keep putting us against humanoid enemies who are complete fucking bullshit. He's said 'I don't think classes can give you as thematic set of abilities as just giving them what feels appropriate', which to me translates to 'Yeah enemies will just have what ever the fuck I feel like'.

Here is an example. We were on a train going like 60 miles per hour. We know we're being pursued by bounty hunters because we fucked up and had a huge bounty put on our heads.

Out of fucking nowhere we see something kicking up dust behind us. It's literally just one guy chasing down the train. We assume the worst and have our range try and take pot shots at him. While running the guy grabs the arrow our ranger shot at him and threw it back, except when he threw it the arrow punched a hole in the train car we were in. Eventually he got on the train. Now comes the really bullshit parts.

>me and him in a car with the rest of my part as support
>GM says he suddenly disappears from vision as he blurs
>says he 'time stutters'
>guy is already behind me and still running towards the head of the train
>huge dodge bonus to AC
>gets an extra standard action he uses randomly
>guy says he's "Ortensio Scioscia, Fastest Man Alive"
>his hands glow two different colors
>when we shot him with a spell he catches the spell in one hand and shoots it out of the other powered up

We couldn't outrun him, but after he broke the engine of the train we were on we injured him enough that he retreated. This is only one of a bunch of fucking stupid ass characters hat appear to kick the shit out of us.
>>

It's shit. You can cast a category of spells that are rarely useful, with a couple metamagics that are rarely useful, and for this you have to spend more than you will ever afford in a real campaign and lose darkvision if you have it.
>>
>>54925330
It only worked once a round, we figured that out part way through the fight, but yeah it was fucking bullshit.
>>
>>54925303
So basically, some bossfights are randomly unwinnable and you may as well not fight and conserve resources some times but accidentally tpk on the other.

Honestly I'd say stop playing with the GM but if you're desperate I guess all you can do is be a good cuck and take his shit.
>>
>>54925381
We normally win our fights, except a few times we've just had to fuck off. Like we won that fight, but it felt like bulshit because we ended up destroying the entire train and burning all our daily resources on the one right.

See, that's the thing.

Unified threads worked when Starfinder wasn't out, since there was limited discussion you could HAVE without the actual book. It'd usually boil down to 'what do you want to do in spess game' which is just setting fuckery.

But now the game is out. It's a separate game. Mechanics work differently often in subtle ways. Different things share the same name.

Technomancers. Full attacks. Changing grip on weapons.

And I mean come on, this is fucking /tg/. It's not like one more thread will cause the board to fucking combust or anything.

It only makes sense that most of the representative images would happen to contain non-caucasians. Worse yet, you've made your division into "whites" and "not-whites", when the fact of the matter is that "not-whites" as a spread is just much broader. They're not literal humans but there're at least two firmly caucasian-based depictions in the book, where-as when you break down not-whites into smaller race groups, you're left with what? A single east asian? One middle eastern? Two africans?

I definitely don't think you're a troll. I think you're just stupid. So fucking stupid.

As it stands that's just /pgg/, Starfinder edition and while I'm prepared to move over, I'm sure most of the thread will stay here if they want to discuss Starfinder since even this OP is more relevant.

So are you both saying it's IMPOSSIBLE for a character working towards the supposed "greater good" to actually be good? What if they are part of the sacrifice? Maybe it's a lawful dude advocating heavier taxation on the people, knowing he'll probably be losing more money than anyone else but willing to accept it because the government needs that money for some important project. Is that genuinely good? Evil? Neutral? If it's not evil, then that at least goes to show there's some situations where the "greater good" isn't always evil.

>>

>>54926535
> Taxation isn't fundamentally evil
That's my point. Taxation isn't evil, so if someone can be pushing for raising taxes because they legitimately think it's a good idea, because it's "for the greater good", are they a person pushing for the greater good that ISN'T evil?

Or would you just say I'm conflating different meanings of the word "good"?

so it's kind of official, you can be in multiple collectives at once.

>>
>>54926590
Look here Jayden smith, I know you must be giddy from having discovered philosophy for the first time but what you're bringing up has already been discussed a million times and from how you're talking its not that you want discussion rather you just want people to agree with your retarded justification.
>>
>>54926579
Alright, that makes sense. Taxation isn't good or evil (most of the time) so I suppose that example was a bad one anyway.

Well, another question. Can a person be [alignment] just on account of being willing to do [alignment] acts, even they haven't done them yet? In other words, is their alignment determined only by what they have done, or by what they would be willing to do?

>>54926607
So somebody who sacrifices themselves and other people (who may or may not get a say in the matter) would just even out at LN? They're paying for their own actions, but they're making other people go along with it without giving them a choice.

You're being too high-brow and cultured for me, I don't know which philosopher that is.

I'll toss you a different question, if this one triggers you. Should "True Neutral: I don't care edition" be a separate alignment from "True Neutral: Everything must be balanced edition"? Are both of those even really True Neutral, or would you say the first might be better called Chaotic Neutral?
>>
>>54926688
Yeah, I can see that happening, its something for essentially nothing but caster's dont always use their highest level spells every round so its not as good as advertised.
>>
>>54926665

Alignment is determined by the player or GM as befitting the concept of the character. However, both their previous actions and their willingness to engage in certain actions are certainly viable factors in that consideration. Someone who would gladly commit evil acts if given the opportunity is hardly a good person, and someone with a long and storied history of committing evil acts is very likely a bad guy. Of course, alignment can change, depending on the GM's judgement.
>>
>>54926726

Well, yeah, but let's say you end up having an average of DR 6-7/Piercing for the duration of the fight. That still remains pretty solid for a fullcaster. Heck, it could allow for tactical choices in spell usage every round.
>>
>>54926688
Yeah, since it doesn't have any level adjustment it seems pretty sweet. Limited only to spells with the [Water] descriptor and I don't know how many there are or if many are good, but it's a nice bonus. +0 level metamagic can always be useful for any effects that trigger off you casting a spell modified with metamagic like... Wait, The Arcane Bloodline's bloodline arcana specifies it only triggers in response to metamagic that actually raises the spell's level. That's definitely the less stupid way for it to work, but I could have sworn it just triggered any time you cast a spell with metamagic, even if it's at +0 spell level. Did that get changed on the PFSRD to conform to an errata, or was it always that way?

>>54926767

>>
>>54926867
>s all alignment discussion automatically retarded psuedo-philisophical bullshit?
pretty much, since Alignment itself was originally convieved based upon vague yet arbitrary guidelines that inevitably mean different things to different people, with most of the arguing coming from people having differing ideas as to what the different alignments and thier componants actually mean.

Basically, its kinda like autists arguing over what "magic" and "demons" are, bu with more philosophical/ethical baggage associated with it

In Golarion, Chaos was probably the first alignment to exist, since IIRC the first plane was either the Maelstrom or the Abyss and all the planes are made out of aligned soulstuff. Evil might have been second, but I've got no idea when Good and Law showed up. On the other hand, there's that whole business with Ithys and Asmodeus, but I don't remember if they predate the planes themselves.

Stop consuming the Government's Property. Taxes are no more different than any other form of paying for a good or service. You are paying the government to be able to use amenities like water, electricity, roads, hunting game, telephone wires, and all the other things that the Government actually owns (Except the Wildlife part if you're in NA, as according to the North American Model of Game Management Wildlife is technically property of the Commons and the States merely manage it in the name of the Commons)

To me, paying your taxes is no different than if in an Ancap setting you'd still be paying the local Warlord/Megacorp for the privilege to use their privately own resources. If anything, the presence of Taxation is only possible in a Capitalist society, as a full-blow Communis society would not have any form of taxation due to the wealth and resources already being completely own by the Oligarchy and centrally planned and distributed back to the Proletariat as they see fit. Hence why Communist nations are more likely to fail as well, since no singular group of men should ever be trusted with the great wealth of an entire nation's value and resources.

So, the only wayyou can state the "Hippity Hoppity" line without being a hypocrite, would be if you lived completely and uterly off the grid, never drove, and didn't have access to the internet of modern amenities, which considering you're here on 4chan, we can clearly and easily rule that out

CE doesn't mean crazy. He was CE from the first season but people misattribute personality to alignment.

He was always philosophically opposed to law, order, and tradition. He makes his decisions entirely on his desires, he just has the head to plan for the long-term. As an active choice, he never plays by any of the rules, not even in the way that NE should use lawful methods to get by, he plays to avoid them entirely.

That stuff strongly removes him from lawful, but what puts him most strongly on CE as opposed to NE is that he doesn't just sit on striking out for his own. As far back as his interactions with Ned he's always strongly pushed the idea that the everyone should be an individual operating for themselves. Every aspect of the character leans chaotic.

Chaos is a ladder, so to say.

Powered armor is for switch-hitters. The most optimal powered-armor-user is a halfling soldier who keeps Strength at 8 and takes the Guard fighting style to bypass the Strength prerequisite for using the Powered Armor Proficiency feat.

Such a halfling can then avail of a high Strength and a high Dexterity.

I still do not think such a build would be quite as effective as a 5th-level soldier with Blitz, Hit and Run, or Sharpshoot, however.

Take Ghost and then help me decide whether my Vesk Mechanic should go Drone or Exocortex. I know which one is the more sound build, but I'm not sure which flavor is better. I'm wanting to make a Vesk who eschews most of the typical methods and traditions of his people, but still embraces that good ol' Vesk tradition of smashing in faces. I just can't decide whether it'd be cooler for his rejection of tradition to come in the form of him taking self-augmentation and enhancement in the name of becoming harder, better, faster, stronger to a level even other Vesk balk at or whether he "cheats" by having a robo-buddy to fight dirty with.

Most of us are aware of the envoy's major troubles as a class; I am still positive that a halfling envoy with Longarm Proficiency and Get 'Em at 1st, Clever Feint at 2nd, Weapon Specialization (longarms) at 3rd, Clever Attack at 4th, and Improved Get 'Em is the best possible build for an envoy who wants to kill people and help allies kill people. Nevertheless, I found myself curious about one of the expertise talents:

>Well Informed
>You keep yourself as up to date as possible about the events and major figures of any region you are in. Once you have been in a settlement or region for at least 24 hours, when you attempt a Diplomacy check to gather information, you can forgo your expertise die to attempt the check as a swift action (rather than the normal 24 hours).

Bear in mind that this does not actually limit you to gathering information about "the events and major figures of any region you are in." Since there are telecommunications and internet networks in this setting, a major settlement such as Absalom Station could very well be home to countless information brokers and other intel sources.

A 3rd-level lashunta envoy could have Diplomacy 3 ranks + Charisma modifier 5 with personal upgrade + class skill bonus 3 + racial bonus 2 + insight bonus 3 from Skill Focus = Diplomacy +16. By taking 10, they hit a DC of 26.
• The DC to gather "obscure or secret knowledge" is 20 or more, so this character is well-off when trying to tackle such a task.
• The DC to gather information on a "prominent or well-known individual" is 5 + character's CR, which means up to CR 21 for this lashunta envoy.
• The DC to gather information on an "average or ordinary individual" is 10 + character's CR, which means up to CR 16 for this lashunta envoy.
• The DC to gather information on a "mysterious or obscure individual" is 15 + character's CR, which means up to CR 11 for this lashunta envoy.

How useful could this be? Does this lead to intel omniscience while in Absalom Station?

How about the S19, the most forgettable word in astrogation droids! Designed with a monowheel and cut-rate gyroscope to ensure it is constantly falling over and unable to right itself, it provides excellent service to anyone who doesn't expect their droid to accompany them anywhere! Other features include an astrogation buffer so poorly designed that it must be removed if you modify it to use a repulsorlift engine, and a chassis so padded that most users gut its interior to make room for a shield generator, turning the unit into a mindless laser sponge!

The S19-be disappointed by one today!

The benefits of the drone significantly outweigh the benefits of the exocortex. It does not help that the exocortex has a mostly-dead 5th-level feature, considering that a custom rig can already be inside one's brain. (This is how to use a artificial personality for social skills, by the way.)

As per the FAQ, the Dexterity 16 hover drone can use weapons sized for regular characters, thereby making it a great source of damage output.

Take Longarm Proficiency as your 1st-level feat, and then Versatile Specialization as your 3rd-level feat.

lawful the alignment has nothing to do with laws. Law is the antithesis of chaos. It is ordering and structuring and categorizing the universe into smaller and smaller units in the face of entropy. If you ask your GM, you might get a bonus on the check if he's shown it to you before. :^)

I was a bit uncertain for what to use for some of the cases when you're technically not scaring them nor lying to them, but I felt it was better to just leave it as only Bluff or Intimidate for all the spells. I guess Perform:Oratory would work, but the only ones who rank that are bard/skald who get VPerformance anyway.

This spell ignores immunities (but not bonuses to saves; for the purpose of DCs, an immunity to fear counts as a +4 bonus against fear instead) against Fear effects, and a target that becomes Shaken from this spell loses any immunity to fear effects for the duration of the Shaken effect inflicted by this spell.

The only one I've ever heard brought up, though that a thousand times over, was that killing an infant of an always evil race was a justifiably lawful good act, as an act of both preemptive prevention of felonious behavior and as a mercy to the infant. I once played in a group who chose all ranged characters but myself.
I had two character ideas in mind, one a caster, one a monk. I went with the monk. He died first session, because pretty much nothing can survive being a one-man front line, especially not a monk.

We would have ben much better as a group of all ranged, kiting the enemies around and scattering then and shooting each other's aggressors.

Instead, we had a front line of one, who died almost immediately in the first boss fight (admittedly, it, along with everything else, was like CR+3 because my DM wanted us level up once every three sessions but refused to use milestones instead because he believes escaping impossible odds is when the game is best) then everything else came close to dying by the end of combat, because they had no strategy other than "let the front line tank."

Point is, a group of all one category is sometimes better than including an odd man out for balance, because it forces the group to actually think about how they're going to handle problems they don't have a designated member for, rather than assuming "eh it's handled" when it's clearly not.
