Unchained rogues and maguses are very very likely to run with a Dexterity focus to the exclusion of Strength. I know people do it, people say so here, I just don't see how carrying capacity supports it.

I guess I'm looking at, how do people who play these things optimize them? Mithral shirt seems a given. Do you get expensive weapons in mithral too? Are we not even supposed to count the 5-10 lbs of clothes worn ingame?

Those examples don't all out dump Str typically, they just leave it as a mediocre stat they don't really touch. Also those aren't really straight up martial classes.

Masterwork backpack provides +1 to strength for carrying capacity, costs almost nothing.

>Is CHA actually a useful stat for a solarion

As far as I can tell, the build below is the single most powerful solarian build for actually being a strong and durable combatant, starting from 1st level. I have already explained the troubles with being a pure-classed solarian in >>54900229, and so it is time to patch those problems with some old-fashioned optimization.

• At 1st-level, you are a generic "tactical pike and hidden soldier armor" soldier. You act first, you run up to people, you stab them, and you threaten them with attacks of opportunity.

• At 2nd-level, you gain +1 damage. Hooray.

• At 3rd-level, your mobility sharply increases as you gain Stellar Rush. You should ignore the bull rush function in almost all cases. You should instead use Stellar Rush for unparalleled melee mobility.

• At 5th-level, you gain a major upgrade to your raw melee damage from Plasma Sheath. You start combat with a move action for Plasma Sheath, and then launch into a Stellar Rush. You also gain Enhanced Resistance (kinetic), making you quite durable.

• At 7th-level, you open up combats with a move action for a Plasma Sheath and a standard action for a Corona. You now have a passive aura for damage, and anyone striking you will suffer damage. Also at this level is when you might want to drop the tactical pike and start to use your solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal.

• After that point, the build is mostly yours to piece together. Whether you will prefer your solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal or a high-level two-handed advanced melee weapon depends on your specific level and what you have the budget to afford.

• During this process, you completely ignore the existence of Black Hole, Supernova, graviton mode, and almost all graviton revelations. Why bother with them when you can stay attuned in photon mode for the raw damage and other benefits? Photon zenith revelations, on the other hand, may be worth it from time to time.

Guys, stupid as fuck idea for ya. A magus spell, see, it's evocation. It does this:
>Pick an energy type when you cast the spell from Acid/Fire/Cold/Electricity
>You get a free touch attack upon casting the spell, and can make this touch attack 1 time per caster level
>it deals 1d6+(0.5*CL) energy damage per touch attack as a 1st level spell
>a Magus is explicitly allowed to "recast it" any time during the spell's duration without needing to spend another spell slot, in order to use spell combat to get a bonus attack
>still has to make a concentration check to do the "recast"
It has a Greater version that's a level 3 spell which does 1d6+CL with the same 1 touch attack/CL, and additionally bestows a +1 bonus on any attack roll made with the spell per 7 caster levels
>>
>>54913884

What do you think of the build below, then? One way I can see it being improved is turning it into soldier (blitz) 3/solarian 17, although I am unsure myself of whether or not that would be truly optimal overall.

Theme: Any
Race: Human
Class: Soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 19

1st-level Equipment:
• 475 credits: Pike, tactical
• 465 credits: Hidden soldier armor (with free personal comm unit as per page 430)
• Remaining: 60 credits

Ability Scores before Theme and Personal Upgrades:
• 1st-level: Strength 18, Dexterity 14, Constitution 10, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10
• 5th-level: Strength 19, Dexterity 16, Constitution 12, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 12, Charisma 10
• 10th-level: Strength 20, Dexterity 18, Constitution 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 14, Charisma 10
• 15th-level: Strength 21, Dexterity 19, Constitution 16, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 16, Charisma 10
• 20th-level: Strength 22, Dexterity 20, Constitution 18, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 18, Charisma 10
• Top Priority for Personal Upgrades: Strength

Feats:
Human: Improved Initiative
• 1st Level: Weapon Focus (advanced melee weapons)
• 3rd Level: Weapon Specialization (advanced melee weapons), retrained at 4th level to [whichever out of Coordinated Shot, Great Fortitude, Iron Will, and Toughness you think will benefit you most] via mnemonic editor mk 1 for 500 credits
• 5th Level: Enhanced Resistance (kinetic)
• 7th, 9th, 11th, 13th, 15, 17th, and 19th Level: [Whichever out of Deflect Projectiles, Lunge, Penetrating Attack, Reflect Projectiles, Sky Jockey, Step Up, Step Up and Strike you think will benefit you most, you qualify for, and you do not already have]

I dare say that a soldier (sharpshoot) 19/solarian (solar armor) 1 build is optimal.

The solarian dip provides a ranged soldier a handful of useful class skills (including Perception and Stealth!), +1 AC from solar armor, and +1 damage from photon mode.

Would anyone else agree that this is a good investment?

>>54913959

Feel free to cut off the build wherever you see fit. The "peak" of the build, so to speak, is probably at soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 6.

>>54913996

If the game *starts* at 5th level, then I would say the best possible melee character is a soldier (hit and run). You want to make melee attacks as often as possible, and so you perform mobile full attacks via Nimble Fusillade.

If you are dead-set on a solarian, however, a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4 would be perfectly serviceable. You could open combat with a Plasma Sheath and a Stellar Rush and then deal consistent damage from round to round.

Then you will be struggling with MAD to a degree, and you will be staring at a completely dead 5th level for the solarian.

>What does the increased access to items of potentially IL 7 do to the solarion's progression?
Solarian 6 is what nudges up the damage of photon mode and Plasma Sheath by 1 each, and what grants Corona.

The ability bump doesn't help much?
I was speculating that you could start with an array of something like 16 str, 12 dex, 12 con, and 12 Cha, with your bump putting them to 18, 14, 14, 14
As for the item level question, I meant more for available items to potentially synergize with and/or contend with the manifestation options. If there is a particularly attractive suit of light armor in the AL+2 range for example, Solar armor could be quite the nice pick, whereas if you want to conserve money that would be spent on a IL7 melee weapon, solar weapon might be a decent pick as you can devote more of your starting (considerable) WBL on the vastly expanded item options available due to starting at 5.

>I was speculating that you could start with an array of something like 16 str, 12 dex, 12 con, and 12 Cha, with your bump putting them to 18, 14, 14, 14

For a human starting at 5th level, consider the following for a soldier (hit and run) 5, or a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4, before themes:

• 1st Level: Strength 16, Dexterity 14, Constitution 12, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10
• 5th Level: Strength 18 (upgraded to 20 by personal upgrade), Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 12, Charisma 10

The character is now more durable than an equivalent solarian, and even has a little more Will.

It helps that a 5th level character can spend 3,910 credits on vesk overplate I, which grants a whopping +9 EAC, +11 KAC, +3 maximum Dexterity bonus, -2 armor check penalty, -5 feet, and 1 upgrade slot.

>As for the item level question

For a soldier (hit and run) 5 or a soldier (blitz) 1/solarian (solar weapon) 4 with 9,000 credits to spare, I would probably purchase:

• 3,910 credits: Vesk overplate I
• 3,100 credits: Armor upgrade, jetpack
• 1,400 credits: Personal upgrade, Strength +2
• 475 credits: Pike, tactical (yes, really; it is still cost-effective, and your other items give you durability, mobility, and raw accuracy and damage)
• Remaining: 115 credits

You might not have much for any ranged weapon beyond the cheapest of the cheap, but then, even if you did purchase one, it would most likely do little against the enemies you face.

If I was absolutely, positively dead-set on playing a single-classed human solarian starting at 5th level, I would probably go with Heavy Armor Proficiency, solar weapon, and the following before theme:

• 1st Level: Strength 16, Dexterity 14, Constitution 12, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 10
• 5th Level: Strength 18 (upgraded to 20 by personal upgrade), Dexterity 16, Constitution 14, Intelligence 10, Wisdom 10, Charisma 12

Enhanced Resistance (kinetic) should be the 5th-level feat, thereby locking out Extra Resolve until 7th-level. However, a pool of 3 Resolve Points should get the solarian through three or four combat encounters each adventuring day.

• 3,910 credits: Vesk overplate I
• 3,100 credits: Armor upgrade, jetpack
• 1,400 credits: Personal upgrade, Strength +2
• 475 credits: Pike, tactical (yes, really; it is still cost-effective, and other items grant durability, mobility, and raw accuracy and damage)
• Remaining: 115 credits

I would then drop the tactical pike in favor of the solar weapon with a solarian weapon crystal at solarian 6.

Bear in mind that the "champion" build of the solarian prescribes prioritizing Strength, then Dexterity, then Constitution.

>>
>>54914567
Interesting.
Very well then.
People have been speaking of perhaps homebrewing a rule to make the Solarian more competitive with other classes.
If the manifestation options gave you CHA to attack/damage and AC/saves respectively, how would this build change?
Would changing one stat to be dependent on it make Charisma actually worth being called a core stat on the solarian? And if so, which would be the more solid choice? Swapping your STR and CHA scores to get cha to your attacks, or balancing your stats out a bit better to make good use of the additional AC?

I do not see a good mechanical reason for a melee solarian to bother with anything but Stellar Rush at 2nd, Plasma Sheath at 4th, and Corona at 6th, ignoring the existence of graviton mode, graviton revelations, Black Hole, and Supernova.

Of course, I also espouse that every solarian should also dip a level in soldier (blitz) as their very first character level.

>If the manifestation options gave you CHA to attack/damage and AC/saves respectively, how would this build change?

Charisma to all saving throws is totally extravagant by Starfinder standards. However, using Charisma for AC is weaker than using Charisma for attack rolls and damage rolls, as the latter dictates direct offense.

I would have solarians use Charisma for their attack rolls and damage rolls, regardless of their choice of solar armor or solar weapon, but I would also implement an anti-dipping mechanism of some kind. I would also improve the low-level solar weapon to 2d4 damage.

Yeah, I would expect a lot of Mystics and Solarians from them. I just like the idea of them being a more "magic" race. Alright, as far as apperances go they are loosely based off of Malfestio from Monster Hunter. They do have feathers but the majority of the "feathers" on their backs and wings are actually scales with tough membranous skin between the fingers on their wings. They arn't stuck to resembling owls though so their body shapes can go from anything to hawks to owls to any other kind of bird really.

I havn't really pinned down their society but I imagine they are a somewhat conservative yet pragmatic lot. The cloths they wear are designed not to obscure their wings (they glide in normal gravity considering their size). Females will wear vests and vails of made of shear materials while males will wear multi-colored jewlery attached to whatever harnesses they tend to wear to help them carry equipment.

As for their God, still another part I need to flesh out but I imagine they believe their Sun to be a pheonix that did not fully resurrect and became one with the sun and in it's thrashing broke off portions of itself that eventually became them.

Now I just need a good name for them.

His name is Rainier

>>
>>54915733
>What's their name?
Andromeda, but he goes by Andy because he finds his full name embarassing
>What is their role?
He's the only dedicated caster as a sorcerer but relies mostly on battlefield control and debuffing. He hasn't killed before joining the group and was responsible for killing his first actual person in the most recent session, only killing gnolls, dinosaurs, and a demon before this and is a bit conflicted over it.
>What do you like about playing them?

Half-Orc Hawkguard with a hornbow specializing in Tempest Gale to stall the PCs.

The three PCs should be able to survive them (level 3 gestalts), but they will be angrier about Orcs afterwards.

>PCs will have six weeks of downtime activity since they gained their last level

>Wild Magic event unearths Imaskari ruins
>Both mages alert their groups, and it's a race to secure the ruins between the PCs and a group of orcs and half-orcs before the main forces from both sides show up

One of the treasure the PCs find will radiate no magic, but it's an item that Velsharoon needs for his ascension from demilich to demigod.

Although going by the lore black holes are suppose to be representative of Rovagug so does that mean they can't or won't use the gravity powers of the Solarian for religious reasons.

Probably a good way to express that is that they feel they must fix an imbalance made when the manifestation maimed their god.

I'm thinking old lore old lore Werewolves from WoD where they understand the Wyrm's purpose but still feel obligated to stamp out Wyrm taint (granted this would be be their thoughts after they got over zelous and wiped out a few changing breeds in the process).

They are creatures with an anti-soul from the negative energy plane who are aggressively anti-life. Depending on the creature it just feels *cold* and you start to lose color until you die. They are just sucking the life out of you via negative energy.

So I need opinions on how bullshit this is. Basically we've been dealing with this weird eternal storm hanging over a kingdom surrounded by mountains, only two passes in or out. There have been strange mercenaries called the Wicker Men coming out of it. All normal contact why the kingdom inside had stopped a year before the storm appeared.

Fast forward we've been watching one of the massive fortresses that holds a pass. Suddenly it lights up and there is tons of activity. We sneak in to investigate. We get inside one of the bigger chambers and can hear talking when suddenly it stops and this happens:
>GM: I need a will save from all of you
>everyone rolls
>GM: Ok, paladin you're still standing, everyone else falls prone, drops anything they're holding, and are pinned
>Paladin: I try and get Wizard up
>GM: As you're doing that what looks like an Imp made of pale gray smoke and embers appears on the balcony you all are on
>Imp: The Prince of Dust, Upon the Ashen Throne graces you with his presence.
>GM: From up the stairs a pale teenage boy walks up, as you see him you feel overpowering nausea. Everyone make a fort save.
>everyone rolls, only paladin and barb pass, everyone else is nauseated now too
>the prince just sort of walks forward as the imp dances around and looks at all of us
>the prince ends down to touch the face of our investigator (a woman)
>Paladin: I lunge at him and smite evil.
>GM: Ok, initiative.
>The fight lasted two rounds before our Paladin died
>The prince just touched him and spheres of the paladin turned to dust.
>GM: After looking down at the Paladin's dissolving body the Prince's emotionless eyes fill with tears, he weeps silently without so much of a touch of the mouth. He turns to leave, the Imp with him, chuckling as he goes.
>GM: Maybe a minute later you all can move again.
>We fuck off, our wizard dimension dooring us away

The bullshit was that you didn't take the hint that this was a main badguy that you weren't powerful enough to fight ~yet~.

But yeah I don't see what the Paladin or anyone else who might've saved was meant to do there. I can only assume the gm thought he'd get you all and Dust Twink had some ~mysterious~ intention. If he wasn't going to dust the investigator then he probably could've used his god powers to stop the paladin without killing him though. Maybe the paladin has been sent to the Dust Realm and will reappear later and you'll get some explanation for this shit.

Hello there, fellow people. Are you ready for your pain to be maximized with the power of VIOLENT WORDS THAT HURT YOUR FEELINGS?

>how werk and wat do?
TL;DR - Accusation Spells places a debuff on your victim (s, there are Mass versions at higher levels) which, when in place, gives you free rein to scream such harmful verbal rape at them that they take damage from it (starting at 1d6+casting stat per scream for the lower level spells). You can use your dapper bants - aptly called Accusations - up to once per caster level. But wait, there's more! The higher level spells let you use Bluff or Intimidate checks to increase your damage, and also introduce debuffs such as shaken and sickened that say "go fuck yourself!" to the enemy's immunities, and straight up remove them (for a short while) if they can't handle your style! Did you ever really, really want to fear that paladin? Well now you can! Order now at 1-800-MAXIMIZEPAIN, and you'll get a free stab in the back! What are you waiting for? Click the damn link NOW!

>Accusation Spells and Chanting Spells 1.2 (SSDK Materials)
https://pastebin.com/BgcysupX

Incidentally, this also includes the updated version of Chanting Spells, due to all of the Accusation Spells using the Chanting descriptor in order to ensure nobody tries to do some silly shit like scream violent words at someone while also somehow being all quiet about it. The errata has been added, expanded and some needed clarifications are also around. Also you can now run around while summoning things! Nobody's happy, except that one guy who unironically plays Summoners - which means the pain is maximized for everyone else!

Go fuck yourselves, /pfg/, before someone else does it for you!

I would rather have a concrete system to do more socially with skill checks. Crush peoples' moods, make people love or hate each other, count as enemies/friends, etc. Give gamey nerds a better idea of how to manipulate a court and a more solid ground to plan-out such things on.

Casters neither need the utility or the complexity of adding insults to their spells.

Well, after considering the chance to even hit a target, I'm starting to think that it's completely dependent on the drone's ability to increase it's attack modifier.

I compared it to the enemies from First Contact, and the first feat taken is weapon focus. It looks like when taking a single shot per round against KAC, a level 1 combat drone has a 55% chance to hit space goblins, the 50% chance to hit a space pirate crewman. When the drone is level 4, it has a 35% chance to hit a CR4 Ksarick.

Since martial enemies seem to have higher KAC than EAC, you'd get ~10% bonus chance to hit them by using an energy weapon. Using a drone as a mobile grenade platform would also be more reliable although expensive.

I'm not sure if computers can be used like this, but if a drone could have their weapons fired by computers instead of themselves, you could turn a combat drone into a tank by mounting it with the appropriate equipment. At third level, a combat drone could be using a long arm as it's primary weapon, with two small arms being fired seperately by computer control. The increased attacks would help offset the low accuracy, but it'd be expensive to maintain three weapons and the computer system handling it. But I can't find a lot of information about computers in combat other than the ability to control turrets using their tier as their base attack bonus. If anyone knows where in the book I can find out more about computers, I'd appreciate it.

Meanwhile, the Exocortex can attempt to hack and shut down the environmental protections of anyone within 20ft without impacting the mechanic's turn. Having mastery of all nearby computer systems (including enemy turret systems and any non-analog weapons with overload) seems like a great ability. Also, using a move action to target an enemy and a standard action to fire an overcharged energy weapon seems like a good attack in the early levels, although it'd only be 10% more accurate than a drone attack.

Probably got it: The GM knew that most likely the Paladin (they tend to have top-notch saves) would pass, and even if he didn't then he could just pick his target regardless. Running's not going to work, simply letting the bad guy act without at least trying something is not only a terrible idea but runs contrary to pretty much every bone in most adventurers bodies, and the instant-kill ability is some custom bullshit (no damage, no save, no specific effect type, *just gone*? that's outside the system).

The encounter was deliberate bullshit with a dead paladin or investigator (but probably the paladin by directly threatening a currently helpless part of the party) very likely one of the primary goals there.

I mean, a decent chunk of the technology weapons are already published.
It's still golarion. humans and lashunti still work the same so I'm assuming all other races would too.

The classes use slightly different systems (Star's looking to be heavily better to the point that I wish Soldier would get back-ported), but they could definitely play in the same party. Hacking-based classes would be at a disadvantage but that'll happen when you go back to the past. Meanwhile, you have space weapons so you're still balanced.

Only thing you'd really need to figure out is skill system, which would be pretty easy. Know (Engin)-Craft-Disable Device = Engineering. UMD-Spellcraft = Mysticism, Etc.

For a game they wanted to make all along, they certainly had no interest in constructive criticism (from typos to abilities that simply do not work to situations and systems that are just missing from the base rules) or proper playtesting.

I think they it's the setting they wanted to write, but the mechanics were a distant afterthought.

Paizo didn't take playtesters seriously for Pathfinder either. They are and always have been awful at mechanics.

>>
>>54918407
I've always been disturbed by how much they obsess over socjus. I mean certainly what two consenting adults do in their own bedroom is none of our business, and those that go on and on about curing buttsex just don't want to admit it turns them on. But it's a far cry from that to being supposed to believe that not-pretending that guy over there is a beautiful woman or using special pronouns is somehow evil, or to pretend that any and all slavery in all its forms including debt-repayment like some romans did is always abjectly evil, or that the god of family and communities saying "could everyone just stay home and make a gosh-darned community for once" is evil because he was also including women in his complaint, or any other number of oddities in PF lands.
>>
>>54918383
ignoring or not using playtesters is what made 3.5 so janky and unbalanced compared to editions both prior and subsequent, and what led to the failure of 4e.

You'd think Paizo would learn form their competitor's mistakes, given those are what led them to success in the first place.

Because a kitchen knife being "brittle" isn't a terrible thing. You need hardness (aka 'brittleness') to have and hold an edge, you need softness to be able to take an impact without shattering. Most properly made swords (especially katanas) have a hard outer shell and a softer core. This is why you see the edges chip after impact.

In fact part of what gives katana's their curve is differential tempering. Older techniques had them insert a slightly different type of metal into the back/middle of the katana, more modern techniques partially coated the metal bar that would eventually become the finished sword in things like clay, when they were cooled they would go from being straight to curved because the metal cooled at different rates.

You also aren't smacking your knife into things or using it to block impacts, you're just using it for fairly rudimentary slicing.

There's a reason why people learned to intercept blows and parry with swords, guiding impacts away before they could do too much damage, sure it would still do some damage to your sword - but it wouldn't risk it shattering. Oh and why biiiig offhand daggers with guards (or on pirate ships offhand axes) were so common, you could use them to catch your opponents weapon and trap it (the L shape of an axe was actually quite nice for it).

I find it amusing that most often in socjus circles, those who virtue signal the hardest eg male feminists about some particular inane thing, are often the would-be biggest proponents of it.

I know that didn't parse well... so, a lot of what they spout (eg "men are just big creeps!" as a tame version) isn't necessarily true, but its a deep seated belief that they personally hold, so they're trying to make themselves seem not as bad, by projecting that on to others and then 'beating' them.

there's an absurd amount of male feminists that have been ousted as legitimate sex offenders/rapists. and that's not even getting started on crazy shit like pedophilia

But yeah, paizo gets a lot of things wrong, because they absolutely hate the idea of nuance and they just *have* to virtue signal.
>>

>>54918407

>go out of their way to say the sex change potion is permanently and not dispelable so no evil wizard can untransition you I guess
>of the scant dozen odd gods mentioned they give the sex god a little write up for whatever reason
>one species on one planet has seven genders

>>
>>54918551
Not super familiar with starfinder, but aren't the lashunta who used to be sexually dimorphic now "in ye olden times it male children were forced to be male adults, and female children were forced to be female adults. Now that we're in le modern progressive era, regardless of their sexparts they can choose to be male / female adults".

Basically a 'haha fuck the gender binary' type gotcha virtue-signal for the "genderfluid"/"genderqueer".
>>
>>54918551

Sex change potions being literally so butt cheap you could give it to kids like candy
Arshea, or just god choices in general, heck you could include Iomedaddy too
>>
>>54918575

The way it is described in Starfinder, both male and female lashuntas can become either sub-species upon reaching sexual maturity; in past eras, men were usually one, and females usually the other, primarily due to environmental factors more than anything else. Once it was discovered that this could be manipulated through outside factors, meditation, and drugs, it became a lot more useful to see what subspecies you needed more of this generation and 'suggest' the upcoming Lashunta go mostly one way or the other depending on the race's needs.

I'm only seeing 10+2x ship tier, which would be max 50, and those are all on Stunts, which, yeah, it's gonna be hard getting a 1000 point armored like an Abrams tank Independence Day Mothership to turn on a dime like it's a skateboard. Everything but Dreadnaught size (200), maximum armor for that size (300), fastest drift engine for that size (140), and best computer (200) cost less than 100. Most less than 20. Which still leaves us at a mere 840 of 1000.

Vortex weapons have a 15+1.5xShip tier DC, but that's even lower at, 45DC.

Since it's honestly pretty difficult to even get a ship that expensive without at some point purchasing the computer system that gives a +10, which means really your effective DC is 40, 38 if you have the slower thrusters that turns better.
Expected to be attempted by what is at earliest an 18th level character, because as the book states, things higher than 2+level aren't assumed to be available to you.

Or, for a comparable check from the more familiar pathfinder for reference, getting this 15,000ft, 70,000 metric ton behemoth to pull a screeching halt and swivel 180 degrees for a flip and burn over the course of 6 seconds, with computer assistance, is the same as moving at full speed across an ice-covered 2inch walkway during an earthquake.
Which seems about right to me. Those are pretty equivalent challenges.

closer to "it turns out this species's severe sexual dimorphism wasn't actually related to sex so much as societal pressures during puberty."

Or, transferred into SJW jargon, "what they assumed to be biological sex differences turned out to just be gender role differences. When roles became less segregated by sex, the forms followed."

Tier is the ship's level, not it's size or necessarily even complexity sometimes. In other words if you upgrade, say, your shield generator, whether your engines got more responsive or stayed exactly the same doesn't matter: If you wanted to dodge and avoid free shots against your movement it's DC 15+2xTier (so 55 max). Sure that sounds reasonable on a supercarrier, except your fighter's got the same fucking DC.

Let's say you want to encourage a crewmember. The DC is solely determined by what ship you both are on. Diplomacy check is 15+Tier, so 35 to give a +2 to ensign-fuckface as he tries to operate the turbolift without dying.

You can grant one additional (but it has to be a different one) action to a gunner by spending one resolve point and rolling a DC 10+3xTier. That's right. DC 70 on a level 20 ship. SEVENTY. We're in "that one build able to climb into people's anuses with escape artist" difficulty here.

And it doesn't matter, it doesn't MATTER IN THE FUCKING LEAST if you don't use those points. Because the ship's tier automatically goes up with the party level. It's based on APL. When you'll have the chance to use those build points or even just choose not to is an entirely separate affair: party levels up, every DC goes up by 2 or 3.

Wait so if you are level 20, the DC is for improving the turn radius is 55 no matter if you're in a level 20 dreadnought with all 1000 points used up, or in the same 55-point landing shuttle the party started with? And 55 in that TIE fighter the operative hijacks because he's level 20?

WTF?

how the hell has paizo been publishing for this many years and they put out as unpolished a thing as the solarion. there are so few meaningful and decent choices. "new system so let's just repeat errors 3.x got wrong originally that we had to patch out last time."
>>
>>54918777
If it's 4750 then they've grown a lot in the effective 333 years since modern, because I'm assuming nothing progressed significantly during the Gap.

Because they had to have an established offworld presence in order to survive the removal of homeworld.
>>
>>54919360
All of those things are shit we're finding in our first readthrough. It's not "white room theorycrafting with years of numbercrunching behind it" like they'll probably claim.

"10+3*20 = 70" is goddamn blatant.
>>
>>54919269
>>54919349
They already fixed this once with skills when they went from 3.5 to PF (giving a flat+3 to trained instead of that whole half scaling mess).

Then they go ahead and reintroduce it to the system.

I'm internally screaming here. They don1t have the slightest fucking clue about system design.

Do you have advice for roleplaying a character who lives a double life? I'm asking here because Pathfinder has the Vigilante base class, but I wouldn't necessarily be using (or even able to use) it.
>>
>>54919272
That sounds like a great idea. What class should I play? Avowed?

Also how loudly should I beep while having sex. There's no point in being a beep unless I can also be a saucy tart.

any word on the adventure path yet?

>>54919405
>What class should I play? Avowed?

Agathion-blooded Aasimar are +Con +Cha, so Avowed would work reasonably well! As for your spoiler, do what feels right in that scene, there shouldn't be a "default" level of beep for something like that.
>>
>>54919370
Why would you assume that? The Gap was not a period of "nothing happened", it was a period of "apparently someone decided to wipe everything that happened from history". A bunch of things happened during the gap, judging by the number of conflicts that had erupted or otherwise changed between pathfinder era and after gap era.

0 AG is not "when the gap ended", it's "when the gods(?) hit the FORGET button". We don't know exactly how long of a wipe it was, but it was several centuries. And besides Golarion disappearing, there is bound to have been quite a few things happening during it; what we do now of the PF era is that Absalom Reckoning lasts for "nearly 5 millennia" until the Gap hits, at which point we know nothing anymore. Thus, anywhere in between AR 4717 and 4999 can be the start of the Gap, which is the "period of time we have no records of".

>>
>>54919268
I feel like this issue here is ship tier being based on APL.
The tarrasque of a dreadnaught being a pain to handle makes sense.
A freighter, but with the egregious amount of bells and whistles it would take to cost the same as that dreadnaught being a nuisance, makes sense.
An enemy's bare bones fighter being easy to handle makes sense.

That same enemy fighter becoming as difficult to handle as your dreadnaught the moment you hijack it, or even your own fighter mimicing their specifications, is when things get stupid.

Perhaps they should have said "your ship's maximum tier" is equal to APL instead of just "your ship's tier"?
>>
>>54919403
That depends on the kind of double life.

Are we talking about the kind of double life where a guy "travels for business" and has two separate families he keeps secret from one another?

A highly successful intellectual property lawyer who also runs a neo-Nazi record company and keeps the two halves of his life distinctly separate?

Or are we talking about a mild-mannered blacksmith by day who puts on a mask and punches evildoers by night?
>>
>>54919529
Very very little is covered there:
For encounters, use the highest tier and every extra ship on the PCs side adds +1 to the effective APL for the challenge design. If the ships are more than 2 tiers below the highest though you add them all up together and if the total is equal or higher to the highest tier ship on that side, you add 1 to the value.
>>
>>54919403
Legendary Vigilantes always has Exposed Vigilante if you'd prefer to only have one identity.
>>
>>54919624
It's also where things that should be getting easier instead get harder. The captain's become more experienced, so he's literally less able to give orders than before, even on the same ship. The Chief Engineer gained a level, so repairs just got harder to do than they were before. Sure his rank went up by 1, with another +1 every 2-3 levels but the DC went up by 2 every level so his chance of succeeding slowly diminishes.

Right. and that's 33 years.
then 300 years after the Gap.

And all records lost between then and now, meaning all progress made during the gap was lost. Why burn alexandria when you can just burn the entire planet then mindwipe the galaxy?

So that would mean that from the point where any records still exist, i.e. things of the past they got to retain, to the point where they pick back up, only 333 years has passes.

If they had developed spacetech DURING the Gap, then they would have forgotten how it works, and been left floundering. No total amnesiac with nothing to work with but medieval manuscripts is ever gonna figure out how to run space stations and build starships.

Which means they either developed VERY quickly in the span of 33 years, probably by scavenging Numerian ruins, or still pretty dang quickly in the span of 300, though the Triune certainly helped matters, or were part way there after AG0a, recovered their secrets after AG0b and finished what they started, which is still only a total 333.

Sheep are very dumb animals and only really useful for their wool, she'd be skittish and ditzy but a "hugger" and very open to helping people out.

I'm toying with the idea of her being somewhat self sacrificing celestial pact avowed and not afraid to get bloodied, in a sort of role reversal of the lamb. She's there to fight for the flock, provide for them and protect them. I'm more fond of the dark skinned version as it seems a bit more spunky

I don't really like this image. Too anthro.

It's a pretty central point of the Gap that people didn't forget how their stuff worked, only why they were doing it and what had happened before last Tuesday. It's a cute attempt but utterly your argument is full of shit, anon.

I'm just interested in the vague idea of having a double life. I don't have a specific character concept I'm trying to flesh out (yet). So heck, why not tell me about all of those? The weirdo with two families, the secret subversive, the superhero who roughs up thugs without caring about the fact that he's doing so in Middle-Earth?

Exactly, and that means it's possible to find planets which contain accurate records of the past well into the Gap, making exploration in the name of archaeology a viable profession.
