So I've always wondered, whats /tg/'s opinion on Fallen London and the Sunless Sea?
And if your in a generous mood, any advice how to setup a good campaign in rolld20 with Fallen London as the setting/theme?
Cool setting.
Do Trail of Cthulhu or World of Darkness as your system. The game needs to be super fatal, but be sure to give your players heads up if they are going to dangerous places until they become more familiar with the setting.
Between Echo Bazaar and Sunless Sea you will have plenty of resources to draw upon for images and even lines for setting descriptions.
Excellent storytelling, somewhat mediocre game mechanics.
If you want to run a game in it, either choose a specific premise within the world and fit something to that, or go for something loose and narrativist like FATE.
There are two schools of thought on running it. One is doing extensive wiki research and reading to be accurate, the other is more focusing on the theme and style of the setting, making your own story and adapting it to your needs, capturing the feel rather than trying to be accurate.
One of the most original settings I've ever come across. The writing is excellent, in fact it's so good that I would struggle to capture the atmosphere as a DM.

Agreed - desu, the candle mechanic and a lack of Kingdom-of-Loathing style "these are where you left off from your current quests" stuff really kills it.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think I've got some basic direction for it now. I'm going sit on this for a bit, I agree that its got really great atmosphere and though that is my strong-suit as a dm i'm going to take my time to make sure i do it justice.

It's an annoying mechanic, but I dunno how the game would work without it.
It made it a requirement to return to safe waters occasionally, instead of just exploring wildly until you'd run out of things to do.

I like the setting a lot, but there's an exasperating shortage of details in the actual Fallen London game, and I also find it really grindy.

If you google "fallen London fate roleplaying", you'll find some FATE resources that people have already made. I know the subject has come up on /tg/ before, so the archives might also help.

I lke the settings weirdness despite it being on earth
The Warrens Folley threads from a few months ago are a really good start to understand the developing the atmosphere in Fallen London.
