Reposting from last thread

Did some dirty number crunching, and here's what I came up with for discounts in the new boxes

Warherds is a 25% discount
Slaves to darkness is a 23% discount
Daughters of khaine is 26%
Battle wizards is 33%
Spiderfang 30%
Gargants 30%
Deathrattle 27%
Nighthaunt 27%

So the wizards are the best deal, and the slaves to darkness is the worst
>>
>>54893593
DoK box hurts me so much. I really hoped for a lower-than-sc price and this shit edns up even more expensive. I know it has great value but c'mon - some start collecting boxes are even better discount
>>
>>54893662
Preach, I was hoping those models would finally be worth buying. They're gorgeous, just not 80 Canuck bucks for a set of 10
>>
>>54893662

I guess that scratches them off my potent is lost, then. I run a wych cult in 40k and wanted to do one in Fantasy/AoS for a long time, but the price kept me at bay. This helps, but only so much.
>>
>>54893569
Those new undead boxes are right solid.

How good an army makes one of those and the relevant Start Collecting, points wise?

Deathrattle 40
Nighthaunt 32,50

>>54894636
How would you like to use an Ironfist battalion with non-ironjawz units? You asked if IJ are a faction on their own - yes, they are. Both in 1000pts and 2000pts games you can use a pure-IJ army and win. Sure you are basing your army mainly on megaboss and brutes but you can also use ardboys as well. They are a really "simple" faction but still fun and playable on their own
>>
>>54894474
They are fine / great on their own, but can splash a useful ranged unit ally if need be.

My current list is properly retarded:

1 Megaboss on Maw Krusha with Ravager and Talisman
1 Megaboss on foot with Brew
4 Orruk Warchanters

25 Brutes
>>
>>54894772
oh right, it's an ironfist!
>>
>>54894393
Alot of stuff, as there is a lot of missing stuff. We mostly need new editors to help write new articles, upload the unit art, maps and stuff like that. Properly sourced of course.

I would specially like someone to focus on the Kharadron Overlords since that's the one that will have more information about how the faction works on the civilian side.

The best of course would be getting the lore from the Grand Alliance books for each faction(around two pages each) on their respective faction pages, like this one

or any info found on the product description or warscrolls like these:
>https://www.games-workshop.com/resources/PDF/AoS_Warscrolls/aos-warscroll-kairic-acolytes-en.pdf

Specially if anybody can go over the warscrolls and collect the items they wear, wield or ride into battle on these pages.

What are my answers as Moonclan for fighting the stronger more bulkier creatures like heroes on monsters, big giant monsters (Daemon Prince) or the big bulky infantry like Ironjawz or Ogors?

Talking from a Moonclan view. I know netters combined with a strongarm like Troggoths sound good on paper. I also intend to use a Rock Lobber. But what is my "Got to kill that thing NOW!" choice? Fanatics?

>>
>>54895280
You focus fire with whatever shooting you have (warmachines, boss prodder, bows if you took them(don't they're a trap)). you use your fanatics to block their charges and hold them in place and deal some heavy hits. You get your troggoths and a block of at least 40 grots to charge the fucks and drown them in attacks. If you think you can get your boss out unscathed, you have him get in there too. Grot warbosses can hit surprisingly hard.
>>
>>54895280
The spear chucka is the best grot artillery in general even without its +1 to hit vs heroes. Mangler squigs and fanatics have -2 rend attacks and do good damage but are glass cannons.

If you want some mortal wounds, take shamans, cave squigs or nasty skulkers.
>>
>>54895488
Thanks. Assuming I replace the bows, as you said were crappy, with two shamans blasting them to oblivion with a Bad Moon curse in between, would that be adequate?

>fanatics to block their charges and hold them in place

Since Fanatics now come in units of 3 (not a big deal), should I liberally and recklessly throw them in front of the opponent if they are very near charge range or am I better trying to gauge using them in my own charge phase?

>40 Grots

Oh god my wallet is going to kill me but I'll see what I can pull off!
>>
>>54895551
I didn't know that about Spear Chuckas. I've come back to Warhammer up till very recently, since 6th in fact I haven't played. So I thought Divers and Lobbers were my answer.

Maybe I could squeeze in a Chucka with my lobber? Not sure how viable that is.
>>
>>54895328
Is the price point the same as the others?
>>
>>54895577
Grot artillery get buffed when they are in pairs. Having just one of each wouldn't be very good.

You should read up on the rules and wait for the new general's handbook just in case more grot nerfs are incoming.
>>
>>54895565
If you feel your opponent is about to make a devastating charge, drop those fanatics. If they make their charge, even if they die, your opponent's momentum is gone and any benefit they would have on the charge is lost.
Adding to >>54895551 Mangler squigs make excellent wrecking balls and usually will be targeted first because most people's first instinct is kill the big bitey thing. Drop your warboss's I'm Da Boss, Now Stab Em Good on either them or your fanatics for some outrageous nonsense.
>>
>>54895691
I don't think the current nerfs we have seen are too bad (Squig Boss was already eh and Fanatics been in 3 means more reserved use but still nuke things). As of now I am mainly waiting to see if Troggoths get a price fix.

>>54895637
As far as I know the box set they come should be at a slightly reduced price than to if you bought then individually.
>>
>>54894654
You're joking, right? The WHFB picture is technically far superior. There's a lot of good things about this game but the art is not one of them.

That said, old WHFB art is the best stuff GW has ever produced by a longshot. Most of the 7th to 8th Ed stuff was nowhere near as good.
>>
>>54895867
To be fair to that anon, that Goblin and Dwarf art never really did it for me. I think most of the good art is sadly hidden in the very old rulebooks. Like 5th edition Vampire Counts.

I don't know any of the artist names sadly but I meant pic related. It was nitty, gritty and a bit rough around the edges. But it had soul. That story too of the poor peasant getting ambushed and eaten alive by the naked ghoul woman was just spectacular as well. The passion resonated from the art to the pages.

Post 6th edition and even some in 7th edition up until even the ET, I felt Warhammer Fantasy just got dry. That Dwarf and Goblin art above included. Not that all of it, there was still some decent art, but in my view It lost its soul I feel (though to be fair GW went through a long dry spell). Frankly, I don't know what drives most of the more passionate Fantasy lovers who feel so scorned. I too hated how the old setting was unceremoniously killed off and swooped from our feet and replaced with something which was little like it. But goddamn that setting had hit a brick wall.

We still have a lot of our favourite races renamed to well, some odder than other, different names in a very unfamiliar setting. But reading some of the new Fantasy fluff, it sniffed off some of the one upman ship of 40k. So while the setting was kept in check, the narrative quality was a bloody mess.

Why I referred to the art in my post where the real soul remained.
>>
>>54896079

Anyone have it?

>>
>>54896204

>>
>>54896224
Thought Carnac was harrassing the 40k chaos threads. But ya the other generals are more active so ask about.
>>
Wanderers feel very bland compared to Wood Elves. Am I wrong? What makes an army of Glade Guard more interesting/better than an army of other archers?
>>
>>54896640
I feel like a battletome would help them by miles, but that doesn't seem to be likely anytime soon.

They are getting some allegiance abilities in GHB 2.0, which may help, but it's not going to be on par with the army abilities in the Sylvaneth/Stormcast/Tzeentch tomes. Which i a shame, because Wanderers are one of, if not the, army(/ies) I really want to play.
>>
>>54896640
Yeah the neglected subfactions are pretty Wild West right now. You can read the novels to search for inspiration, but for the most part when it comes to them aos is "your dudes" the setting, and you need your own headcannon to get excited about
>>

So for some reason God decided to give me some luck and found SIB Tomb Kings at a store in the middle of nowhere and they're still with the original prices. Decided to build a little 1000p list with what I found and liked and here it is.

>3x Sepulchral Stalkers
>1x Necrosphinx

I know the necropolis knights are better but I honestly like the idea of having lots of constructs and I'll expand with Ushabti later.
I was thinking about using the sphinx as a general to give it Red Fury.
Would that work? And if looks a little cheesy, at our store we actually play a lot of small points games with one big center piece and some little heroes/units around so it's not unusual to see Stonehorns, Zombie Dragons, Mawkrushas etc.

Anyone happy with the send off Skarsnik got? Despite poor Gobbla dying, Skarsnik "vanishing" into the Mountains with his army I felt was a nice conclusive ending and I like to imagine he is in the new Great Green with Gork and Mork. Plus his legacy living on with now a host of other Goblins with magic prodders and giant squigs, seems neat way to wrap him up.

The Nurgle SC is $142.80 MSRP, Ironjawz is ~$145, a lot of other SC boxes are ~$135. There is no reason to make the KoD box more expensive than other Start Collecting boxes

>>
>>54906112
ive never really looked at DOK until last night and I found some pretty good synergy there

everything gets a 6+ ignore from being near a cauldron, which is pretty good

cauldron can also buff a unit to give it +1 to wound rolls and reroll wound1, which makes your basic units have 2-3 attacks each @ 3+/3+

sisters of slaughter are 6+ save but get +2 to saves in combat phase, and every time they roll a 6 or more to save they do a mortal wound back to the attacking unit

give them mystic shield to give them another +1 to saves, which means any save roll of 3 or more (before Rend) does a mortal wound

bring some Sisters of the Thorn as allies and you can reroll those saves

from what ive seen they dont look too bad? not top tier but we dont know what their allegiance abilities are, and it seems like they can only get better from there

You can take a Warpforged Blade with a War Halberd. Either a Barbed Blade+Halberd, Dual Barbed Blade or 1 Warpforged Blade.

Obviously, with the new GBH around the Corner I might revise this list. Maybe go 'Pure Skryre' and ally in 40 clanrats. Im only left with a slight point deficit, if only Jezzails had decent models I could perfect that list.

My opponents are kinda wizening up at this point. So it's a bit more difficult to get value out of them. On the other hand, having all those threats helps a lot since every warmachine and wizard is kinda scary to them. Rat Ogres are the tits by the way, havent gotten a lot of mileage out of the packmaster, but with 4 I can see him being a decent force amplifier.

The SC! boxes mostly haven't sold. They've had SC! Slaanesh, SC! Pestilens, SC! Fyreslayers, SC! Stormcast, SC! Skeletons, and SC! Slaves to Darkness sitting there for as long as they've been out. Actually, skirmish changed everything. My playgroup had ~7 active players, now we have 14 - my gf included. She liked Aos before and played few games with me but now it's so much easier to just grab 10 models and beat the shit out of opponent dudes

A friend of mine wants to start a Skirmish force, but isn't sure what to build. If we start playing Skirmish regularly, we might get more people interested, since a Skirmish-sized force is a lot cheaper to build.
>>
>>54908698
Most start collecting boxes is ready to play skirmish warband. New deathrattle and nighthaunt boxes are good warbands on their own. Even the starter set is fine - for khorne warband you have a Bloodsecrator and plenty of bloodreavers and warriors and for SCE you can pick a Relictor and slap some liberators and retributors.
The KoD is also fine but it's too expensive imo - as a new player that wants to give the game a try I wouldn't pick it desu
Just let him pick whatever she/he finds looking cool and that's it.
>>
>>54908853
He likes Skaven and Nurgle, and his favorite clan is Skyre.
>>
>>54908327
haha sorry I meant is it painted with Skarsnik Green paint (GW)? I have like nine goblin regiments I'm getting ready to paint. I agree that it is a great kit - it's amazing comparing older sprues to new ones though and seeing how much wasted space there used to be - an old goblin box has like eight separate frames in it
>>
>>54908918
I bet you know how easy to run and idiot-proof are Nurgle Daemons - two start collecting boxes are better than fine to start an army (they are precisely 500pts each) and nurgle daemons are really easy to paint. With so many nurgle releases in 40k it's just a matter of time until we will see some new nurgle daemons. Also Nurgle Start Collecting has enough models to build a 70 renown warband so it's more than enough to play a skirmish campaign.
Skaven Pestilens gonna get new allegiance abilities in GHB17 and they already have some synergy with Nurgle Daemons.
IMO it's a right direction for him, you just have to point him all pros and cons of these factions. There is no bad pics picks in AoS as long as you choose your dudes instead of waacfagging
>>
>>54908918
Skaven and Skryre are great fun and quite versatile for Skirmish. Having access to both Stormvermin and Clanrats is quite handy. However, since skryre acolytes are old and expensive mini's you're kinda dependant on weapon teams to get that cheap skaven flavor. And those are not sold individually either...
>>
>>54909371
How are clanrats handy in skirmish? I have plenty of them but as separate one-model units they seem to be shitty warriors
>>
>>54896901
You sure is dollar food or US because coming from smoke one who has recently accumulated a 2000 list of pure DoK, that's a great deal, the CoB is 80 on its own, you're basically getting the witches for free, don't forget you get 3 characters in there (medusa technically isn't one).

>>54909945
Spire of Dawn is a good source of skaven models. It costs a little bit more than any start collecting box and he can sell the aelvish half for 50% of box price and square bases for something like 20% so it ends up to be a cheap as fuck. The SoD has some skyre units - thrower team, mortar team and warlock engineer. Stormfiends are tough fuckers usable in skirmish - he should pick a one box at least.
The wheel is fuckin amazing - I have not use it yet but it looks so neat I just had to buy it

I guess we'll see what happens to them with GHB2. The ability to moonwalk out of combat seems alright I guess, but I don't see them ever surviving combat anyway unless I'm missing something. I played massed Glade guard in fantasy and won by out maneuvering my opponent. My army was heavy on GG, Scouts, and Waywatchers with some Dryads and Treekin and then 3 Hawks with an eagle for backlines.

>>54896753
The lack of fluff is really kind of off-putting. Like, I get rebooting the world. It's hardly the first time it's happened to a setting, but I can't think of any other game where they basically made everything so vague they might as well have written nothing. I don't even know where to start with Headcannon because like I said before, even as an army they look and feel totally bland. It's kinda sad

I agree with you're second point to an extent, but I think the vagueness is to help formulate you're own story, until they get around to actually writing more fluff for the specific faction.
Out of the 6 factions I play disposessed which has been my favourite since day 1 of sigmar considering I started them in end times and just put them on round bases. I really like the teasers for their abilities and magic items not just because they are great but the little fluff blurb on each ability just gets me so pumped for more...I have a good feeling that each faction will play a part in someway in the future, they have a lot of work to do considering they are churning out new stuff, they are defiantly getting around to the old stuff though

As far as durability goes, Eternal Guard are really tanky fuckers around when in cover. Plop Sisters of the Watch behind them to provide cover fire and force the enemy to engage the EG.
Beyond that you get Wildwood Rangers that will chop the dick off of any monster stupid enough to remain in their range and Gladeguard are a rare shooty horde. Sisters of the Thorn have a really damn nice spell and a good statline while your heroes can help tailor your army to certain playstyles or plug gaps in your setup.
Only Wild Riders are garbage. Don't bother with them.
>>
>>54910912
Yea, I guess. I was just really attached to the idea of a bunch of elves in the woods running around with bows fighting unconventional warfare with the best archers in the land. They were that way in the lore, and they felt that way on the table top. I'm looking at their stuff now, and don't see ANY of that anymore. They're elves that walk around a lot and aren't actually that special at anything, at least not with their bows.

>>54911061

So basically my fears are correct? I literally own 0 of every model that you mentioned besides Gladeguard, and even then, I never wanted to run them as a horde, which is what High Elf archers were. Actually, HE archers and GG are exactly the same now save for their ability, which is similar in function. If I wanted to play them, I'd have to buy a whole new army anyway from the sounds of it. I'm not trying to complain, btw, I'm just trying to be real here. If I have to sell/trade them then so be it. It seems they just aren't even moderately close to what Wood Elves were in lore and function.

100% sure sylvaneth and wanderers will be allies so if you want to take it up to higher point games, get treeman allies later on or the sylvaneth start collecting

>>
>>54911153
You will need Gladeguard anyway, so might as well start with them. They only have one trick, really, but it is a good trick. Their special arrows allow them to utterly savage a unit early on, so make sure to use that on something worthwhile.
The Nomad Prince is your most flexible hero. He can brawl, he can shoot, he's tough (for an elf) and he has a neat buff. I rarely leavy house without him.
Sisters of the Thorn are great harassers and can lay claim to one of the top 3 spells in the game. Casting that on Eternal Guard in cover is a warcrime.
It's a good selection. You'll want Eternal Guard and Sisters of the Watch soon. Wildwood Rangers and another hero, while cool, are not as required.

>>54911144
They are still for the most part a elite ranged force, just different. Glade Guard are less impressive (outside their trickshot) individually, but the Sisters of the Watch are nasty, you have some of the shootiest heroes in the game and most of your tactics centre around shooting and how to stall your opponent in some way to shoot more.
>>
>>54911336

>>54911404
>Casting that on Eternal Guard in cover is a warcrime
So how do I use them? What is their role in Wanderers forces?
>Wildwood Rangers and another hero, while cool, are not as required
I thought that Rangers might be useful and stabby enough even against non-monster units in skirmish
>>
>>54911528
Well, you can at least be sure there's only Nurgle and Primaris Marines coming in the near future.
>t. Marine player
>>
>>54911557
You use them to anchor your shooting lines. Hide in cover with something juicy behind them to force the enemy to engage them. I like SotW for this job, as both units gain a bonus when not moving. Once the opponent has engage them, they can knuckle down with a rerollable 3+ save and a solid melee profile while the sisters blast the poor fuckers to smithereens. When you cast shield of thorns on them every save of 4+ deals a mortal wound to the attacker, which quickly racks up a lot of damage.
Wildwood rangers have a good elite profile on their weapons, so they deliver on the punchy, but they aren't durable at all, so they need some finesse in their application.

>>54911744

Again, it seems that I'll have to essentially buy a new army. Like, I think between my scouts and Glade guard, I'm pushing 70 GG models. Maybe even 80. I'd have to count my models when I get home, but from the sounds of it, they're extremely mediocre outside of a single round of shooting. Sisters of the Watch, Eternal Guard, Rangers, ect are all really good supposedly, and I have none of them. Therefore, I'd essentially be buying an entirely new army, so my concern is that if Wood Elves are really nothing like they used to be, why not just start a new army? Serious question btw. I want to want to play them, but they don't seem to have the same appeal.

yeah "free" except you have to pay 25$ more.

There're are no reason any of these box should be more expensive than a SC. If this was 85$ then yes I agree the Witches are free. It's not like GW won't profit by selling it for 85$. See Fyreslayer SC!, would you believe the Magmadroth actually worth 115$ before GW cut the price?

While I loved Milton Bradly Heroquest way back when, and GW Advanced Heroquest, though I missed out on the original Warhammer Quest, and honestly I thought Silver Tower was really cool, the group I played it with didn't.

They had huge problems with cooperative games, and they took huge issue with the speed and pacing of the game, with the monster behavior tables being a big culprit along with the one-at-a-time player turns, meaning after a player spends their dice they might have 20 minutes before they got to go again.

To tell the truth, I kind of want to finish painting and basing all my silver tower models then sell the complete game and models to someone who might have a group more open to those kinds of games. I'd be a shame to see it go like that, but right now it is just taking up space in my closet.

You have basically have a perfectly solid starting force for Wanderers, so I don't really see the problem? 2 units of 30 Gladeguard each provide ample firepower for a start.
Throw in the Warhawk Riders and the Waywatchers (both units are still perfectly legal even though they aren't produced anymore) you mentioned and you just need a hero to throw around some buffs.
Beyond that you'll need new units, sure, but that's always how it goes, isn't it?

Here's a list made with what you said you have and some assumptions made towards your hero selection. While not outright broken, this is a lot of powerful shots turn one and a still fairly serious damage volume from then on out.
Delete fast elements on the double, harass enemy warmachines with your warhawk riders and be prepared to feed a small unit to the wolves to buy time for more important units to retreat and resume shooting.

>>
>>54918931
Let's just hope its a special character kinda deal in a full nurgle release. I couldn't stomach a full new warrior chamber.
>>
>>54918927
:/
That's not that bad, I guess....
>>
>>54918878
he's unique (one per army)

I'm surprised he's unique though, could have let stormbabies buy multiple
>>
>>54918952
the AZYRHEIM ASSASSINS would be a good blood bowl team name
>>
>>54918949
Necrotects are only gopd if you have a few catapults, aside from that its better to just get a tomb king for buffmeistering shenanigans
>>
>>54919243
Necrotects are useful for much more than catapults

I run a necrotect and 0 catapults

Who the fuck do you ever find people to play 10k points with? Also let me buy some of your shit.
>>
>>54919318
Years of collecting undead egyptians lead to that, weather or not i play a 10k point game is not the issue
