This is boris. He was instakilled at full hp by the DM with no rolls or saving throws. He was too young to die
Why do DMs do this? DM anger thread
boris sounds like an NPC. DM should have free reign when it comes to killing NPCs if it adds to the story. The aged barkeep has a heart attack? Instant death, no save. The queen is being held hostage by an assassin at knife point and dumbass players charge in? Automatic hit unless magically disabled, queen is at -8 hp regardless of health or stats.

Let's hear the story.

When will they learn

Give us the deets, OP, so that we may judge your DM.
Had a Bullywog bard who used a flute that was decapitated by an Arch Demon type monster because we took too long to figure out how to defeat him.

Rest in peace, Boris. May the dice be kinder next time around.

Because they're DMs and not GMs.

this is where we find out that a 1st level Boris did something so colossally retarded that regardless of outcome, he'd die anyway, and as such the DM decided to just not roll.
But at the same time, I've met some of the DM's from /tg/ and many of them were the "proud to have killed players" type.
Our party was leading a group of insurgents and one of the leader personal guards was behaving totally not shadily.
So, we decide to bait it out, have our characters single out the wrong guard, the wrong guard gets jailed, and the traitor is guarding alone the noble's chambers.
The traitor goes for traitor things, gets ambushed, and ends all tied up nicely and ready to be sent to the rape chambers.
Of course we try to get some intel out of him, but he suddenly tries to stand up, trips, hits his head and dies between seizures.
No cyanide pill, no biting his tongue off, no self immolation, no turning into a bizarre vessel of the corruption gods, no. Just hits his head and dies
I would've taken any other way out, but that was as bullshit as it gets
