Well, if the setting is already fucked, I guess this can't fuck it any more. One of the Unearthed Arcana releases had a spell-less Ranger variant that might work, or just go Thunder Cannon Artificer.

Are you starting at 1st lvl? I remember doing something similar, but we started at 5th and each of us got to choose one enchanted item.
I had a big ass crossbow with basically infinite range a la marvellous Chester.

Antimatter rifle does 6d8 damage.
Exitus Rifle would do like 4d8 then cause it's a great murder weapon.
