Well it depends on the setting I guess. If Androids are rare and you have awoken recently, you can literally have a blank slate and progress from there. An android learning how "to be". Or are androids suppressed and are the cliche slave race? "I am sentient, I am alive, we deserve rights." Or are androids the norm? Then you can literally have any normal background I suppose.

Well it looks like Mythic RotRL is the favored son here. If I did end up running it (which is a big if, considering I've never GMed before) it wouldn't reach the power level of WotR and the PCs would gain tiers fairly slowly, maybe maxing out at 6-ish.

Rough idea for Ctarl-Ctarl race in SF:

For the Beast Form, a 1/day ability mechanically similar to a PF barbarian's Rage, plus gaining increased unarmed damage.

Is the lack of a consistent economy the biggest flaw in Starfinder?

Grenades seem to be extremely expensive, Serums are vastly preferable to Medkits despite being requiring no skill and being re-useable, Batteries have weird mechanics prone to abuse, Starships are straight up left out of the purview of credits because they couldn't make them work.

Should we just re-write the entire section relating to cash, gear and ships?

Here's a method to think about: Dex already gives you AC, Ref, ranged attacks and with finesse you can use it for melee. That is the method: You are already using the super stat of the game. Eating two feats is not a big deal considering how neutered STR is.

I was honestly surprised that - of all things - they actually thought of this... ... for ship ammo. Read the bit on limited use weaponry; it outright states that you regenerate the LU stuff outside of combat. Which makes sense when you've got matter-transmission and nanofabber technology.

Also explains why no ammo limit on things like coilguns and high energy usage on gatlings; clearly part of the weapon is an ammo generator, churning out fresh little metal bits nearly as fast as you can fire them, as opposed to complex things like nuclear fucking missiles which take... about ten minutes.


In regards to the economy, what they should have done if they wanted to keep it separate was use an influence system like Fragged Empire, or a requisition system like the good'ol Rogue Trader game (fuck yeah profit factor). This would allow people to deal in the costs within certain limits; You can still buy and sell, but it's not loose change; anyone involved in selling a fucking battleship deals in invoices and service contracts.

What it would have thus represented is the ability to cover - through whatever means, often organizations backing you - not only a purchase but the upkeep, feedstocks, maintenance, software updates, licences, berthing fees and exotic materials that all go into making that yacht-in-space so quick and easy to repair and fly out anywhere.

Likewise, they could have avoided numerous pitfalls of WBL like the grenade issue by simply making it a factor in this as well.

You could make it a nanofabrication bay. Can produce staggering numbers of weapons quickly but they fall apart in a week or so due to all the corners that need to be cut/imperfections in the design. The original use was to allow a militia to very quickly have access to whatever weapons it needs but it soon became popular with adventurers, who are rarely engaged in long protracted battles.

That + Buy a Blueprint for the bay (To add more options to it)
