So I have a Grymkin army for Hordes and I'm going to convert them to have a Bloodborne look.

I'm going to take pic related and turn their pumpkin heads into giant masses of eyeballs.

Any other ideas for conversion ideas?
>>
>>54756459

Bloodborne is real hot for trenchcoats, robes, and shades of grey so that would be my advice to add. The Winter Lanterns wore robes if I remember correctly.

WIP Sorcerer on Jump Pack. The basing isn't finished and highlights need to be applied, but otherwise how's he look?
>>
>>54756858

He looks okay, but he needs more definition. You should do a (very thin) highlight pass on the gold with silver, and crank up another shade of grey on the blackest parts of the armor. Right now it's pretty undefined. Case in point: can't even see the teeth on the central pack buckle without zooming in really.

It's a solid start you just have to take it a little further.
>>
Looks a bit better with a basecoat but I think at some point I'll just buy the Manticore kit
>>
>>54756928
In my defense the lighting where I live is really shitty, the gold looks brighter under normal circumstances.
>>
>>54757032

Sure but cranking up the contrast is rarely a bad thing. Did you ink wash it?
>>

>>
>>54757053
A bit of Nuln Oil here and there, even the thinnest coats of Auric Armor Gold are too bright for my taste otherwise.

There isn't much to do other than simple asthetic choices like putting a gloss over the larger metallic parts, maybe a few blast marks, some battle wear.
Overall, though, you did an excellent job, the red does look a touch thick, but it is still a good first time job. You've got a knack for it for certain.

Yeah, the only real camera I've is my fucking ancient smartphone camera (I've got a tablet one, but using that as a camera is awkward as hell).

As for details.... considering the entire thing is made out of chopped up sprues and strips of the plastic straps used on large packages, what you're seeing IS the detail (along with the disastrous glue jobs on the front. Need to see if I can clean that off somehow without damaging things too much).

Reikland fleshshade is usually a better choice for gold IMO. The redness fits the gold better, give that a pass on a model and see how it looks.

Building a crisis team even though they're shit this edition.

Thinking of leaving the antennas off of the squad leader's head. And I've build him with Iridium bits because they look cooler. (It's all dry fitted with blutac, still need to do cleanup before this thing gets anywhere near a spray can.)

Legs on the right are mostly done, could probably tidy up the highlights though. This is only my second unit ever so I'm still learning a lot.

Yeah, all the arms are already magnetised. Unsure if I want to magnetise the shoulders, or just rely on friction; the weapons seem to slot in nicely unpainted already, so painted it should be pretty snug. Magnets would mean less wear and tear though.
>>
So... looking into paints, and does anyone make paints that come out of the container at the consistency they're actually meant to be used at?

Cause I'd really like to use the paint I'm paying for, not waste a third of it. I guess a wet palette would help with some of that, but it wouldn't help a bit with drybrushing wastage.
>>
>>54759517
You could transfer your paint to larger bottles and add some flow-aid into the mix. It's what a lot of people do when transferring GW paints to droppers.

Dry brushing will always waste paint though, that's unavoidable.
>>
>>54759517
I haven't dry brushed in god knows how long
(I'm the guy who paints fine details but leaves parts of the models black)
Tbh though alot of cheaper quality paints come out fairly think which I did find easier to dry brush with but I would suggest either get a larger container for the paints or buy a lower quality paint specifically for dry brushing

Hey, guys. I'm slightly new to painting, and I've been following lots of tutorials. I'd like to branch out into doing my own color schemes, but I don't really know where to start. How do you guys pick what you'll paint Your Dudes?
>>
>>54759767
Look at a color wheel and pick two complements.

Or doing anything at all, really. Just keep putting two colors next to each other until something resonates with you. There's no rules.

For Tyranids I like to look at flowers. For Space Marines I dartboard.
>>
>>54759767

That would mostly depend on the models, but if you're newish to miniatures but not art in general I'd suggest sticking to 2-4 main colors and 1-2 (simple & complementary, e.g. black & white or gold & silver) accent colors, not including a realistic skintone.
>>
>>54759767
If you're having trouble visualizing in your head or even while using a color wheel, it may help to go out and buy a cheap coloring book with some colored pencils. I know that sounds pretty dumb but its cheaper than using paint only to discover some colors just don't go. It'll give you a feel for color even if you stick to the typical colors of whatever is in the book.

Otherwise just keep looking at examples and maybe watch videos on color theory. Do what makes you feel creative and gives you a feeling of wanting to continue.

Thanks, anons. You've been helpful. I know a bit about heraldic rules. Should I obey the rule of tinctures, and pair colors like red, green, blue, brown, black, etc. with metallics like gold, silver, copper, brass, etc.?

>>
>>54756858
Nothing about him says sorcerer to me. Could easily just be a raptor sergeant.
Staff is an obvious one, but I understand you may want sword for combat reasons over the staff.
Needs some form of cloth maybe.
Robed legs for example. There's some good Greenstuff tutorials.
Familiar floating with him could do a good job of making him feel magical.
Also things like a small book on his belt or some green stuff energy swirls.

>>54757139
Looks like he's in hysterics, laughing.
I think that would be a cheeky base if you kept it that way.
But I assume the intent is he's wounded and screaming in paint, so bloody paintjob will convey that nicely.
Good stuff.
>>
>>54759896
My genuine honest answer?

Do that if it looks good to you and you like it. Yes, it will often look best that way. But ultimately all that matters is that it's Your Dudes and they end up the colors you want them to be.

This is an army painter mock-up of a colour scheme for my homebrew Space Marine chapter, the Revenant Lords (name WIP too. Specifically the word 'lords' is what I might change).

What do you guys think? Any criticism or suggestions on how to improve it?

>>
>>54764601
no
>>
>>54764601
It's really tricky, because brush painted is always going to have a thicker layer of paint than airbrushed stuff, as such the stenciled paint tends to more clearly sit on top of the coats underneath, it's not usually a good look.
>>
>>54764772
That's a good point I hadn't considered. I was mostly worried about the paint bleeding in under the stencil, but the layer buildup sounds like a pain too.
>>
>>54764681
>>54764686
I always heavily wash metallics with Nuln oil, so it should be okay then
>>
>>54764796
bleeding underneath the stencil is indeed also an issue (especially if you thin you paint a fair bit to ensure the coats are as thin as possible), though there are brands of self-adhesive stencils that generally prevent that from happening, but that doesn't fix the build-up.

Just started work on my Warshrine of Nurgle, which I'm basing on the Skaven Screaming Bell and was looking for some inspiration for suitably nurglish conversions to it.
Currently I'm thinking of making the front covered by a trophy rack containing various noteworthy trinkets and eminent individual's skulls which have been vanquished in battle. The Rat Ogre will ofc be converted into a Spawn. I'm going to fluff the arch that's holding up the bell as some important dwarven doorway defiled by skaven iconography which has then been exhumed by my globetrotting Nurgle Army. Other than that I'm kinda undecided regarding ideas.
I especially need some help coming up with a more suitable iconography to cover the bell with as the skaven face seems way out of place for WoC.

This really depends on what you are painting. Vallejo in general has paints I like in good containers with (mostly) good pigment count and coverage. They sell a "Game Color Set Suitcase" for a little under us$200 that has 70 colors and is a pretty comprehensive pallette of colors for fantasy/scifi figs. If you are doing historicals, particularly modern-era, you'll want a set of colors to match common military uniforms/vehicles, which Vallejo also does

you'd think so but in fact the marines shoulders usually dont fit flush with the arm and should almost always be attached after the arms to prevent posing fuckups

fit everything in place and test it out before you open up the glue bottle though

marine arms with bolters suck to fit together properly too and it is an acquired skill

Termies fall somewhere between the custard the primaris and regular marines depending on the kit that was used to build them, old kits are shorter, closer to marinelets, while newer kits like the deathwing or BA assault termies are about as tall as primaris. The termie librarian from space hulk is as tall as the gravis captain, but that's mainly due to the stairs. Have them at home will post after work if thread is still live. Captcha: 3G footpath

probably. I can understand people owning OG Sqauts and playing them as guard.

People buying Kharadons and using them in 40k without them being obviously categorized in any army/Unit is just plain Proxying to be honest.

But it depends on your Idea and if you even want to play with them or just paint them, if you just paint them there are no Issues

I also finished Xekaar, the Titan Gladiator and the Cyclops Raider for the MK3 Hordes boxed game. On the bottom is the Gladiator on the left with the one I painted about 5 years back. My aim with this was a) paint it all quick, b) make sure it fits in with my old stuff. I could have done loads better these days but then it would have looked really out of place with the entire army.
>>
>>54769146

Dear WIP.

I'm forced off work for 2 weeks because of a serious injury. During which time I will have nothing to do and also be high as fuck on opiate based pain killers (I'm light weight I know.)

Question. In my collection there are 14 armies that need painting. Two of which I am playing with, one of which I might play with.

Which is easiest to paint while high?

A: Ultramarines
B: Sisters of Battle - Order of Our Martyred Lady

and the runners up,

C: Nurgle Daemons
D: Cadians

I'm going to guess C is easiest followed by A? Sisters feel like I have to many areas to avoid fucking up. Marines and Nurgle just have solid color fields.
>>
>>54769279
I don't think I could ever paint while high so I have no idea. I would start making terrain honestly since it's hard to really fuck that up.
>>

Ultramarines
>>

Nurgle daemons arent that bad when you fuck up, because their main aesthetic is being happy ugly sacks of shit.

Your Cadians will get in trouble with the commisar if you paint them little weed-leaves on their Lasguns

The length and width dimensions can vary depending on what you're thinking. Play a little bit and always do rough sketches with your minis in mind. What really matters as far as scale is concerned is height. 3 inches from floor to ceiling is standard for 28mm scale.
As far as windows go, sketch them onto your walls and see what you think. It's about .75 inches to a Space Marine's waist. That is typically the scale I go off of.

Started playing 5e recently and decided to get into painting some figures. I'm using just some Testor's acrylic paints I picked up from a Michael's next to my job because no local game shops had paint and I didn't want to order a bunch of expensive paints if I wasn't that into it.

That being said, I'm liking it. This goblin is the second thing I've painted and I tried doing some highlights on the cape. Turned out okay-ish but took me forever.
