ENUFF DAKKA Edition
What weapons do you use?
What's your favorite?
>>
>>54676501
>What's your favorite?
Probably either the Enfield AS-7 shotgun or the Savalette Guardian.
>>
I usually try to grab more fluffy weaponry, a character of mine who lived in France mostly uses FN firearms (Since there aren't any specifically french guns mentioned in the books), with another favoring the weapon type and configuration they were issued during their time with a SWAT team.
>>
>>54676501
My sammy's the most weapon-heavy guy in the group, doubly so because his civilian identity's fake job is in private security. He has two different sets of weapons: one that's for non-criminal activity and one for criminal activity. He's an all-range type, keeping just a couple pistols (a Savalette Guardian and a Colt Government 2066), a taser, an assault rifle (the FN HAR), a shotgun, and a knife. His criminal identity uses a similar loadout, with the HAR exchanged for a heavily-modified Ares Alpha, an assault shotgun, a sniper rifle (easily broken down to carry in a false-bottom attache case), a sword, a few grenades, and the blade in his cyberarm. Obviously, he can't use all of those at once, but weapons are just tools used for killing people. You don't bring a socket wrench to do a drill's job just like you don't bring a shotgun when the job requires a marksman's weapon or a sniper rifle when a handgun will do.
>>
>>54676501
My social adept that I'm retiring in a session or two after her arc's complete has like 5 weapons on her at any given time, a Pulsar, a Streetsweeper, a Deputy, a whip from the 4th world and an Ares Redline.
>>
>>54676501
>What's your favorite?
The Ingram, ofc. Runner up: Savalette.

I've had this idea in my head for a character that reflects basically everything. He would need
a) Reflection or Harmonious Reflection metamagic
b) Counterstrike martial arts technique or adept power,
c) missile parry (probably on a focus) and
d) a high initiative to utilize his interrupts.

Which metamagic is better? Is Counterstrike as martial arts or power better?

How would you build such a character (Mage/MysAd/PhysAd, metatype)?

>>

To be fair it is the best AR in the game.
>>
>>54678717
Isn't that the light pistol with 7p and SA/BF? because then it's already the best light pistol for raw firepower, like the Guardian. If you want something easier to hide than a Heavy, or something a bit more socially acceptable to carry.

I have it in print, thats not an issue.
The secura technically still has the "burst Needs complex Action" part from pre-errata R&G in it, because the Author didn't knew this got removed.
And i honestly think it should keep this disadvantage, because I'm very much against "strictly better" weapons.
They should have given the Walther a laser sight instead desu.

Personally I'm fond of Stackpole and Findley (the latter of whom wrote at least one NAN sourcebook back in the day, in addition to novels). Charette also wrote a lot of stuff that is still referenced/core to modern canon with things like Secrets of Power and Never Deal With a Dragon.

>finally, a chance to talk about Humanis Policlub. They've been relegated to the background forever; now, in Complete Trog, we get a chance to talk about who exactly they are and how they operate. We can finally dig into why they are so pernicious, what their platform actually is, and how their nakedly pro-human agenda gets past discrimination laws. After all, they're literally a public political organization - they can't be that if they're Satan in the eyes of the world.

>JK, we'll just say there is some sort of outer shell, and a secret inner conspiracy that does evil evil stuff, and that this policlub is actually organized like a terrorist network with very limited communication between branches, because that seems at all possible for a public entity with political goals.

Frag it all. There is functionally no difference between Humanis, Human Nation, and Alamo 20k, except a vague allusion to some sort of HP charity wing. You'd imagine that if they were going to write a book all about oppression, they'd at least open up a newspaper or sociology book and read how actual hate groups operate.

Placating. The Mossad still exists. It gets mentioned every so often in connection to government powers and spycraft.

Basically, Israel and Palestine got their two state solution after Arafat died. They survived the Alliance Jihad through threatening nukes and Palestine supporting them out of not wanting to give up their new peace. Also some magic. Israeli mages got real good at casting defensive magic near their holy sites.

I don't think there's much about it beyond that. All I've seen that mentions Israel is Shadows of Asia and a few other books that gush about how amazing the Mossad is. I guess combustion could've happened later in a book that I haven't look at, but it's around as of Shadows of Asia.

There's always been the implication that Humanis kept their hand ostentatiously clean, while secretly funding groups like Human Nation and Alamos to do the dirty work.

When the supposed cover organization is actually just another group that goes out on the streets and kicks trogs to death as soon as you get past the wafer-thin shell of 'does this guy actually hate?' It makes so sense for it to still survive as it is presented. Humanis literally funds candidates for elections, they can't have the majority of the member rolls be people who go out and commit hate crimes.

>but being at .05 essence would make me feel obligated to play them as cyberpsychosis freaks
Cyberpsychosis is at the bottom of a long spiral down. Educate yourself on the realities of low essence, rather than going full memelord with it.

The simple truth is that low essence makes you susceptible to physical and mental health disorders, but does not strictly force your hand into going down that route. Force of personality (ie; not having shit willpower and/or charisma), therapy, social support, etc will go a long way towards preventing mental health breakdowns in low essence characters - and you don't only need one or two of those to keep you as you.

Shock Hands were boss as fuck back in 4e, when Electricity damage was super overpowered. Back in 4e, every time you hit someone with shock damage, they had to make a special secondary Resistance test or else drop and flop for 2+Net Hits on the attack roll full combat turns. It was a real fight-ender - a bloody fantastic nonlethal weapon.

It's much less good in 5e. In 5e, it's usually something basic like the tried-and-true Spurs on a max-Strength cyberarm, a versatile shotgun-arm or something suppressed, or go full balls-out and slap a Fingertip Compartment Monowhip on there for some really killy fun.
>>
So, is there anything a technomancer can't hack with skinlink? It seems like s pretty nifty way to bring down electric doors, subtly sabotage cars and suddenly ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL of anything you're touching

What game would you like to see modded into a Shadowrun game?

Additionally, I havent looked into 5ed ever since Rigger 5 came out. And the technomancer book was supposedly delayed.

Did any new technomancer content come out? I've always liked them but found them sub-optimal.
>>
>>54695242
>Did any new technomancer content come out?
No. They continue to be the overwhelmingly least-supported Archetype of 5e.

>And the technomancer book was supposedly delayed.
Not just delayed - canceled. The former author is no longer authoring it. They're considering taking the content already produced and rolling it into a larger book as technomancer sections, but last I heard they're still in the consideration stages for that - not even started.

It will be years - plural - before we get anything on that front.

>What game would you like to see modded into a Shadowrun game?
Androids/clones. Manufactured people. Yes, it would definitely change the landscape of Shadowrun as the setting current exists today. Yes, I'd still like to see it happen anyway.

I want to see non-crapshoot AIs in the form of person-scale non-drone-body-hopping androids for some Blade Runner Replicant action. I want to see social upheaval and political uncertainty where personhood, civil rights, and resistance movements are concerned.

I think that's the least-tapped of all of the classic cyberpunk themes, and the one most ripe for injecting some of that old-fashioned political punk of classic Shadowrun back into the setting.

Eh, at this point, 5e's better than 4e. The editing is worse, and there's some choice garbage-tier fluff, but it has more good options at this point, and fewer shitty mechanics books like WAR to boot. Plus, it plays better - except for the Matrix, but that's garbage in both modern editions.

The real problem is that nobody fucking likes technomancers. They know that a technomancer book will sell less than a book about literally any other archetype, so any time there's the slightest problem, they're much more willing to just scrap it and much less willing to waste pagecount in other books on them.

And because they're so unsupported, people continue to not fucking like them. It's a cyclical issue.
>>
>>54695959

You'd have to build most of the magic system yourself, same with the non-humans. There's a psionics system in the Ianus supplements, along with vampires and werewolves and ghosts and shit, so you could use those as a base.
>>
>>54699424
Short Answer: It's shit

Long answer: It's REALLY shit, on both Fluff and Crunch
Fluff: Trog Lives Matter. That's basically the theme that permeates the book like a waft of Dimethylmercury. Only trogs are discriminated against. Orks can live as long as dwarves and elves, but don't because the mana is tainted unlike in the Congo. Only trogs should do anything against it, humans should stay away. There's a reason most here call it "The Total Nigger".

Crunch: Where to begin. Dozens of trog Jackpointers have been statted, but apparently by the interns. Clockwork has no knowledge of computers, Butch has no Knowledge:Anatomy, Bull had a 10 Karma quality introduced that allows orks to live human livespans. Too bad his own character apparently doesn't have it. Then the other qualities. One that gives Trogs free Squatter housing and reduces the price for low lifestyles. One that allows you to communicate with other trogs in infrasound grunts. And other such shit qualities.
Oh, and there's a new augmentation for orks and trolls that turns their tusks into antennas. Doubles the distances for noise. Yes, this does mean that a trog could hack without noise for about 200 km

>What's the best way to go about running the Shadowrun setting in a system that isn't a massive pile of shit?
Just not running it, probably.

Trying to adapt it to a new system would be a huge pain in the ass, a ton of shit lost in translation - it just wouldn't be worth the extremely considerable effort.

So, if you're not willing to run Shadowrun in Shadowrun, your best bet is to give up entirely.

If you really want to play Shadowrun so goddamn bad, and hate Shadowrun so goddamn bad, that you're really, actually willing to go to all of that effort? I think there's a GURPS conversion project that's been kicking its way across the internet for years now. I'd piggyback off of that.

That's literally just a line that 2XL throws out against Bull (who of course is an orc) when the latter suggests human runners being the ones to deal with a senator. The whole book is character assassination on 2XL, who even in his own writeup in the book is called out as anti-human.

Could be a lot better. They took what might have been an opportunity to really do some interesting looks and underdeveloped parts of the setting and squandered most of it. There are some surprisingly useful parts (the section on Spain, Or'zet dictionary, the Biloxi Institute, Atlanta) but mostly it's not great.

The SCOPe is the only time they took the core message of 'people are racist to trogs, racism is bad' and really did something worthwhile with it, instead of making Nazi comparisons.

I tried two campaigns in 5th as a player and I just didn't get the feel for it. 4th was where I started, it felt like you had more freedom in 4th, and unlike most people I had no problems with the Matrix part. Do you have time later on to repair, resupply, and get things ready, or is this going to be wave combat where the GM locks everything down and throws bodies at you until you die or get past 99 stages?

Because the defenses that could be erected to deter ghouls and mass infantry are very different from what's necessary to resist a proper army unit, and is again vastly different from something to stop Seraphim and Red Samurai. The only general advice is to spend a ton on reagents for your mages and hope the GM doesn't apply Background Count for the literal killing fields you are building, and to get a fuckload of medical supplies and autodocs into a basement.

Throwing is hard to build a character around, instead of as a side-gig for a melee combatant. Pump STR to an unhealthy degree, and AGI. Go Orc for preference.

Urban Tribe Tomahawk is your top-tier weapon - expensive, but hits well, hide well, and can be used close up. Get a couple. Shurikens can be fun if you chuck them by the handful.

Grenades are the obvious choice to build around, but be very careful how you do it. Flashbangs, gas grenades, and smoke grenades can be fun and debilitating. When you start using lethal grenades on the regular, you are opening the team up for retaliation on the same path, and you are not going to win a chunky salsa fight with the GM.
>>
>>54705443
Then you install a single cybereye mod in each, so they're fully functional cyber eyes.
>>
>>54707357
>Urban Tribe Tomahawk
just checked the books
so Urban Tribe Tomahawk is avail 4 while regular shuriken is avail 4(R)
Is that an error?
>>
>>54707554
Gotta let them keep their Tomahawks. Don't want another great ghost dance
>>
>>54706877
Being able to perform the basic function of their role, by being able to form PANs (meaning they can't protect a team's gear from the matrix), by having their drain values fixed so half their complex forms aren't useless and so they have one viable build, by fixing the glaring typo in their submergence formula. Oh and by actually delivering the promised support in line with other archetypes, rather than allowing this book to languish for months before bothering to call it dead.
>>
>>54707579
A Tomahawk is also a tool, so it gets into a grey area whereas a shuriken is unambiguously a weapon. Either way carrying multiple Tomohawks on display is going to raise flags for an attentive security officer.
>>
>>54707554
>>54707690
Yah. People get hung up on whether something is legal, restricted, or not ... that's only a slim part of the situation. What you're doing and specific restrictions of that area are often more important than whether you have a license or not.

Reagents and high Force spirits are your friend. Force 12+ is imune to almost anything non magical so can deal with ghouls and regular recruits.
For the top sec forces set the city in circles and wire explosives in them.
Once a circle is breached fall back and blow it all to hell.
Corp mages would be a problem so I suggest you make a unit to operate behind the enemy lines. Mark mages and rigger Command Centers, take them out and run.
Ton of jammers would help disrupting coms
>>
>>54707294
>Do you have time later on to repair, resupply, and get things ready, or is this going to be wave combat where the GM locks everything down and throws bodies at you until you die or get past 99 stages?
I imagine we'll haave time to repair and resupply if we can kill everyone in a particular wave ... but they won't just run into our guns like retards. Once anyone who runs towards our fortress gets cut down I imagine they'll start setting up their own barricades down the street or in neighbouring buildings if we give them the opportunity. Try to keep us under constant sniper fire etc until some new hotshot officer arrives with enough authority to force them back into our firing lines.
To do any external repairs between waves would need us to send our own teams out to clear their sniper nests etc or just maybe must enough suppressive fire to keep them all on the floor for moment or two.
Actually though, the ghouls won't be on anyone's side so we could potentially use their attacks to do any external repairs needed.

Really though, it's the proper army units and potentially Red Samurai that I'm most nervous about keeping out.

>>54708007
>For the top sec forces set the city in circles and wire explosives in them.
Given the urban environment and our relatively limited forces I'm not sure we'd have the numbers to conduct a proper defense in depth like that. Will definitely rig the streets and surrounding buildings/rubble to blow though.
>Tons of jammers
Will do.
>Make a unit to operate behind the enemy lines
Hmm, what do you think about tunnels? See if we can get access to the sewers and use that as a sally port if/when enemy spirits start coming at us.

A/B/D/C/E or A/C/D/B/E can work for priority builds, but it looks a little weird. You spend your 5 special attribute points on Maxing your magic and getting 2 edge. Missile Mastery and Rapid Draw are great. Then you can pick if you want more skills or attributes. Grab some Throwing Stars and some Boomerangs. The Tomahawks are slightly better, but the trog life is a poor one.

In career you'll focus on getting decent gear, initiating, and maybe training a close combat skill.

Hmm you are right
So abandon thinking Defence of Stalingrad and switch to partisan fighting.
You can keep out the other forces with standard fighting but not the millitary. Too well supplied, trained and generally better. So let them in the city. Then make it a living hell for them.
Expand on the tunnels idea to the city itself. Learn every nook and cranny. Attack them then quickly disappear. Jamm so they can't scout properly and communicate.
Your goal would be not to win but make the operation cost too much. Like how the Russians pulled out from Afganistan after the jihadist started shooting down Helos.
The Stiker is you base rocket launcher so get some of those. Yakusoku if you wanna go for overkill of Long Burst Missile Barrage as complex action.

5e if you want to stay current.

4e if you want to jump right in, and you intend to keep your characters for a while.

5e is a poorly organized mess, and the rules are designed to be more lethal to your characters if/when drek hits the fan. Somebody cobbled together an SRD wiki that needs some love, if you get lost in the rulebooks.

4e has the 20A ed. core, and it's actually pretty well organized, and references to supplements, so you should find that one rule without too much trouble.

They laid the groundwork for clones, at least. There had been a blurb or two about "wimps", the clones with a severely stripped down nervous system kept in place for autonomic maintenance while their organs cultivate for harvesting. Full, sapient clones haven't been perfected yet, IIRC.

And there's actually been a low-key civil rights equivalent for wimps, protesting using wimps in the same way people protest factory farming today. They're not so much for equal rights as much as opposing the practice, wanting minimized suffering and inhumane treatment for something that's going to be consumed regardless.

Also, if you count Dragonfall as canon, Aztechnology has cloning down, and that opens the door for other megas to have developed the technology independently, stole it, or reverse engineered it from similar tech/data. Though the question is why would they bother if they don't need cattle for blood magic.

If you're talking about killin' stuff, manablade from Hard Targets is pretty tasty. Decent damage and straight up ignores armor. Bad news is that it means you need passable melee skill and getting up close while people are trying to geek you.

If you mean general use, then stunbolt, taser, and stick'n'shock ammo are great weapons. They're perfectly legal; and, unless you're group is trying to cultivate the stone cold killer rep, then it's generally accepted advice to use nonlethal means where you can.

Megacorps look more favorably on leaving unconscious bodies behind rather than dead ones. It speaks a certain amount of professionalism to keep things impersonal, and clean up and cover up are less expensive than paying out compensation to loved ones and explaining how and why a paramilitant group attacked your facility rather than a common criminal group came in for a simple smash and grab.

Unless they pull some Matric 3.0 bullshit and declare all Technomancers are now obsolete and can't function.

It'd be more of a stretch than Houdini pulling a rabbit out of his ass while in one of those straitjackets, but imagine 20 years down the line, your runners have to contact some hermit in a junkyard, tooling around with old tech that he can command with his brain.
>>
>>54706627
I would agree that the concept is cool, but the item itself is pretty garbage. It's meant to be a holdout concealable in plain sight, but one shot to the non-replaceable mag, light damage, no AP...it's pretty awful even for a holdout.

Here's an idea, talk to your GM, and if things go well, he'll let you make a one off or you'll get a matrix news notification, "Ares releases a new line of 'gun bracers', designed to keep you secure while keeping your hands free with a magazine designed to wrap around the forearms. Models include with inbuilt heavy pistol, submachine gun, or shotgun..."
