ITT: Some small events in a generic D&D city, that make players' stay in town interesting. Nothing big or deadly.
Let's make this a d% table. I'll start
01: You see a dwarf getting into an argument with a shopkeeper for calling him a "digger." (Dwarves are miners, it's a sensitive subject for them)

A small flock of birds keep eating money from the ground. They appeared just two months ago and already became a tourist attraction.

A small shop appeared overnight in a run down area. People living in the district all claim it's been always there.

Thugs accost the weakest looking player character if they are alone and wander in the bad part of town. They attempt to mug the PC.

A small metal cube falls from a nearby rooftop, making a slight thump, the ball is the size of a tennis ball, examining the cube reveals that it's some sort of map, to a place you can't make out, if the players take the sube, they might find the cube stolen the next day, by it's previous owner, a thief who was jumping on rooftops.

Copious amounts of garbage and junk litter one of the city streets. It smells awful and rats are running a muck through the trash. The city constable doesn't seem to care.

There's an event in the town that involves some sort of weapon being thrown (Javellin, Caber toss, whatevs), that's held at midnight, during the competition the players hear someone cry out in pain, if they want to save the person they have to convince the crowd (who can't hear the guy) to stop throwing and then pass a medicine check, as thanks the guy might give a minor magic potion, like a numbing potion or something.

A dwarfen caravan is outside the city gates. They're here to restore certain buildings in the town as part of an ancient pact made centuries prior. The mayor prefers the Elven woodcraft given as a symbol of gratitude for not desecrating an elvish holy site.
