It's like the movie fury, but with space marines.

Most of the movie is from the point of view of a family of imperial citizen refugees trying to make it through a chaos warzone to the imperial city stronghold, hiding from chaos troops and experiencing horrors along the way. There will be the occasional allusion to space marines operating on the planet when the family overhears vox transmissions on disabled vehicles and the like.

Finally the imperial stronghold is in sight but the chaos army attacks the stronghold as the family attempts to cross no mans land. Just as it seems they are destined to be ripped apart by friendly fire or the chaos hordes the space marines have their big reveal and deploy defensive deep strikes around the city. The remainder of the movie is a brutal close range high cgi firefight with the family slowly moving toward the city past their space marine defenders. Eventually every family member is slain besides the mother and son who is ripped from the young boys arms by the chaos horde. The boy picks up a nearby discarded sword and kills the chaos champion who took his mother as the space marines look on, becoming fatally wounded in the process.

The final scene shows the Astartes departing the planet with the young boy in a medical unit to be prospected as a space marine.

Opening scene:
-using smaller and faster tanks to flank an enemy army, then advancing on towards a massive hive city
-the line halts momentarily, before spotters call out to artillery which begin bombarding the city, knocking down massive towers and crushing swarms of mutants, cultists and traitors
-the line roars forward once again, splitting around the first piles of rubble into flanking position as the super-heavies roll forward and over or sometimes through the rubble
-dozens of potential ambushes are thwarted, but some succeed, tanking out one or two
-there are MORE TANKS, crushing the successful ambushing in a wash of firepower
-the last of the enemy huddles into a bunker, which takes several hard hits but refuses to break
-until several of the siege breaker tanks roll in and punch a hole into large enough for the troop carriers to unleash the infantry, who swarm in and open fire as they advance
-a Clan Captain looks on from next to one of the super heavies, turning to the Apothecary next to him "any casualties."
-the Apothecary shakes his head. "we lost three brothers in the advance. two scouts were injured as they withdrew."
-a Librarian steps out of a command tank. "My Lord, what little of the enemy that escapes has been routed. the city is liberated. your orders?"
-the Captain loads his bolter. "purge the city."

Would actually make a pretty good movie. It's a rather bleak war film about trying to do the right thing and getting screwed, but surviving. Plus, I think the Imperium's weird internal politics and back stabbing are the best part of the setting, so we'd get lots of that mixed back and forth with the Lions going around shooting Orks and getting killed.
