What do your characters eat regularly? Do you remember to have your high-Str/Dex/Con characters eat a healthy diet?

When looking at the favored class for half-elves it says "Oracle: Select one revelation normally usable a number of times per day equal to 3 + the oracle’s Charisma modifier. Add 1/2 to the number of uses per day of that revelation."

What does this mean?

Also what's the best class to play a debuff based necromancer?
>>
how come even an extremely optimized, borderline cheated blaster cannot win in a damage race against a martial that has a couple attacks and pounce
>>
>>54562355
It means that you get an extra use for every second level where you take that FCB

>>
>>54562355
If you have a revelation that says something along the lines of "the oracle can use this ability 3 + the oracle's CHA mod number of times per day", you can take that favored class bonus to increase the number of times you can use it beyond that limit. But the boost only applies to that one revelation, not any others you have with the same limit of uses, although you could take the favored class bonus separate times for different qualifying revelations.

Also the 1/2 part is just a fancy way of saying it only gives you an extra use once every two times you take it.
>>
>>54562383
>>54562429

How many levels do you have to go into for that to actually be effective though?
>>
>>54562332
>what do your characters eat regularly?

>Dhampir Inquisitor: hates eating, and drinking, and fun

>>
>>54562457
2.

1/2x2=1
>>
>>54562471
What I mean is it worth it compared to the the extra HP/SP or other favored class ability to get more spells?

Especially since the Oracle gets so few on their list
>>
>>54562457
Effective as in actually does something? Two.

Effective as in actually useful? Depends on the revelation you're applying it to I guess, and how many times you use it during a day. But you're an Oracle. CHA is your most important stat. Chances are, you won't need to use that revelation more than 3+CHA mod times per day anyway.

>>54562495
I would probably rank it as worth less than an extra HP or skill rank, and definitely worth less than the ability to get extra spells known.

What's the purpose?
>>
>>54562383
Because in blasting is suboptimal and pouncing is hyperoptimal.

I mean honestly, you are a mighty wizard with the ability to turn men to stone and control the fucking weather and you want to waste that power on pewpew-ing some guy?
>>
>>54562536
one of my friends is in a game where the longest running villan can mindswap with her familiar if she's killed, and constantly steals bodies for her own ends. sometimes, you just don't have a way of killing the boss.

i find it kinda funny that a high level wizard can create life spontaneously, magically conjure entire planes of being, control time itself, etc. but can't just blow up a castle.
like, how the fuck are you a cosmic-tier hypermage with impossible power but your best bet for destroying a castle is to, like, turn it's foundations into mud or summon something to do it for you
why can't you just cast superexplosion and wipe it off the face of the earth
you've got spells stronger than that already anyways
is it because a spell that says "do a shitload of damage that ignores hardness less than 20" is clearly OP unlike a spell with some vague juju text like "create a portal to another plane"
>>
>>54562615
You may have to resort to actually checking out the race builder and attempting to reverse engineer them. Frustratingly, Paizo doesn't just include the RP value of new races with their stats.

Trying to tune them up for Godslayers, perhaps?
>>
So if my AC is 23 at level 1 will my GM hate me or what?
>>
>>54562714
Yes.

Damage is much easier to see how powerful it is, but with vague shit and utility shit, it's much easier for its usefulness to be obfuscated behind layers of 'depends on the game' and 'it's situational'
>>
>>54562383

>>
What's my best option for a PoW Not!Gunslinger?
Desperado Warlord?
I'm not sure if Warlord is the right choice for me, as I'm interested in more of a sniper-y utility Tempest Gale approach.
>>
>>54562733
>That spoiler

Yes! I've got a concept I'm really enjoying, but before I hammer out the classes I want to know just what classes would be ideal - I know I know, Mythic and level 20 means almost every single one is viable, but I'd like to optimize a bit.
>>
>>54562833
Your best bet is actually gunsmoke mystic. It fixes a lot of the problems guns have (Crafting bullets chief among them), Elemental Flux works with ranged attacks (as well as generally being the best discipline due to being four in one for some ungodly reason), has the ability to enchant its own gear, and stuff like that.
>>
>>54562894
I was thinking about that, but the Mystic's approach to maneuvers is a bit offputting for me.
I'll think on it, though. Thanks for the input.

it might seem a bit intimidating to start with, but having a mystic before, it's actually pretty easy to control and have access to a maneuver that, while not always exactly what you wanted, is always useful every turn, and they have the most maneuvers of any initiating class not named Stalker.

That's great to hear! I'm basically in the inverse situation. I knew what build I wanted to play as soon as I saw the chargen and a little bit of research after that has already hammered out a lot of specific details like archetype, race, and class feature choices. I'm still unsure what I want to do as far as a character concept goes, though. It'll take me some time to settle on anything, I think.

What kind of person does pic related strike you as? It's the art I'm most inclined to use right now, and he strikes me as a jolly and bold sort who has a fondness for flashy magic and performances. Probably likes kids, so I'm sort of imagining him as, like... Electric Santa Claus.
>>
>>54562997
>What kind of person does pic related strike you as?
i think he's an unkillable piece of shit that destroys me whenever he's on the enemy team but does nothing when he's on my team

also i remember when he was a fat dope, before he underwent magical liposuction

i enjoy his center-of-attention personality. he's got some of the most fun dialogue in the game.

I really like the idea of an Incanter with Sword Birth, but how do I actually utilize it?
There's no way in hell a half-BAB class is gonna hit something in melee.
Is there some way to get casting-stat-to-hit-and-damage with Incanter?
>>
>>54563054
Damn, I just knew looking at this piece of art that he had to be from some game or another. League of Legends, I'm guessing?

Also apparently my impression was not that far off from the real character's personality. Well, I guess that just means this art is really full of personality, to be able to so clearly express it!

>>54563074
Glad to hear other people get the same vibe. Even if I don't go full on Electric Santa with toys and everything (and I probably won't, although maybe he'll have a soft spot for kids), he'll certainly be a very jolly fellow! I thought about making him use unarmed strikes but I don't think that's going to happen. It would be a very poor fit for the build I had in mind.
>>
>>54562714
Oh, that's because that's a 3.5 spell.

I happen to be an expert on this topic.
Storm Spirit used to be a total doofus back in the day.
He fixed up when his brothers Ember Spirit and Earth Spirit decided to join in.
A few choice quotes from Storm Spirit include:

And then there's, uh...
This rare defeat voice line:
https://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/dota2.gamepedia.com/e/eb/Ss_lose_04.mp3

My favorite character in the game by far. Love 'im.
>>
>>54563282
Yep.
My GM allowed that handbook, and now I'm stuck figuring out what I want.
Armorist is... eugh. Even archetyped.
Incanter with Sword Birth is cool, but there's no way I'm hitting anything, ever.
So... Just kinda floundering, right now. Trying to find something that'll work.
>>
>>54562887
>>54562615

Bite is 1 RP, Scent is 4 RP, Low-Light Vision is 1 RP, and Beast Shape I is 3 RP.

In total, you're looking at 9 RP and can use 6 RP to make up the difference.
>>
>>54563327
>>54563101
Isn't the draw of taking Sword Birth on an Incanter first to damage enemies with th initial burst, then have allies just grab weapons to fight with?

Seems to me what you wanna do is grab a Familiar, or some way to treat an ally as You for the purpose of your spells, have the spell get dropped by around them, then take Dancing Arena and turn the place into a bloodbath.

Or perhaps you could use other features or spells to combo with it. Like Metal Geomancing or Creation off of the swords, Telekinesis to attack with, Enhancement to animate the weapons themselves (or Enhancement to improve your BAB or whatever)

Basically, what your Armory is for is not for you, but for other people to benefit and to possible create some control/area denial. After you get some good spheres to go with it.

Basically, what Im saying is find talents in other spheres that can affect weapons or metal objects in general, or maybe even can have interesting AoE effects, and combo it all like a proper wizard would. Take advantage of the Difficult Terrain, maybe give your allies the ability to fly or something, and control the field like the Wizard you are.

"Intelligent items can actually be considered creatures because they have Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores and should be treated as constructs."

What are the implications of this? Do intelligent items gain racial HD? Can they take a feat?
>>
>>54563528
Well, for starters I suppose it means you could upgrade them like you could any other construct.
>>
>>54563528
Depends on the item in question, and how it gets its intelligence. If it was created via a Class feature, then it should have its own progression and rules. If its a general stand-alone item, then it would either be improved as a construct would, or it could potentially take levels, but this is all up to a GM to decide how he wants to do.

>They did so, fought their way up a hill rock to rock by cover, and caught up to Abraham, disabling his gun, and fighting off his mercs (An elven berzerker and a slippery snake-ish mage girl), the mage survived, and spilled all she knew, but Abraham didn't have their stuff, it must ahve been taken east, on advice, they decide to take the GRAND EXPRESS EAST

>Before doing so, they close up business in town, talking to people, collecting rewards, leaving the minigun behind to defend the town

>They also visit the scholar again, and as they look into the mouth of the world once more, its as if something is trying to devour them

>Arthur, fascinated by this occurrence, declares he's coming east with them, his workship is in Perdia anyways, their destination, and he needs to consult his library

>They set off on gifted horses (and Mary is gifted Marcie, the bartender and now sheriff's hat), and head off to the town of Asti Arentum, a stop of the Grand Express

>In town, they take a few days to stock up and craft, Magwau encounters a particular figure, Euralye, an illusionist and stage performer. He spills his spaghetti. Everywhere

>They bust up a back alley fight over gambling, and the next day, its onto the train!

>Bam! The door to the carriage gets kicked open on both sides, on one a zombie, on the other a Robber!

>Jenny blows the robber away, and Magwau and Euralye take out the zombie... But not before she sustains a deep wound

>They decide to take on the zombies first, moving towards the rear of the train, with Eurayle weaving a barrier towards the front to protect the carriage and stop them from being sammiched.

Explain.
How is this actually handled? Do you ask if the players are okay with evil actions? Do you do abuse their good will in order to disrupt their efforts? Do you still discuss your intentions in a civil manner out of character?

The way you evade the question and cherry-pick bits of its language indicates to me, given that I've been in a similar situation, that the "democratic" nature of your group dynamic hinges upon peer pressure and the implicit threat of shutting down the campaign or even ending a friendship.

How much of a mechanical faux pas is it to Gestalt two initiating classes? I like the class abilities of one and the class abilities of another, but the whole issue of maneuvers is concerning me. Would you people raise an eyebrow at something like this, how would you handle it as a DM?

I have been working on a more savage/tribalistic race with a lot of societal fluff and mannerisms derived from the Fore people, Trobriands, Australian aborigines, and a bunch of other lesser known tribes - basically it comes down to a culture in which sexual practices are abhorrent to modern society, cannibalism is practiced, headhunting is common, ritual sacrifice (including that of children) is practiced etc.

Think like cannibal exploitation film style stuff combined with historical examples.

Question of etiquette, folks

I was playing PFS today and the fellow running the gm flew off the handle when I tried to use arcane mark with spell strike on a magus. Like, he yelled "if this were a home game I'd tell you to leave!" I offered to work it out, go over rulings, and the like but he just wanted to move on.

So here's the question: am I being That Guy and playing a bullshit character, or was he acting like an ass? I don't want to stir the pot, especially if I'm in the wrong, but I need to know if walking on eggshells is the right play from here. I just wanna roll dice and have fun.

>>
>>54565292
True, but they're also attention whores who enjoy baiting the thread. Blingmaker is likely the subject here, considering it was one of the few games to accept multiple Evil PCs, but I recall that being on the basis that they were planning to have some sort of redemption arc.

But then again, people who play evil PCs almost always do it as an excuse to be assholes. So it's probably turned out that they never intended to be anything but baby-raping evil motherfuckers, and are now strongarming the GM and other players with the threat of leaving the campaign.

>>
>>54565326
>am I being That Guy and playing a bullshit character, or was he acting like an ass?

Yes.

Arcane Marking for free attacks is definitely against the intent, but rules-legal. I personally don't care, since it's only relevant in the *worst* levels; but the issue is contentious.

Buuuut, a PFS GM needs to keep their fucking cool. Of all the bullshit you could have brought to the table, getting a 2nd attack as a low level Magus isn't even worth considering.

To be fair, I wouldn't really welcome someone forcing my evil character to change alignment either, but that's because I prefer it to happen naturally.

But the problem is that people are hard to change. I don't often change a character's alignment, and I've found that /pfg/ games are filled with players who will actively resist opportunities for character development in favor of either wacky/cutesy bullshit or deliberate disregard for human reactions.

Blingmaker's a time bomb. But I don't think there's anyone in that game I pity.
Maybe Wubu since they seem like they actually care about storytelling and meaningful conflict. Possibly even Sleep if I'm generous, but only because he's kind of pathetic.

Truly, there are few surprises to be had in the compilation of applications for our present repertoire of Paizo Games General Roll20 Pathfinder Games. For it is well-known that applications are selected not by quality of prose or verisimilitude, but by the sheer amount of precious hours squandered ponderously promoting ones own creations in the relative safety afforded by the far side of the screen of a computing device. Though, lest we be mistaken, one must recall the myriad of seedy individuals, for whom there is no greater goal than to perform debased and lascivious acts, with those blessed few capable of consistent creation; for they too engage in that all too familiar, yet repulsive and odious, practice. If I were to make an assertion, I would state that the progenitor of this pedestrian work likely enjoys relationships of the... Hellenic persuasion.

Disgraced wizards that were kicked out of wizard school for poor behaviour, these wizards tend to have poor tempers and will waste their spells more easily and quickly. Alternatively, they instead might be friends with a member of the team, and have decided to become the logistics person for the team. I'm such cases they rarely enter the fray themselves, would be more utility based, and would probably spend most their time checking and organising the company's funds and resources and other pencil pusher stuff.

Sorcerers. Used to being ostracized for their powers, they fall into mercenary bands easily. Their power requires little training, and can be useful for.demolitions work.

Alchemist for a.mix of the previous two, plus he can double as the company medic/triage expert, or the explosive ordinance expert.

Investigators are good for either being an information/numbers guy, an enforcer/security person, or similar jobs to the alchemist.

Magus is obvious.

Warpriest and a combat cleric make for excellent chaplains, and can act as both the medical aid and the spiritual/psychiatric aid. Basically Father John Mulcahy from M*A*S*H*

Rangers and Hunters work well as scouts, recon, survival experts, and potentially for infiltration and skirmishes.

Bards and Skalds are good for keeping morale, providing some combat aid and triage, and are excellent for group efforts as someone who can provide and deliver orders and rally the troops

The other casters aren't really too well suited for the Mercenary life

If I thought you were some killer DM or something maybe I'd think differently, but I've seen no evidence of it. Instead it's much more likely the game will be a snoozefest that peters out after a couple months, which is what happens to most games that try to put "intrigue" into Pathfinder.

>>
>>54568578
You've hit the nail on the head. You're too much of an unknown factor because all you've got is your screeching namefaggotry in these threads, which doesn't do you any favors. To make an "intrigue" game in Pathfinder and actually make it intriguing requires a lot of talent from the DM and a pretty specific player environment. Your game isn't a lucrative investment in terms of time when compared to the risk that it will suck.
>>
>>54568650
be honest, it's not like anyone here gives a damn what a game will be like. They just care about how to get their dicks wet and the next new celeb app is.
>>
>>54568670
Yes, this is also true. Most players don't know what they want. Plenty of people around here are just looking for a game, any game. You can't go into an "intrigue" game with that kind of attitude.
>>
>>54568445
That's part of why I didn't specify an exact enemy type for the target. It could be a dungeoncrawl, but it could also be an extraplanar trek or a minscape exploration.

I didn't want the applications to suffer from "well, if it's an archdevil, then the best build is Smitemeister3000" type floods. the ideal character is capable of coping with a ty least two or three possibilities, especially since it must be a group effort to locate a viable target (which is partly determined by how well their research on each target goes).

So, a little planning, a little luck, and some good ideas from the players on how to get the information they want to go after the target they think they can take best.
>>
>>54568650
the difficult part is that the material i can put out to give proof of stuff would spoil the plot of the campaign which kinda ruins the intrigue aspect
so i must hold back and simply meme
>>
>>54568871
The campaign confuses me a lot.
Are we supposed to be heirs? Why are we supposed to be godhunting?
It's really hard to write a character right now due to scarcity of information.

>>
>>54568996
Essentially, you are heirs to an empire of city states who are out to slay something godlike to prove you are worthy to take your thrones/places. The divine right to rule grants you mythic power, the royal bloodlines grant you gestalt ability. It's meant to be a "one shot" meaning it will be a short series of information gathering followed by a hunt/entry/locating the quarry....then killing it. Or, dying horribly.

The background is simply to provide access to the information the players seek to choose their quarry, more than a "you must fit your character into this mold".
>>
>>54569171
>The background is simply to provide access to the information the players seek to choose their quarry, more than a "you must fit your character into this mold".
So basically we can be anyone, even unrelated to the existing houses by blood, the point is that we want to kill something divine to justify a right to rule?
>It's meant to be a "one shot"
One of the biggest problems IMO.
Making a character at that high power is a large effort investment. Far too high of an investment for a one-shot game.
>>
>>54569171
Corollary to that will be the three campaign traits - Heir to Family (you are a royal who will one day rule one of the City-States), Heir To Throne (you will one day challenge the high Lord for his throne and serve as guide for the royal families) and Outsider (you are an ancient and powerful mythic tiered gestalt character from outside Kelemekos, allowed to join the hunt to prove you may found a royal family line of your own).

Naturally this is huge amounts of information to take in, which is why the process of puttign it together is a little slow, but i expect people will revamp/adjust/fine tune their characters a couple of times before the end of the time.

Not to mention writing up Mythic Initiation. But it's an opportunity to think about what you might like to build in the meantime.
>>
>>54568871
Seems Monster Hunter-y. Or God Eater to be more appropriate. I can dig that.
>>
>>54569191
Yes.

And that is possible. Irt may be I get nothign in the way of applications. I am hopeful, but it'll take time and effort to prove that it's worthwhile .
And face it, we all build characters just because on occasion....so this is one time you can take a long time to think it out and tinker with it and then throw it up against something you'll never otherwise get to fight.
>>
>>54569230
Is the listed time on the page the actual time you plan to run the session?
If so, I may be able to make it.
>>
>>54569251
It depends on availability as always. I run middle of the night or early morning PST.
>>
>>54569230
I unfortunately just don't feel a one-shot is worth the steep entry barrier.
I've been making actively creating a character for this for a while by now, but realising it's a one-shot made me drop the idea.

>>54569387
Then I wish you good luck with other games, anon, and appreciate the thought.

What's a man to do when they like the implications and sticking-power of the Guardian Mythic Path, but the harder you squint at Champion the harder it is to deny that's the best Path for a melee-focused Martial?

Like, I'm looking at these DR abilities and despairing because, if we're starting at level 20/M 10, I know every single enemy we fight can bypass Epic or Adamantine or whatever anyway. What's a man to do to become the Rock when we're fighting hurricanes right out the gate?

>I agree that Patricius is well written.

No, he's really not.

Don't get me wrong, the details and the character are fine. The way the player has written the background though, isn't. It's a literary mess.

For one thing, Patricius' name isn't even IN his background until the third paragraph. Due to this and the choice of when to punctuate, it feels like I'm being forcefully pulled from moment to moment of his history.

So many of the sentences are just singular statements, so it does not flow well at all. Like I said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the story behind it. He's probably done the most research or was already familiar with the setting beforehand, but I just HATE how it was written.

>>54568385
I'm just going to adjust that too
>Why haven't you made a character for Intrigue yet, anon?

Because unique campaign traits scare me. It puts you in direct competition with others who use the trait, and I've had a bad history of "You're app was good, but I liked this one who does your role a little better" or "They talked to me more through the app process" or the ever infuriating "They improved their app more over the app process".

Unique campaign traits just enhances that problem. I understand not wanting to have half the party be made up of people who want to seduce their kin, but I just don't like the alternative.

>Falcone, who plays Walnut Dankgrass, a Druid who is very militantly always on the side of nature, approached her character creation from three axes. First, as a queer woman: “I think I always make my characters queer, because I am and, at this point, I would feel weird consciously making one straight. It just wouldn’t feel right. With Walnut, she just IS queer, there’s no question.” Second, as an aware person at this particular political moment in the United States: “…we started creating our characters right around the time that it became clear our government wasn’t going to make ecological preservation a priority. I was pissed off and wanted to make a wildly nature focused character, of course, a druid was the obvious choice.” And lastly as a gamer:

>“When it comes to making builds, I do tend to min/max… to a point. I am heavily into the roleplaying side of things and so I did make some choices with Walnut that are not “optimal” for her build, but make sense with her backstory. I think you have to make compromises. At first, I really was trying to make her a perfectly efficient fighter, but that just doesn’t always go along with the story or who she is. She isn’t perfect, and I don’t think her build needs to be either. Instead of trying to focus on being a tank or a DPS, I just let her situation dictate how she is going to fight. Is she worked up? Angry? Emotionally compromised? Then she’s probably going to turn into a wolf and do a few bites. If she can keep her cool and think it out (hardly ever happens), she has other skills that help dissolve conflict.”

I... I don't see how that deals with "toxic masculinity" at all, is that just a buzzword they use because it's chic and fashionable to beat up men in our current generation? Because this seems like a very boring and very traditional "build the character, then the sheet" type discussion.

Really, the more I look at this the more I realize they straight-up wrote an article about something everyone's doing already.

unique is a strong word. preferred non duplicates yes, but i have been thinking of adding a few, along with the faction update. besides you can always talk to me if you feel like the market is saturated on your preferred trait! some are obviously more enforced (like th karvane company trait) but i will not dodge a good app just for having a wrong trait. you may at worst have to coordinate with others of the same or get convinced to switch to something else that fits. dont be afraid anon!
>>
>>54570127
I'd argue that toxic masculinity is kind of a real thing, but it definitely is a buzzword first a foremost and since it's a buzzword, it's definition is getting more and more stretched with every passing month.

What I would call toxic masculinity is situations like a group of drunk frat boys utterly thrashing neighbors cars and houses just because they are young, dumb, drunk and surrounded by other young dumb and drunk assholes. When you are doing things to prove your "manliness" with major expense to others, that's toxic by definition.

What it ISN'T is "I feel uncomfortable with all the straight people I see in tabletop gaming."

>>54570102
>Queer up Faerun
