The dungeon is a dormant mimic, sleeping while the PCs explore inside. It's got a brain somewhere in there that somebody else is trying to reach to wake it up. If the scuffle ends up in the brain chamber, the players need to be careful not to hit said brain.

I had a party fight their way through a dungeon, open the chest at the end and find a very obviously magic sword. The sword was a mimic, then I had to retcon because of people raging out about it.
