What are some non-combat career fields that adventurers can enter relatively easy.?

> druid becomes a shepherd
> wizard/bard becomes a school teacher

For the sake of argument, the character retired before max level.

>All martials can become members of a local militia or instructors.

But yeah most PC classes would end up as teachers.

I'm sorry? Why would a wizard ever debase themselves to doing technically manual labor for someone else? They'd become apothecaries, seers, and cunning men long before they stoop to using their mastery over time and space to stack bricks for John Jackoff's new wall.
>>
I didn't bust my ass saving the kingdom so I could work for a living. If I get out of this alive it's not without at least a barony or maybe a sinecure at wizard college.

fighters and barbarians could become sportsmen
rangers could easily be guides, trackers, trappers and hunters (does that count as combat?), or indeed park rangers
rogues could become politicans, diplomats, insurance salesmen, etc
clerics are self-explanatory

hardest is paladin because fighting evil is burned into the inner core of their being. they'd probably retire and become quiet farmers but you know someone is going to burn down their farm someday and they'll have to get out their sword for one last job.
>>
>>54462164
I'd say paladins can also become simple priests too, healing the sick and contemplating the divine.
And occasionally setting the local rapscallions straight be reminding them they are the god's wrath made manifest on this world... and littering is bad.

That's the default state for every caster class but Sorcerers, you pud! Spending eight hours poring through books and thinking very hard or communing with spirits is how most casters rest!

A spellsword could probably dabble in smithing. Their talent for magic would make crafting magic gear a breeze, and they're very familiar with the use of weaponry and armor so they'd probably have a better sense for that kind of thing than a full-caster.

I think it's more a comment on how economically powerful just a handful of spells can be if put to use.

Hell, in "free cantrips" games like pathfinder you could be the best laundry service in the realm by yourself without any overhead like soap just spamming Prestidigitation all day.

The "construction wizard" in question would never actually have to touch any stone or wood and would have the INT to learn architecture quite well.

>Fighter
Depends on initial success, gear and build, expect them to end up as tutors, returning to their hometown and raising a family, marrying into royalty, establishing a kingdom, or getting a barony in some inhospitable location for their acquired deeds, or continuing their mercenary ways till they die. Training a country's army or working for a knighthood, guild etc, can always be possibilities also, their ability scores work wonders for most forms of DIY, so the life of a frontiersman comes to mind
>Wizard
Depends on chosen flaws, school specialization, faith, race, assets aquired, and level cap for the entirety of the campaign and story next to the feats the wizard worked with along the way, many variables present
>Rogue
Thieves guild, assassins guild or retirement, working as a fence, possibly long-term single
>Ranger
Lives and dies in the forest, or dies hunting getting shat out by a bear, couldn't ask for better if he tried, that, or dies trying to imitate 420Drizzt.
>Warlock
Usually ends up an outsider or a part of an outsiders court as one, I won't cover that Far Realm 4e bullshit with the star crap, 4e's Far Realm is positive ass.
>Dread Necromancer
They always end up the default MM-WE Humanoid only template applied Lich, so there's not much to go on beyond them becoming Demiliches after that and doing Epic-Level hijinks, next to tutelege, publishing of dark tomes, aiming for godhood, creation and effective management of Demiplanes using their demilich granted abilities, starting a cult or the like. Dread Necro's are those born with necromancy as a gift opposed to outright research skill and effort, and tend to be associated with a given Necromancy based Outsider, may serve them on a higher level or work in the clergy and faith.
>Death Master
Horrible Lich General of Orcus's armies or basically the level 30 guy from Throne of Bloodstone, not much else.
>Wu-Jen
Gensokyo-ass top Weeb bullshit that's next level asian, get married and tutor people mostly.
>>
>>54464179
>Deathwalker
These guys are all about controlling the undead in order to become as such by constant corruption, so they're big on gathering armies, and conquering things, they've large Undead Control, so they're very obsessed with having something of their own.
>Fleshcrafter
Dr. Victor Von Frakenstein, supplies grafts, Flesh Golems that can pass off as the living, kills people making it look like he's healing them with Heal skill checks, use Coup De Grace as a standard action using his knowledge of anatomy, and is always out for human bodies so he can further his research
>Soul Reaper
Epic-Level Mask of the Betrayer tier threat, this prick doesn't just kill people, he often ERASES THEM or binds them to service in anguish enduing ways that errode who they are and were and is adept with the use of incorporeal creatures, this guy is out to violate the sanctity of the dead in any location, he is an afterlife rapist, and get's high skill checks, such as being able to understand any language he wants using the amalgamation of all souls he's raped into a single familiar that obeys him no matter what at threat of torture, including using any feat he qualifies for for 1 minute (yeah, that's fucking broken under certain conditions) or he shoves it into a skeleton to work for him, and this cunt gets two bonus feats, this is broken because if he takes the Planar Touchstone feat he get's a free Domain power to use with the spells under special conditions, and he can technically gain abilities only DEITIES have access to if he makes himself qualify, But he'd take the Spirit domain for more soul-binding evil and the ability to make working vooodoo dolls because he's basically the Necromancer version of Diviner but worse.

Because it doesn't always fit the concept of the campaign setting for things to make sense or be easily financially viable. It also requires the knowledge of the Spell to be present, available, and definitely not horded away by secret-worshiping mages and clerics who want to keep the majority of the peasant rabble population and preferably as much of the noble rabble population as ignorant and meek as possible to maintain their superiority.

But since power tends to fall into the hands of predatory and ambitious individuals who will snipe potential usurpers, a lot of magical settings are locked in a per-renaisance situation. If I understand it right the basis for a lot of "magic hasn't ruined the world or fixed everything forever yet" settings have organizations that actively limit magical know-how and even mundane education and technology for thing like gunpowder and alchemy to avoid armed warfare from escalating past swords and spears and axes and shields and if you're Really smart long-bows and horses.
>>
>>54471750
Most campaigns don't make sense. Magic's impact on society is normally ignored same way any social or technological differences are.

Magic lacking any real danger or effort and not being particularly hard to learn and having unclear fluff requirements like in D&D would have massive social and economic impact on society, yet they all still seem to be nice romanticized feudal worlds.

Mine retired to be an alchemist/herbalist and village healer after taking, I shit you not, an arrow to the knee in a rather low(er) magic campaign. It didn't heal right, leaving her with a bad limp and nastier pain if she pushed too hard, like she would wearing half plate and busting in cultist enclaves.

So she settled down as an alchemist and non/low-magic healer in some small farming town, married a good-humored young man, and happily raised (and eventually trained) two daughters.

My merciful healer cleric is a chef whenever we're in town. It's also super useful while traveling too. Everyone likes a nice meal!

Our gm is nice and lets us use our professions with points/ranks in them as more than just money. If I roll well enough while we rest, the meal I prepare gives us an extra max hp point or some other small benefit he fluffs at the time. It's very nice.

I threw a few ranks in Clothier as well, and whenever we kill a noteworthy mean animal the party fighter/barb has me add a token to his jacket, so he has owlbear feathers and bear pelts and stuff like that, and he gets bonuses on intimidating people who like those animals or the animals themselves if they're intelligent enough to recognize. It's really neat and a nice way for the party to interact.

After my adventuring days I plan on being a chef!

People talk about thicc a lot. but for a retired adventurer? its the most likely thing to happen.

High active lifestyle diet when that life style stops? Combined with the fair assumption that adventurers that retire rather than die are more likely to be somewhat wealthy, and you get a great deal of softening.

Something that happens a staggeringly amount in the real world. The more focused and honed your craft is, the harder it is to get back into a field that will utilize those exact skill sets. The thing with paladins is that they, by nature, do not come with an off switch. If they are not actively fighting or on their way to fight evil, they are preparing to fight evil, or training the new paladins to fight evil. Their oath, their purpose, their quest, allows for nothing less. The oldest and most infirm (if they haven't died first, or gone senile) will be writing tomes of lore and expounding on the nature of what is 'good', still arming and preparing others for the fight, but with decades or centuries of wisdom, rather than steel and strength.

I'm not him but also entirely off topic. I was making a character related to the Spanish Inquisition. I found a rather shocking realization as to just how long it ran.

Without googling - when do you think the Spanish Inquisition occurred?

Now google it's running date and tell me if you were right.

EzAnswer:
1478 - 1834. I thought it was like 1200-1500. Fuck I am bad at history. Also fuck the Inquisition was still going when America became America. Even if it was mostly on paper at the time.

Becoming an innkeeper at an establishment frequented by younger adventurers would seem to satisfy both the OP's goals in creating this thread, providing a career for retired adventures and promote THICKNESS in general.

All kidding aside, I do think that becoming an innkeeper would be a good career for a retired adventurer. A good inn in a good locale is a good way to invest a bit of your loot and provides a secure and stable living while still letting you rub shoulders with interesting folk from all over, bringing tales and information to your door that you might be able to turn into more profit by passing along tips, tricks and jobs to the next generation of adventurers.

A female adventure whose active life style but over indulgence in her hedonistic traits whose retired would probably end up getting nicely plump yet would wear her newly attained adiposity with fashionable flair. Like a lazy sorceress, or retired femknight. They'd reside in some cozy well-traveled inn, getting drunk and bragging of their past adventures to younger greenhorns looking to get famous while paying to hear her stories of past glories with ample servings of food and drink.

Members of your wife's old adventuring party drop in from time to time:

The Cleric, whose stern piety has only increased with age, but whom your wife can always manage to pry a wry smile or two from with her recollections of they adventures they'd shared.

The Fighter who has retired, alone, to a farm in the countryside for some peace and quiet, but who makes sure to bring fresh fruits and vegetables for you both when he comes to visit.

The Bard, who stays at your inn for several days at a time, performing songs of daring-do for your guests, peppered with folksy stories and the occasional ode to your wife's beauty.

The Ranger, who's Elvish heritage means that she hasn't aged a day since she and your wife traveled together, and who can still bring out that silly, girlish side of her whenever she's around.

The Elf Ranger chick also gets plump. But unlike your human wife, Elven women can not lose their extra padding. So while she still says impish and young with her nigh immortality delaying her aging to a glacial crawl, the Ranger will end up getting steadily plumper. You and your old comrades will also tease her and your wife for their more plumper forms.

You always prevent the Bard from trying to get a threesome with the Ranger and your soulmate. Bards are sneaky bastards like that after all.

But time continues to past. And hedonistic glories conflating with relaxed nature spent in gregarious reveries with her old comrades-at-arms took its toll on her already softening figure, lending more ample expanses to her rump and the rest of her feminine curves. In fact as the Ranger and her adventuring friends continued to stay at your inn, the days blur to weeks and melt into months with constant visits and extended holidays as she develops into a huskier woman.

Not a man would complain.

Even a few human women weren't beyond attraction to the haunting beauty of an elven lass. And a larger than life one with all the supplementary added plumping and thickened figure only enhanced her reputation and desire in her callers. The inn would only get even more roudy but you would wink to the Bard with a knowing smile and twinkle in your eyes as you all enjoy a quiet night around a campfire in the Inn's back patio, smiling and thinking of the future as the two women shared laughs and drinks with beloved friends.

>>
>>54500084
The elven bread in Tolkien's Legendarium. A single loaf is supposed to provide all the nourishment you need even after a day of marching, so it makes excellent travel rations (and unlike most rations, it also tastes really good).

It providing that much energy would imply that it'd probably have a lot of calories so eating lots of it while not engaging in physically strenuous activity like adventuring would probably cause you to put on weight.
>>
>>54500589
How much would it take to get an elven ranger chubby?
>>
>>54500667
Considering that lembas is supposed to be traditional elven food (so elves presumably eat it relatively often) and you never see a fat elf, could be that elves have very high metabolism. Why else would they make their bread super rich in energy? So fattening an elf would probably take a LOT of food.
>>
>>54500712
What if said Elf Ranger in question was no longer active so she never performed the necessary physical regimens or activities required to burn off said caloric intake? Or maybe she just eats human food and it ignores her high metabolism tailored specifically from warding off gaining additional weight and viola, she chubs up in a few years from that?
>>
>>54500409
Depends, does the protagonist end up with a harem end or has to choose one of the girls to end up with after the story is done? Would it be the main romance interest who gets thicker or all of the girls do regardless? Would it be to a tasteful form or just plain ludicrous given the medium here is fantasy?

What about races and classes? Would we have a human girl, a elven girl, a half-elf girl, a demon chick, an Orc chick, etc..?
>>

>Your wife and the elven Ranger get to reminiscing about a particularly tricky bit of business they'd pulled off, ousting a renegade wizard from some ruins he'd holed up in outside a little fishing village.

>The Bard plays some nautical tunes suitable for the story, the Fighter and the Cleric nodding along and adding their own recollections as you refresh the ladies' refreshments for the fifth time that evening.

>Your wife thanks you with a warm smile and a peck on the cheek, while the Ranger is too engrossed in her retelling of the story, pantomiming more energetically than a woman her size ought to be able.

>The rest of the old party watch the elf's antics with familiar expressions of amusement on their faces, the Bard matching his music to every animated jiggle and bounce that accompanied the Ranger's tale.

>With a happy, girlish laugh that sent her own expansive figure wobbling, your wife tells the Ranger that she remember how the elf has scaled the wall and snuck inside the ruined keep to unlock the door for them.

>True to form, the Ranger grins widely and boasts that she could still pull such a climb off, even in her "semi-retirement," to which the rest of the party scoffs and teases her again about how soft she'd gotten.

>Putting her hands on her wide, wide hips and wearing an even bigger grin than the elf, your wife dares the Ranger to try and climb the walls of the inn to the window of her room up on the third floor.

>With the bravado of a woman half her weight or less, the Ranger accepts your wife's dare and strides confidently over to the stone wall of the inn, throwing a cocky little smirk back over her shoulder.

>With the Bard playing some suitably dramatic music and the rest of her party watching, the Ranger begins to climb, letting out soft grunts of exertion peppered with choice elven expletives.
>>
>>54502194
>Slowly but surely she climbs, her sizable rear sways from side to side, big belly scraping audibly against the stone as she makes her way higher and higher, all the way up to the window of her room.

>Letting out an exhausted but victorious shout as her party mates applaud, the Ranger attempts to throw herself through the opening, only to her herself stuck, wedged in tightly against the window frame.

>The Ranger's victory shout became an alarmed squawk and the party's applause became raucous laughter as they realize what had happened, the force of your wife's belly laugh nearly unbalancing her.

>She leans heavily against you for support, her extravagantly full figure bouncing and wobbling as she gasps for breath, tears running down her cheeks, and you laugh as well, holding her close.

Would the quest take place while they were young adventurers, growing chubbier through some means, or would they be retired adventurers, already pretty large, that have had to "get the band back together?"
>>
>>54504207
Not him but I was thinking maybe they'd start young and stay in shape till retirement. Or we could mix and match it. I guess another important qualifier is how "big" they would get?
>>
>>54504228
I wasn't sure fiber were going with the "cursed" party angle someone suggested, or if they would be coming out of retirement to go on some quest, or if we would be doing a more slice-of-life sort of thing.

As to bigness... I thing that there could and should be a range of bigness amongst the characters. The Human Sorceress we've established is super voluptuous and seems to grow more and more so each year, while the Elven Ranger is bottom-heavy, "fat-thletic," and smaller than the Sorceress.
>>
>>54504191
I wrote the "Ranger's Climb" blurb and want to help out as well, but I'm at work and and wouldn't be able to manage any writing more strenuous than that for a while. I do want to see this get a quest though.
>>
>>54504228
Depends on what you want.

If you do it as a quest, you could always do "Elven Ranger Quest" and start with her running out of lembas bread, and having to eat more fattening foods. Making choosing when to indulge be an option in thread, allowing for the thread goers to determine.

Start off slowly, her noticing a bit more flab, resolving to work it off; only to find that harder.
Exercising just makes her appetite greater, prompting her to gorge when she finally gets a chance to eat - making her increase a bit more in size.
>>
>>54505912
That could work out well, and have the potential to get more fantastical through the application of curses and the like should people want that.
>>
>>54505912
So, are we focusing on this elvish tomboy ranger as our main character?
>>
>>54506058
And other companions could be added.

You could run into a witch with a gingerbread cottage holding someone prisoner.
>>
>>54506115
>>54506114
Elven Tomboy Ranger can be the main character, and meet others along the way who are likewise growing larger, or who have already grown very large, or have some sort of interest in our girl growing larger.
>>
>>54506058
Could even start with her getting cursed.

The quest is her trying to get it lifted before it goes too far and her lithe elven body swells and bulges, straining her outfit until it breaks, exposing her flabby flesh to the world, and leaving her helpless.
>>
>>54506203
Yeah, imagine her running into a chef, who wants to use the ranger as a taste tester, offering various magical recipes which grant bonuses, but all affect her body as well.
>>
>>54506203
Wait I thought the Elf Ranger's partner, the protagonist's wife, was the main character with said self-insert?
>>
Do we need a pastebin or a discord?
>>
>>54506265
I like that idea. Maybe she does a little temple-raiding, stealing some Venus of Willendorf-esque idol and is cursed to grow larger and larger by the goddess it belongs.

Perhaps by the time she realizes that she's cursed, the idol has already been sold and she needs to track across the continent so that she can return it before she grows to positively in-elven proportions.

>>54506302
Some chefs may just want her to try their food, seeing her as someone who clearly likes to eat. Some may offer her food because they think she'll want it. Some though may just want to see her get bigger and bigger. A love interest perhaps, and our girl will have to decide if their love is worth the weight.

Also, it looks like this bread has but the bump limit. Should we make a plan in thread in /qst/? Are those allowed?
>>
>>54506462
I think it goes: protagonist's socereress wife > ranger > rest of the party + protagonist.
>>
>>54506462
I think that's the question some of us are asking. The original idea was a self-insert main character with several large ladies as supporting characters, but some folks are suggesting the the elf be the main character with the large ladies on the side instead.

>>
>>54507608
I was just thinking in general, seeing as how the Sorceress will be the main character and how we've already established in this thread that she has the capacity to grow very, VERY large. Plus, as a magic-user, she can probably get pretty darn huge before she loses ALL her combat utility.

Also, while I really like the idea of telling the story in a series of flashbacks told around the hearth at the inn after the cozy times set in, doing so will limit what happens to the characters and how big they can ultimately get by the end.
