What do you guys think of GMs and players that read off pre-written speeches from notepads?
For example, my GM gave his BBEG a long speech, that was really interesting and cool, but he just read it off from his notebook. It felt... cheapened.
And at times when I played religious characters, and wanted to recite scripture for effect, i would wrack my brain trying to speak only from memory, and end up stuttering and losing the effect.
Would it be better to write things down for recitation, or to memorize and gamble on your memory?

I'd much prefer to know that my DM took the time to make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible than for him to wing it and hope he covers all the points he wanted to.

If I ever see a GM doing that I always find a way to cut it short by attacking or casting a spell like silence etc. Fuck your exposition I want to have fun and roll dice.

As a Priest, you have license to recite from a book.

A scholar would prefer to stop, open his favorite book and quote a few paragraphs when appropriate.
In merely pragmatical terms, why not write down some ideas and check your notes every now and then during the session? Same as if you were looking up your AC, you are searching for what uncle Angus told you if you ever went up against a Gelatinous Cube.
