If you think about it, the Magic Duels gave us a new game format
>It has its own deckbuilding rules (Only one copy of each mrare/two copies of each rare/ three copies of each uncommon and four copies of each common per deck)
>no sideboard
>Restricted to Origins and past-origins sets
How would it work on paper?
Well, it's over now, we didn't get Hour of Devastation and won't get any new set either. Was fun while it lasted.

I think the restriction by rarity is fine to forcefully make the game cheaper. It also could make the decks less consistent and reliable on obviously broken cards.
The no sideboard rule I think is a little silly, as they make some matchups much more fair. Assuming they print most of the pure hate cards as rares I think it would be fine.
The card pool should be as large as possible, there's no sense in restricting it. You still can play different formats if you wish.

its an interesting format but it was bogged down really hard by how hard it is to get singles with no trade or crafting system. I would have liked to see how it curbed the traditional midrange mythics decks and the gideon decks
