I need some interesting ideas for planets for players to visit in a space opera. Almost every colonized planet is human. I have about ten right now, but I need more, with cool weather effects, weird cultures, and strange governments. Any kind of weird 'alternate' technology ideas would be great appreciated. In exchange, I'll post some space art.

What kind of level of technology can we work with here.

A very earth like planet only it's even more covered by water, some where near 90% with several shallow seas. It's a pretty nice planet over all other than the hypercanes. The populace has worked around these by building reinforced domed over cities on land and submersible cities out on the shelves of the shallow seas.

What about watching from a distance?

OP here. FTL technology is common, FTL communication doesn't exist besides messenger ships. Immortality doesn't exist, but long lives do. AI doesn't exist.
A carbon planet, where carbon is more common than oxygen.
Imagine a beach. A nice sandy beach witch some rocks on the edge of a sea. Blue sky and puffy white clouds.
Now imagine the sand is actually black pebbles of graphite, the sea is multiple different hydrocarbons, and the rocks are enormous diamond boulders. The sky is yellow and the clouds are greasy black, also hydrocarbons. Also, if it's in the habitable zone, the world is probably extremely hot due to greenhouse effects.

Planet of militarists who are obsessed with turning their world into one massive fortress (which is a long term project as they wish to eventually literally convert it entirely), currently with millions of missile silos and massive guns cooled via the oceans and other defensive emplacements covering the surface. They are theocratic with a sort of religion which worships military equipment and aesthetics although it lacks any gods or outright mystical elements. Their cities are all heavily armoured arcology fortresses, both above and below ground. They are somewhat isolationist but would jump at the chance to wage righteous war against some sort of invading alien entity. They decorate their military equipment in an almost tribalistic fashion (think Vietnam or African warlords, but more refined) and actually have a large artistic culture with this unique style.
I like water planets, and in my ideal one the natives never really moved past battleships instead of switching to aircraft carriers and cruisers. Only at this point the battleships' big guns are beam cannons and the ships have deflector shields.
Every major battle for them is the Battle of Jutland.
