The Ethereals are somewhat implied to know more about Chaos and daemons than they're letting on, and are spinning propoganda to the Tau about them being aliens if they're ever encountered.

Tau society relies heavily on strict control with plenty of reinforcement by Ethereals. Imagine 1984 but Big Brother wasn't always around.

Their plan so far is shooting demons until the demons go away. As for corruption, the Greater Good has so far proven to be waaaaay better at curbing Chaos worship than any Imperial Creed. The Tau, as a people, generally dont find the standard Chaos offer of otherworldly power to be attractive. They arent buying what Chaos is selling.
