Why is this a thing? It pidgeonholes you into only playing energy cards and creates no synergy with other sets, only those in Kaladesh and Aether Revolt.
How would you have done energy instead?

You can make more energy counters with Proliferate, right? It's not as bad as Arcane cards, which are completely dependent on using more cards from a single block

Most things that spend energy give or make energy tho. Without other cards it becomes charge counters that you can spend on anything. It's not parasitic as Arcane

I think a better question is what would YOU have done instead? Considering your complaints, I figure you have an alternative.

Only because they haven't had a chance to. They've learned their lesson from Kamigawa, though. "Energy" is generic enough to shoehorn into any plane, so it could be used again.
