Hmmm....

Been rattling around an idea for a game.

>A Calamity occurs.
>The planes have broken off from the prime material, gods and outsiders died off or have been unreachable.
>The god of Fortune, Heroism, and Light was on the plane at the time, bestowing blessings on pilgrims in his holy city, and keeled over dead. As his body decays, the land around it decays as well. Giving rise to hellish scavengers.
>Magic is becoming less and less predictable, many mages lost their powers all together, the remaining were driven to madness; resulting resulting in the near total destruction of both the intelligentsia and the clergy.
>Ground Zero for the event was once a thriving metropolis, before being reduced to a scorching desert of ash and sand.
>A desert that grows bigger by the day. Consuming all in its path.
>Fast forward fifty years.
>Fully a third of the world has been consumed in Sand.
>Temperatures have been steadily rising, fucking with weather and agriculture.
>Stars and other celestial bodies have been disappearing.
>The only two nations almost entirely unaffected have been conquering their weakened neighbors, and are now engaged in a bloody war with each other.
>Reports have been cropping up from all over the world of people experiencing vivid dreams of walking into the Sand. For many it becomes a compulsion.
>Others begin seeing things yet to come.
>Still more see a void, swallowing up the stars one by one.
>Each member of the party sees an angel. One, extending a hand.

25 PB, 3rd level start, PoW, Legendary games, and Jolly allowed. Core Paizo races only.

No full casters. No Summoning.
>>
So I want to make a skeletor-esque character for a city campaign. I have got lich approved, but what class should I play? I'm thinking arcanist, but what class should I play, and what spells should I grab? Starting at level 7 (level 5 for me)

Native outsiders died off or went mad when the Calamity occurred. If any remain, they'd be rare to the extreme.

You are right, these are adorable.
A first level character only has a DC 11 spellcraft to make one to boot.. Though under the familiar rule I want to say that's a typo and it means that it's Int increases to its Wis, not the other way around.
Craft Poppet being a gateway to craft Construct later is a nice little touch to.

Barbarian (Savage Technologist) gives you a bonus to Strength and Dexterity, not Strength and Constitution. You can very easily portray this as the Nobleman getting in "the zone" during combat.

Because the emphasis is on the "Outsider" part, not the native part.

They're angels, demons, genies, what have you, that either chose to live as mortals or were cast out to atone for some sin.The spiritual being binds itself to cells in utero, though such a process is difficult, and requires some sort of catalyst to allow fusion. Thus, why certain stimuli are likely to produce native outsider children.

The outsider then lives, and eventually dies, as a mortal. With their previous life being little more than half remembered fragments, or instinctual reactions. (Thus the bonus language, the skill bonuses, etc.)

The Calamity either stripped the outsider's soul away, leaving a lifeless husk, or left a stunted and malformed human soul, that had been fighting for dominance with the outsider.

Ok, so you know how outsiders exist, things like angels, and demons

They're extraplanar, and thus can be banished back to their home plane

Native outsiders cannot be banished to their home plane, because the material plane IS their home plane.

Do you see how your 'oh they're just like angels possessing a human body' makes no fucking sense now. Because that's not what a native outsider is.

This isn't 'golautism', this is THE RULES OF THE FUCKING GAME.

They're not fusing their souls with mortals, they are outsiders BORN ONTO THIS PLANE, their souls are OF THE MATERIAL PLANE, thats why they can be resurrected and shit ON THE MATERIAL PLANE.

Furthermore, Outsiders are not a separate soul and body, those are one and the same, they're not spiritual beings.
>>
>>54190770
And in his setting that is clearly not the case. He's the GM, he can decide how outsiders work in his setting. If you're upset you can't play your super hung and perfect aasimer hunk, then don't apply.

Thus the native body. The body that is completely of this Plane. The body that makes its home on the Plane. They can't be banished because they're a parasitic consciousness, not an actual outsider. They take the spot the soul would fit into or (very rarely) displace an existing soul.

>Outsiders are not a separate soul and body, those are one and the same, they're not spiritual beings.

Should I go with a Wizard, or a Sorcerer? If Sorcerer, should I go with the Elemental or Stormblooded bloodline?

Again with the fluff.
I'm not worried about the DM fluffing it, I'm concerned that the DM got rid of races under some ridiculous pretense that doesn't fall in line with how the system functions.
Slippery slope might be a fallacy, but it can certainly apply in cases like this.

Medic is neat as fuck, but I don't think it would be a very good class for the campaign. She's a level 1 commoner any damage dealt to her is pretty much going to killer her outright. I'd focus more on buffing, giving her nautral attacks(she has deadly agility and EVERYONE is proficient with natural weapons which are also light), and getting her into places where she can either run away or attack with impunity.

Sorcerer is generally better for blasting, either one of those bloodlines would do you good, its mostly personal preference. If you were to go wizard, just load up on metamagic feats. Your lightning schtick wont come active for rea until around level 5, past level 5 you can start adding a ton of metamagic to them to increase effects even further. But in general lightning is a safe choice for energy because less creatures are immune to it compared to fire or cold. I would also recommend grabbing the powers which allow you to switch energy types of spells to your preferred. Fireball becomes lightning ball.

I give out maneuver-granting items, actually. The recovery method is just full-round for chosen-mental-stat number of maneuvers refreshed.

They refresh separately if you have a progression already. When PoW characters wear those, it just increases the number of things they can do with their actions, nothing scary. When non-PoW characters wear those, it increases their power and effectiveness. They're as potentially strong as the PoW characters, but they don't have the breadth of options they do.

If I take an Ioun Wyrd as my familiar, do I have to pay the money needed to craft one? Or is that cost only for if I make one with the Craft Construct feat without making it my familiar?

Also, if I have the Craft Construct feat, can I use that feat to modify my familiar?

Also also, does the familiar getting to use my HD allow an Ioun Wyrd to have multiple ioun stones integrated into it with its Ioun Affinity ability?

Also also also, familiars are suppose to become magical beasts. Is an Ioun Wyrd I have as a familiar a construct or a magical beast? Do I need Mending/Make Whole or Cure Light Wounds to heal it?

Also also also also, is there some point to the Ioun Affinity ability that I'm missing? I mean, sure, I don't have a magic rock flying around my head and looking super obvious if it's integrated into the Wyrd, but that seems a little minor. Ioun stones are slotless items so it's not like this lets me use extra stones.

Jesus Christ.

I left for an hour and this went to shit.

Okay, so to explain...

>Why no Native Outsiders?

One of the major themes of the game, and the world as a whole, is the collapse of the cosmic order. The planes are meant to have withdrawn completely, outsiders can no longer be relied on, there's no certainty in the afterlife, etc.

I feel like having a bunch of angel/devilkin running around undermines that theme. If people are *really* concerned with the mechanical side of it, I'm willing to be flexible and work something out.

>Why no other races?

Some of them don't exist (Catfolk, Android, Kitsune), some of them are incompatible with the adventure (a gnoll or a goblin couldn't walk into a major city), and some of them are just off on the fringes of civilization, and will likely be added if I go through this in more depth.
>>
If we're on the topic of animal husbandry and farm life, I think it's important to bring up a common misconception shown in fantasy settings or character backstories; everyone is aware of the eponymous huntsman, that cunning man or woman who fells stags and wolves with equal skill. Well, are you aware that venison was in fact an incredibly valuable meat in the Middle Ages? Not only was it valuable, it was in fact the MOST valuable meat available to a person; pound for pound, venison was +50% costlier than the equivalent beef, itself a raw indication of wealth in many societies.
>>
>>54191857
The stones can't be attacked. Ioun stones are easy as fuck to destroy and depending on them to function( just use a stone to get prof) can lead to hilarity.

True, but an Ioun Wyrd is vulnerable too, unless you have it fly off when battle starts (which would probably mean leaving the 30 ft radius Share Iouns works through. Besides, only plebs leave their ioun stones flying around their head instead of having them surgically implanted.

Would you allow an Ioun Wyrd hiding inside its master's Handy Haversack or similar item to still be counted as near its master? It doesn't need to breath, assuming it DOES still keep its construct traits when it becomes a familiar.

Only way is Kinetic Channeling feat from Legendary Kineticists with Slow Burn variant and being level 11. Otherwise all you can do is dip into a ton of different classes for extra channels like I did for Pendragon. Trust me, I checked all over. Your alternative is to play and Avowed with Aether Command to do it ALL DAY but only for a single ally instead. The AoE ability of Channel Resolve is incredibly powerful and generally shouldn't be unlimited as a result.

It happened all the time when I first started playing. Any time I had family, even tangibly related the DM always dragged them into some BBEG plot. So my characters became orphans, street rats, urchins, and child soldiers who may have been forced to kill their parents in one instance.

>>
>>54194469
I think pretty much everything in the war book got nerfed at some point during playtest.
>>
>>54194556
I was responsible for some of that, there were a lot of broken things in earlier version, like the feat for Soul Weavers that let them expend a soul for a longer lasting, moving totem used to have a duration in hours per caster level. Channel Resolve is still very good though, it just also requires a certain party composition, namely mostly martials that can benefit from the extra attack. It's a huge force multiplier because the more allies you get the stronger it becomes.

>>54194844
Sure. Dont steal the spotlight from the PCs. When I play one to "fill a role" in a party I dont even let the PCs use him beyond his skill set. His response to almost everything is to head back home and get a good meal. Forget adventuring and be safe.
>>
>>54194844
Background minor help. Drive a vehicle, cast minor healing after a fight. Never take center stage. If they're short on power, make a combatant that has less power than them or a full support. No SoD. No SoS. Always hang back.
>>
>>54194888
What if they need a frontline fighter/striker role?
>>
>>54194910
It would be somewhat odd for them to need that, as that role is generally filled pretty quickly. If none of them can really land the killing blow too well, talk to them about it, because there are issues of PCs feeling overshadowed when they aren't the ones to land the decisive attack or do the majority of the damage. If they're fine with it, follow the general personality rules. Nothing overbearing. Helpful and kind, but won't solve the problem. When fighting, never end it before they can take action. Be defensively solid and combat capable, but never a true cannon. Build to slightly below their level of optimization so they're still the stars.
>>
>>54194883
>>54194888

>>
>>54194844
Make them romantically and sexually subservient to at least one of the PCs.
>>
>>54194844
Speaking from experience, there is no right or wrong answer to that because it depends on a bajillion variables, such as:
1.) The general receptiveness of those kinds of characters by all of your group (I have a friend in my IRL group that hates DMPCs with a burning passion, and if he even THINKS one is being introduced into a game he's in he'll do whatever he can do either ditch them or crash the game),
2.) What the role of that character is in your game (Are they just there to be there, or is there a vital part of the team lineup that they need to survive?),
3.) Whether or not the PC has essentially been forced on the players or if they were given a choice (or even just a really convincing illusion of choice) to let them join along on the adventure,

among any number of other things that could influence the player's opinions on the issue at hand. The best advice I can give you is to ask your players up front what their opinions about it is and what their tolerances are, then try to work around that as best you can. Some groups, like one I'm in that does an "MLP mixed with Firefly" type of session loves one of the DMPCs that we have because she's our Nurse and is also a Secret Agent who kicks butt better than us sometimes, but she's also humble in a way that makes our characters look up to her. Other groups, like some I've heard, have to deal with DMPCs that are basically plot devices made to keep the party on the rails whether they like it or not, which will 90% of the time grind their gears. Between these is a whole spectrum and every group is different.
