Okay, amish might be an extreme word, especially with it being a renaissance-esque setting, but Orc "races" (orcs, goblins, hobgoblins, trolls, and ogres) as a general whole, disdain from larger societal structures.

They are the younger race and watch elves, dwarves, humans, and their ilk stumble about, managing bureaucracies, dealing with political games, struggling with censuses and do not understand how that helps a society as a whole.

Thus, orc-races tend to live in small, self-sufficient communities with an unspoken soft-cap on their population which have decidedly socialistic/communal bend.

But don't expect 'people's revolutions' in the near future since they expressly keep small to avoid that and remain 'socially maneuverable'.

There are variations within this model, for example ogres and trolls often live in singular family units at largest in the northern reaches. Some orc communities live as nomadic tribes or small flotilla. Hobgoblins, in general, are notorious for favoring stealing shit from others and conning people, which leads them to clash with goblins who are often settled, small agrarian people.

One of the papers for a masters in science here in NZ involves learning about the water spirits (not the taniwha). Basically, the local tribes will insist an engineer be hired to look at a body of water to help determine the health of the spirit there (and I mean just look, not run tests or anything for this particular aspect). The water will also be tested for "chemicals" despite the fact that water itself is a chemical.
If only I could remember the name of the report that documents this nonsense. It's about 40 pages long.

I have a half-orc Bard and he thinks pretty much just like >>54177395. Mom was a Barbarian, Dad was an Orc. They met in the battlefield, fighting on the same side.

The son grew up with them in their adventures, and he was more interested in the books they found and legends his parents told than in learning how to fight much to their horror.

Once he was of age, the kid simply set off on his own adventure away from the bloodthirsty psychos he had for parents. It's not like he hates them, he just doesn't understand how he could come from those two weirdos. (I still play him very violent. )

It's weird to realize to outsiders that the dislike of Maoritanga prevalent among white new zealanders looks like /pol/ to outsiders. It's not, we hated them and their bullshit years before /pol/ was a thing.

My not-elves are typically very maori in nature. Anamistic and ancestor worship, light cannibalism. Bit of tropical Inuit because of their whaling. I took the elf part and have that be in their careful cultivation of hundreds of strange and exotic fruits that they see constantly perfecting and making new ones.

I got my player into it by sending him a video of a haka. He then learned a few simple ones that he calls out before a big battle. Whip the party up in character and out of character.
