Odyssey has great art though, what the fuck are you smoking

sure the failures look like shit (just like now, or have you forgotten things like press the advantage), but I'm going through page and page of cool and interesting pictures

And unlike nu-magic, they actually have some artistic variation instead of the same fucking chinese art sweatshop hyperrealistic bland ass style on every single card, which weighs even heavier than pure skill (which is why alpha cards can still be fun to look at even though they as a rule are amateurish as all fuck)

No, because it was when I started playing, and therefore has objectively the best art, flavor text, and mechanics.

The game's art started to get shit around Alara, because I had been playing for over five years by that point, and the pure, wide-eyed wonder with which I enjoyed the game had been replaced with jaded grognardism.

All of the game's art today is terrible because they aren't using an art style that specifically lines up with my nostalgia for sets that probably aren't anywhere near as good as I remember them being.

The only periods of Magic I struggle to find shit I like about is the very beginning (Alpha to Fallen Empires) and the very latest blocks, which based on imploding Standard/draft attendance in my area appears to be a fairly common view here at least.
