What actually happened, was that while he was enroute to Terra bearing news of the Lion's treachery, he was found in a motel with 2 gunshots to the back of the head, execution style. The scene was later ruled a suicide by the local Arbites before the case was handed over to the Dark Angels and promptly swept under the rug.
