What do you do when the fire's gone out, /tg/? You've got the motivation, the synopsis, hell you've even got the plot structure, but when you open that word document to begin writing out the character you just... Can't?

If you're burned out, you might need a break. Take some time out, do something else for a while. Catch up on some movies you missed, read a book or watch a TV show. Give yourself time rather than forcing yourself onwards. Games are meant to be fun, after all, and if you're not having fun then you're not doing anyone any good, especially yourself, by forcing yourself to keep doing it.

I say stick your nose to the grindstone - resolve to write an hour each day, no more, no less. If the juices start flowing, then just write to your heart's content, but some people write in big bursts like that while other folks are better with structure - keeps you focused on progress while not overdoing it. Maybe worth a shot

Just use spirits to rekindle the fire. It burns very bright for a short time, hopefully the wood catches.

You sacrifice yourself to rekindle that shit.

Try thinking about the character more for a while. Try dropping them into situations in your head and see how they react. When you get a reaction, find out why they had that reaction.

Build them up until they drive themselves.

I find a good starting point is the classic "The BBEG asks you who the fuck you are after you kick in his door."

If your character cant come up with a good response to that, they need waaaay more work.

I play something less homosexual so I can roll 3d6 in order and figure out the character as I go.

This anon >>54046736 has the right idea. Drink heavily.

No, wait, I meant that you pour spirits on the twigs and light the match, and thats how you start a fire.

>"I wish I was a real author. I truly do." "I'm sure true authors do not work like this." "I still feel like a fraud."
>The person who wrote those lines was none other than Terry Pratchett (A Slip of the Keyboard). Now, if you already know the name, little more need be said. If you do not - Terry Pratchett is "currently the second most-read writer in the UK, and seventh most-read non-US author in the US" (Wikipedia). He's actually Sir Terry Pratchett, having been knighted in 2009 for "services to literature." He has sold over 85 million books worldwide.
>But Pratchett didn't write those lines back in the early 1980's, when he might indeed have wondered whether Discworld would "catch on." He wrote them in 2004, when, by his own estimation, he'd sold 45 to 50 million books (and was already an OBE, if not yet a knight). Yet he could still say, with complete sincerity, that he felt like a fraud.
