There's a quote I see often on the loading screens of Total Warhammer that goes something like

>I'm sure he didn't love me the most; that honor goes to Isabella. But he loved me the longest.

said by Manfredd. What is that even supposed to mean? I thought he was turned sometime after Vlad took over Sylvania, so it's not likely he was a vampire longer than Isabella, even if he came before. Even if he was actually far older, what does it matter that you were loved the longest?

Didn't get around to responding to the last thread. But Snikch isn't just an assassin, he's a ninja, and he triple wields, which you presumably wouldn't do unless you were dueling someone.

Statlines:
Queek:
M5- -Ws7- -Bs6- -S4- -T4- -W3- -I7- -A4(5)- -Ld8-

Magic items double wounds caused, inflicts a S 3 hit on attackers.

Snikch
-M6- -Ws8- -Bs6- -S4- -T4- -W3- -I10- -A5- -Ld9-

Magic items give additional -1 to enemy saves, cause d3 wounds per wound, can double his strength (to 8) 3 times per battle during the magic phase.

Snikch slays him.

Hey /tg/, check out what I picked up for only 7 bucks! It's the first edition RPG...I was hoping to find the much preferred 2nd edition, but this is cool enough!
>>
>>54008300
2nd edition is probably easier to get hold of and has a good pdf version.
1dt edition has sweet building floorplans in the back and stats for Zoats.

Can't say I'm not envious.
>>
So I wanna get some friends into WFRP and a chaos champion campaign seems like it'd be tons of fun, are any of the modules in the mediafire specifically for chaos characters?

You wouldn't happen to want to get a campaign going online would you? I'm really looking to play 1st or 2nd edition with a group, but no one is really near my area...

Some of the inside artwork...love it..

Thanks! Going to post a few pics of the inside... It's really a beauty of a book... My request still stands though guys. If you or anyone knows of any one looking to start a small online campaign for with a newbie, for Warhammer Roleplay, please let me know, I'd love to join, or help get something started...

Here's another color inside shot...
>>

Not him but I've always been curious, do people play RPG's online with text or with mics?
>>
>>54008830

I just play with coworkers when we all have off the same day so it's pretty sporadic, usually we just play on discord with mics but occasionally buy some beers and play in person

My group uses mics.

It further illustrates how Mannfred's personality is:
1) Daddy issues
2) Petulant
3) Know-it-all

By bragging he's still got more love than Isabella, he tries to make himself seem more important.

Deciding to get into fantasy/AoS, and I'm liking the look and idea of the lizardmen. Something about dinos riding dinos is great. Question is, local meta notwithstanding, how bad are they? What can I expect in trying to transition from 40k to fantasy?
>>
>>54010276
1st bit of advice. Get into Warhammer Classic...Skip AOS.

2nd. Lizardmen bad? No way, when played right, they can be terrifying... Well formidble at least. Skinks...don't underestimate skinks.

3rd. What army did you play in 40k? Warhammer Classic is a much slower, more methodical game. I enjoy it way way more than 40k in terms of game. It's very chess like in terms of thinking ahead.

Movement, and turns in 8th (and 9th) is vital. You don't want to get out manevuered, or flanked etc... You need to have units that actually work together to accomplish survivibility. not like in 40k where you just grab as much shooty stuff as possible. Trust me, if you like fantasy, and strategy and not a hyper active kid with 0 attention span, you'll like Warhammer....

AOS is 40k with a "Fantasy" spin..Avoid it.
>>
>>54006423
So do all the old kits still have square bases or have they switched to round now?
>>
>>54010328
I play marines, guard, and eldar. My general playstyle is a lot more static than is probably advised, so that might be an issue. So would getting the 'start collecting' box for the scalies be a solid choice? I'd assume it would be, but aside from it what else would be a good base to add too?
>>
>>54010349
Some round, some still square.
>>
>>54010662

I don't think what armies you play in 40K will matter much as the two games are totally different.

Lizardmen are a good army, the start collecting is okay but the knights haven't aged very well.

A fairly average list will have a big block of temple guard with a slann, big block of saurus and then some skink skirmishers and some big dinos.
>>
>>54006423
Does the infamous chinaman still make OOP fantasy armies/models?
>>
I found a website of people devoted to RPing as Bretonnians online. Surprisingly still active. I'm fighting my every instinct to bully them.
>>
>>54010921
Think I've got a general gist of what I'll plan on getting first then. Temple guard though, I checked the store site, and the only guard are the saurus guard. Are they the same thing? And thanks for the advice.

Got a strong love/hate relationship with Blanche's art.

A lot of his older stuff and things like city scapes or space ships are really pretty great.

I always hated his "sketch" pieces that were always splattered in red paint. Ruined the Inquisitor and Liber Chaotica books.
>>
>>54014366

Maybe 1 big unit of 30 night goblins, with 2 small ones might be better. You get more fanatics, and the shots are the same.
>>
>>54014540
But if I did 30 + 10 + 10, I'd only get 30 poisoned shots with the Spider Banner
>>
>>54014572

And with 50 globlins you'll get 35 of them.

However, you get 6 more fanatics with the smaller units
>>
>>54014749
Spread the unit wide enough and you'll get 50 though
Range, however, might prove troublesome
>>
>>54014814

a 25 wide units of goblin is going to lose combat and ranks from fucking clanrats.
>>
>>54014838
You wouldn't want them to go fight though, just shoot

>>
>>54007297
But if I'm not mistaken, queeks armor can reflect some wounds. If we are talking tabletop, the assassin has a better statline, but there far more that can go wrong against him.

If we are talking lore, I wouldn't discount queeks ferocity. The guy is completely mad and if the headtaker novel has any truth in it, he may actually have talking spirits that watch his back.

It's a batman vs superman argument in the end: the only solution is they work together better then against each other.
>>
>>54014859

The fact is, 25 models wide, it's ridicolusly easy to charge them. They have a fuckhuge front, and they're not a tarpit.

Right guys, so I recently joined a WFRP game and one of the other players is far into that guy territory.
>plays a dwarf
> an atheist dwarf
> who shaves

The guy didn't even read any of the fluff on dwarfs even after the gm sent him a wiki article on the war of vengeance.
The GM is a pretty chill guy and had a lot of trouble finding enough players so he doesn't want to kick him.
I had a chat with him after the game and he seems to have only played pathfinder before and has never played a game where the setting mattered.
The out of the other players, one has sided with his stance saying that a player shouldn't be punished for not knowing about the setting and the other didn't show up to the first session but rolled a stereotypical warhammer dwarf and seems well versed in the lore.
I am playing a bailiff going into politician, and devout sigmarite and was wondering what advice you might have on how best to deal with that guy.
>>
>>54016827
>atheist

>>
>>54016827

Are you submitting to the crapfest that is AOS then? I don't think they sell "start collecting" boxes for Warhammer Fantasy Classic. I'm telling you avoid AOS...it's not a very deep game. You should still be able to find Lizardmen armies around, and not for hugely inflated costs like Brets and Tomb Kings.

You shouldn't have *too* hard of a time transitioning from 40k, as the other poster said, it's a completely different mechanic, but you mentally have to be ready to play a different style.

So besides something like meetup.org what's a good way to find gamers not only in my area, but even online? Aka, people looking to start an online game of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay?

Not necessarily submitting to AoS so to speak. It's just that in my area the only actual lgs that I know of are GW, so my options are kind of limited. Of course, if i was desperate enough, I could take an hour or so to drive to a better place to play, but that option is also kind of limited.

>>
>>54017725

I don't like AoS but at the end of the day you have to play what people are playing near you and if that's what they play they kind of have you at an impasse.

I would just put them on squares and play AoS if you have to, you'll probably enjoy it for a bit before you start getting bored. Then you can move to Kings of War or 8E/9E once you have a bigger collection. I'm sure you can convince some of the people at the shop to play them as well.

They're one of the rarer bloodlines as it is. I quite like them because, if you DM them right, it's not even immediately obvious they're vampires at all.

Plus the fear of cats and m'lady weakness the bloodline has is unusual and fun.
>>
>>54022637
They are interesting and would be fun on the tabletop, like Nurgle/VC without needing End Times Posterboy Carsteins.

Jade-blooded sound interesting, but outside of short stories I can't imagine them being useful for WFRP or Warhammer Fantasy. They're basically useless unless Cathay became an army and you could take one on a hoverchair like a skinny Slann.

>>54022637
I think that's why I don't like them - if I wanted an enemy that didn't seem like a vampire, I wouldn't make them a vampire. It seems wrong to me that they are vampires if they don't really act like it, and the Warhammer world has plenty of excuses for all sorts of other crazy monsters that aren't well explained. I know it's a stupid bit of pedantry, but doesn't it take away from these beetle-sand-things if you find out 'oh they're just vampires?' Mystery and interest gone.

The article relates them to the Strigoi, but not only do they push their beastial theme far harder, but they don't have the fluff bits that I think make them interesting - they don't really act like spurned rulers of an ancient empire, and have cut off all contact with their ancient past and embraced their strange existence.
>>
>>54022821
Remember they were made for the RPG though, not Warhammer Fantasy.

Their whole shtick is being a far more corporeal and malevolent djinn.
>>
>>54022821
I think you find out they are vampires long before you find out about the sand beetle thing.
That's when you get the choice of joining them to avoid Bad End, slaughter their clan, or die horribly.

They're more like Vargheists than a full on bloodline like Strigoi.
>>
>>54022821
Saying they're Strigoi is a gross inaccuracy. They're much worse than Strigoi - crueler, smarter, and more cooperative.

Question for WFRP DMs - how do you handle new mutations that cancel out old ones? Let's say you got Additional Eye and then Featureless Face? Do you rule that Featureless Face erases everything except the new eye? If you go with new overriding old, do you discount erased mutations against the max count before turning into a spawn?
>>
>>54023192
Yeah, Strigoi want to build a functioning society that's equal with everyone else but can't seem to. They're like Egyptian moderates or 1945-1980's Turkey.

Mahmtasi or whatever are ISIS. They just want to destroy everything that isn't themselves.
>>
>>54023504
Unlike the other bloodlines, they seem to completely lack for any redeeming features, save the fact that many cannot bring themselves to harm women. But that's a compulsion, not a virtue.
>>
>>54023384
Invisible eyes. Or the eyes move off the face down onto the body or onto eyestalks, or back of the head. .

Finding a way to make it work is the fun part.
>>
>>54023523
Necrarchs are pure irredeemable villains too though. Most Von Carsteins as well.

The Strigoi comparison is only true if you combine it with Blood Dragons sans the stabilizing influence of Abhorash.

As far as being a "protagonist" goes, they are basically what Nagash is. Something better than Chaos where you actually have a chance to not only join them but rise through their ranks.

They're almost like if Nagash lead the Tyranids via Clan Eshin.

I actually find it interesting how their Antideluvian has ET Nagash's goal and Isabella's Nurgle combo thing. Methinks they recycled the ideas into the event.
>>
>>54023280
I personally just made kitbashes from my large pile of nurgle-related bits. Greenstuff helped alot aswell.
However the theme I went with wasn't Circus of Nurgle. Instead I went with a noblewomen and her household who gave in to despair after first withering the apocalyptic destruction of their hometown and then trying to survive in the hellish nightmare that followed.

Don't know if they'll get a start collecting, probably just a rebox with rounds.

>>
>>54023883
Night Gobbos will probably get round base box'd so they're not going anywhere
You'll still get plenty cheap night goblins off ebay if you want the spear variant, since people are selling the Battle for Skull Pass night goblins
I got 20 for 10€, and when I told the guy some of them were damaged in the feedback, he sent me 10 more

They're also unlikely to be getting a "Start Collecting!" box before they get new releases, if they ever get any

You remember that the computer is a retarded Bloodletter that has no goal except to rush you and cheats in its own favor, so you have to group up on them and aim for maps where your dudes all start in the same place. Use one fast runner with a big inventory to gather Warpstone after most of your dudes bog down theirs.

Guys,
I've posted this in the art thread but perhaps you could help me as well.

I'm planning a new terrain project for Warhammer and wanted to make a training ground for ranged troops.
online I can't seem to find anything that scratches that creative itch and am in dire need of inspiration.
While I do want to make a dwarf themed piece anything would actually help.
>>
>>54026143
Depends how large and complex you want your training ground but basically any shooting range is going to have at one end: old round shields like skellys used to come with as targets, on a balsa wood frame. Can model arrows or even bullet holes.

And at the other end; some kind of sheltered area or hut where troops would prep weapons and store ammunition. Raid you bits boxes for bows, handguns, etc etc.
>>
>>54025507

As far as I'm concerned people can discuss anything that's even remotely related to Warhammer. People can discuss ET for all I care I just don't think many people take it as /tg/ canon.

Another question:

what would you think of rat ogres looking very varied, in small batches? I have a few IoB ones, but now I got some Mantic Werewolves, who are much smaller, but would still make nice rat ogres, though in different style...

After all, ain't rat-ogres supposed to be wild experiments?

WFRP 2nd or 3rd edition, /tg/?
For a group who's never played either, and won't probably read any material before the game?

they can look varied since the creation process is in no form reliable to make any kind of "standard" rat ogre each time

Some Forest Goblins are actually mutated, they have multiple eyes and hands. You see them as the Arachnarok crew.
Scuttlings are structured like those extreme Forest Goblins but wearing Night Goblin hoods.

I can always play different rules, but WFB dead means no new lore or non-shit models.

I'd buy new Black Library or new kits. I bought Sisters Of Avelorn after all.

Even people who like AoS hate Sigmarines.

Even GW hates them. They're the Eric Trump of Games Workshop. They can't say they hate them, but they'll never be the REAL son.

Also, I'm the guy who coined that term.

Keeping the setting but switching the system attracts the mentally tumblr crowd that would shit things up, and it also would be dead as a game because who actually plays AoS that likes Fantasy.
Keeping the system while the lore is that much nonsense is also detrimental for the above reasons.
So if anything its good that GW killed Fantasy before raping it, as this way it doesn't suffer as much.
>>
>>54033891
So unless a Space Marine has an Imperium-issue Bolter, he is no longer a Space Marine.

Also, reminder that the artist for that piece drew Ultramarines drinking beer from cans in the same era as well as a female mercenary wearing stolen power armor at a bar. While female Orc miniatures were still being sold for Fantasy in the "Orc Village" set.

So its not like anything in that era in either setting was concrete yet.

I'll admit I enjoy Forest Goblins most for the not!Native American themes though. I wish I found them more useful even in Total Warhammer.
>>
>>54036104
GW added them late and at a time when they had already decided Black Orcs and Night Goblins are the posterboys, so they got little to no lore.
They're not even evil really. Their only enemy is the Empire, but only when it presses into their forest. Otherwise they just kill Beastmen and leave everyone else alone.

They just get drawn into WAAAGHs since other greenskins make empty promises of riches or revenge against Empire loggers.

I think the main problem with them is that they were made for the sake of looking cool - as a model, as a concept - and being marketable. But they have almost nothing actually cool behind them because they were made so shallowly - it's not like how GW made a bunch of factions for WFB and 40k, and then the Empire and Space Marines ended up being the posterboys as things developed naturally. You can't force people to like something, and it feels artificial when you're just going through a checkbox of likeable traits with no flaws or character.

Look at Von Carsteins though.

Its not that Mannfred outsold Neferata, its that you had an author's pet faction.

GW writing is as bad about posterboy factions as it is for "good is dumb".

Forest Goblins were introduced very late, by which point we already had a trimming of characters until you only had a posterboy (Grimgor, Skarsnik) representing the posterboys (Black Orcs, Night Goblins) plus the named wizard (Wurrzag) and the oldhammer holdover (Azhag).

Azhag would never get a book, since he's not the star of the faction.

I actually like confederating the Red Fangs just so I can get Rotgut - he has a unique model, and otherwise he's an alright lord. Since I keep going out of my way to save him from death, he ends up being pretty well leveled.
