>the weather changes and a mysterious fog falls over the city.

>Pic-related happens in your Setting.

How fucked are you?
>>

Not very. Everyone in the party is smart enough to avoid horrifying death in this scenario.
>>
>>53981891
My setting is already worse
>>
>>53981891
I have a long running Rifts campaign, nothing here to even break a slight sweat about.
>>
>>53981891
They'd assume it's a product of eldritch residue and send in a clean up force to deal with it on whichever planet it is
>>
Thais is actually how our DM said our upcoming Ravenloft campaign is starting.

Pretty fucked considering the people in the group.
>>
>>53981891
>the entire team switches to thermal except me, I switch to astral
We'd do a'ight. Shouldn't be much worse then that time with the insect spirits.
>>
>>53981891
We be fine because, according to the way the movie ended, everything will be fine if you just sit tight and don't kill your own child.

Seriously, that movie was shit. In fairness, I think the actors did a good job, but the script was complete shit. The characters were cliche, and the ending was a cheap let down. I looked it up because someone claimed it was "cosmic horror" and "inspired by lovecraft" and it got everything fucking wrong. Just having tentacle monsters from other dimensions eating people doesn't make something cosmic horror.
>>
>playing a CoC campaign
The only difference here is that A: now we won't go bugfuck crazy when we see the nasty critters and B: Our guns are now good for more an just cultists.
>>
>>53981891
I cast Cloudkill into the mist.

It's Warhammer Fantasy and they're going to be in Kislev, so this could LITERALLY happen.
>>
>>53986076
Your friend is an idiot.

The Mist (the film) is largely styled as a send-up of 50s creature features, and the stock characters (sans the bolivian army ending) are PART of that.

The novel (and to a lesser extend, the film) are more about how disasters can bring out the nasty, clannish animal in people.

>Ignoring the horror of humans turning against humans
>Ignoring the hopelessness of the situation
>Ignoring the powerlessness of humans to have any effect on the outcome
It's almost like the movie actually did everything right. Maybe you should read more Lovecraft. The reason that horror movies use cliche characters is so that they're easier to identify with.

I cast control weather.

Shoo shoo

It's not really hopeless when you can just buckle down, eat a sandwich and then the whole ordeal is over.

>playing Dark Heresy
this is what we call "a busy tuesday".
>>
>>53981891
Well, we're allready at the Winchester, so we'll get a pint then I guess we'll just wait for all of this to blow over..
>>
>>53986663
Except up to the point that the military arrived, there was no indication that was going to happen. The Mist had been covering the ground for weeks already, and when the protag left with his son and the woman he drove until he ran out of gas. IIRC there was a short scene at the beginning of the movie where he stopped to buy gas so he had a full tank. Regardless, he lived out in the middle of nowhere so him stopping for gas is a pretty safe bet. Do you have any idea how far you have to drive to actually stall out your vehicle for lack of gas? Even with a range rover like he had, you're talking hundreds of miles. I think it was a pretty safe assumption on his part that the entire world had been eclipsed by the mist and that he was probably going to die in some horrible manner, sooner rather than later.
>>
>>53986852
I'm just shocked the fucking range rover started at all.

Awful vehicles.
>>
>>53986852
Dude just buckle down and eat a sandwich. No worries.

Fairly certain the Mist isn't actual "weather", so much as it is semi-living not-stuff from Todash Space that only looks like weather
>>
>>53987060
All it takes is a single storm to blow everything away

"This is significantly more pleasant than our last job."

It moves against the wind.
>>
>>53987647
Just make sure it blows in one direction then. It will eventually go far enough in the opposite direction of the wind.

This must be the work of an enemy Evangelion!

Quickly, to the Astrofront!
>>
The cinemancer dies collecting charges and helpless tumbling into horror movie tropes, while the bibliomancer claims that the book was better. The entropomancer gets tackled before she can go outside and taunt one of the beasties for more charges while the masterless man avatar wishes he'd read the dark tower. They likely all live except the cinemancer, and then hunt down another cinemancer who probably did this and beat him/kill him for whatever stupid shit he pulled (probably flubbing a major charge casting)
>>
>>53981891
My character is a fire kineticist in a pathfinder campaign. Considering how the movie ended, fairly sure i'm totally fine.
>>
Well, it's a Dark Heresy party powered up to the point we once beat down a Black Crusade group of Nurgle CSM. This is just a normal Thursday. Hell, the Tech-priest could probably deal with it by himself if he's allowed his Servitor escort too, or the armsmen with the Voidborn Inquisitor. I can only possibly foresee problems with the psyker and cleric, and they know to shut up, stay back and toss unreasonable numbers of grenades at things by now.
>>
>>53989284
>>53989675
we barely know whats out there.

there is stuff on bio-titan size.

also the mist affects peoples minds.
>>
My character is a extremely stealthy character with pretty damn good non-visual methods of sensing things around him. He's amazingly well suited to what's going on.
>>
>>53990136
what about psychic fuckery? hearing/sensing dead people talking to him?
>>
>>53986893
What happens when you run outta sandwiches? What happens when the buckle breaks?
>>
>>53986852
The fact that the dumb bitch who charged out of the store at the very beginning of the movie (with that stupid, holier-then-thou 'I hope you all burn in Hell' remark) got to live is what made the ending shit.
>>
>>53990108
Well, two out of five of us are almost emotionless, we have seriously big guns and access to aircraft and orbital strikes, although we may not be able to use the latter two. We can probably hole up.
>>
>>53987753
>>
>>53990309
Are you for real? That's one of the things that made the movie great and the situation the character found themselves in all the more frightening, imo. There's no thinly veiled moral lesson, you being a good person has no impact on your survival chances.
