''Having built my first Primaris Space Marine, I am suitably impressed. The changes made to their anatomy have made them, in my opinion, the definitive Space Marine models. Considering that they are not significantly larger than the older plastic Space Marines, when accounting for the addition of an abdomen and better leg attachment, I think they would be an excellent starting point to build an force of normal, non-Primaris Space Marines, provided the Bolters are modified. For those not wishing to shelve their old Space Marine models, however, these new Primaris Marines will look good alongside them too, such is their quality. But as a blog that primarily concerns itself with creating small groups of models focused on injecting as much realism as possible into Warhammer 40k, we have little reason to go back to those old plastic Space Marines (but value their contribution to the evolution of Space Marines), and welcome Games Workshop’s newest creation!''

Well, they have the same size. It would be more interesting to see what we will be able to do with the new boxed units of Primaris
>>
I still think the old marines look better.
>>
>>53868871
Actually, the Imperial Fist Colour Sheme looks kinda neat on Primaris Marines.
>>
>>53869692

Possible you could bulk one up a bit to create Sons of Antaeus that have just adopted the Primaris identity as a cover for their own possibly heretical geneseed lineage.

I'm currently going to do up a small team with an Apothecary, though that means building a Narthecium that's Primaris sized from scratch.

I'm just going to continue true scaling. Nü-marines lack variance and their origin is pure heresy.

I would probably wait for a boxed release anon
>>
So what do we call the obsolete marines now that the Super Space Marines are replacing them? Old-and-busted? Antiques? Dinosaurs? Living Fossils? Adeptus Forgetus?
>>
>>53869793
>lack of variance
This kind of bugs me too. Part of what I like about having mk1-8 simultaneously in circulation and production is getting weird mixtures, customization and history in the models. Mixing in Mk3 parts for your assault marines, Mk4 for veterans, random studs on things, etc. gives it an extra layer of depth that appeals to my lore nerding. I hope its a thing that will eventually be incorporated into the Mk10 suits, but for now they're specifically suppose to be separate. Mk10 is modular within 10, but it limits options for conversions. Which seems like where they've been aiming anyway with standardization of models-to-art. You can do it yourself, which I'll probably end up doing, but its unfortunate its not as supported.
>>
>>53869923
Manlets?
>>
>>53869923
Thunder Warriors.
>>
>>53869907

Yeah, but I love converting and am also impatient. It's likely a Command Squad box would be out in some months, but I've got six Primaris and a good deal of bits to convert from now.

I suppose I could just focus on doing up some minor aesthetic changes to the two others in the squad right now; but I've got to scratch that converting itch eventually.
>>
>>53869940
Remember that we only saw basically snapfit chads for now. I'm sure they'll make them easier to modify with the next releases
>>
>>53869975
Probably. Its wonky lore wise, because if they discontinue the older stuff its basically throwing out a lot of modeling potential due to a lack of cross compatibility with older armour, but I'm curious to see what they do to expand on the new stuff. I'm not overly optimistic about what gw is going to provide desu, but we'll see.
>>
>>53870089
Am I the only one imagining small boxes with bits in them? Like you got one for older armours, others for specific chapters, a special weapons one and so on. You buy one and just mix it with your primaris
>>
What bothers me more is how the fuck are we gonna manage to make the Gravis armor look decent?

I mean sure the termie armor was in need of a replacement but the gravis armor is terrible
>>
>>53870212
>implying we won't see primaris terminator in like a month or two
>>
>>53870123
I'm under the impression Mk10 armour isn't in-universe compatible with the older versions. That's just from reading shit on the internet and I'd be happy to be wrong about that though.

The other option is thinking of 40k more like a future historical wargame now. If you're doing an Age Of Apostasy or Badab campaign, you're going to use the older marines. So I'm going to keep my bits, I'm mostly just meandering about how its could be for new stuff.
>>

I was debating between Blood Angels and Imperial Fists.

I actually can't find any CSM legs that match those in the picture, and those I can find that are close are much closer to terminator legs than general SM legs. This is why Primaris was necessary. GW couldn't stop creeping up the size of humans. The Astartes is smaller than the cultist. I only wished they had just replaced them instead of being an additional unit so that I didn't have to use manlets anymore.
>>

>>53872101
Well, I mean, they're not.
>>
Primaris are the best thing to happen to Space Marines. They look good, are well sculpted, and don't have the proportions of the average 40k player.

Remember, the SM kits are all in scale with the first modern gen 3rd ed plastic marines, who are in turn of the same size as the early 90s proportion metals from 2nd.

This is like someone bitching about how new guardsmen invalidate their dwarfism catachans with bucket faces.
>>
>>53877411
>This is why Primaris was necessary. GW couldn't stop creeping up the size of humans

And Primaris won't remotely stop them from doing it again.

By the next set of Guard releases, they'll be on 32mm bases too.

If you had an army of plastic GW marinelets you deserve the cucking. All the people making fun of marinelet despair don't seem to realize that certain marinelet sculpts, such as HQs or many FW ones actually still look good.

Assuming they make full on ones later instead of the easy build ones from the box set does it seem like the torso and shoulders from older Marines would fit or be slightly to small? Not yet. Just like the Dreadnought, a video was made of it, but no release date has been announced.
Considering we had the DG trailer several months before their release (we still haven't got their actual release yet), we're getting several months of DG and Primaris stuff. They'll probably trickle it box by box or almost, no point in oushing the whole range at once.

Also, we know that Primaris have a flying transport that makes Thunderhawks "look like toys".
If we get a bigger plastic Primaris thunderhawk, my wallet will suffer.
It would also make sense on a business PoV. GW sells the 40k olastic flyer, while FW doesn't get any competition to sell their TH for the HH.

So what's all the controversy about the Primaris Marines? Seems like you either hate or love them.

From what GW says, the Primaris Marines are totally optional to use and the marinelets won't be phased out, and even the fluff says that the marinelets can be upgraded to Primaris status.

What am I missing here?
>>
>>53897268

The Autism factor, false-flag trolling, regular trolling... New things have happened fluffwise, and people are trying hard to blow things out of proportion for their own enjoyment.

I'm of the opinion that it might be the start of a soft phase-out over a large period of time, or if they're going to go a new direction with Primaris Marines than regular SM, like having them explode into weirder mutant variants when exposed to the mutant lineages of Blood Angel or Space Wolf heritage, or potentially even those like Black Dragons which might make even weirder Marines.

First part is how /tg/ tends to overreact, because reacting to the news is generally what's done, and it's more entertaining to take a hard-line stance. Some of what's going on is probably trolling or trying to be funny.

Personally, my big problem is that the Space Marines got a new toy, and as a SMfag I don't think it's all that great a toy anyway. It's marines-but-better, it's not really creative and is a very cheap way to go 'look at this new thing you should want.' Imagine getting some cool shit for the Imperial Guard or something instead, where they can't just go 'super Imperial Guard' and instead have to try and make a mech suit or a new vehicle.

Movie Marines 1.png
663KB, 568x775px
>>53897268
>>53897335

The way I see it, people sort of complained that the artwork and fluff for the Marines paled in comparison to the actual model and gameplay.
The artwork/fluff shows that marines are hulking one-man army. But the model/gameplay shows that marines are deformed midgets who can only take on a couple of chumps at a time.

GW probably saw this and wanted to update their marine models and rules by introducing true-scale models with "movie rules".

Problem is that GW just can't bluntly retcon the whole entire thing by saying "hey guys, you can replace your marines with true-scale marines with fluff-accurate stats."
So GW had to come up with a FLUFF REASON to introduce fluff-accurate marines. Hence the Primaris Marines.

Also, remember the "movie rules" set for the marines that came out many years ago?
>>
>>53897268
>>53897335
>>53897472

Right now, the Primaris Marines have less models that manlet marines (no scout). But I guarantee you that GW will introduce new Primaris Marines models that will mimic the manlet marines like the scouts, devastators, centurions, etc.

Then once the Primaris Marines have all but completely copied the manlet marines, GW will phase out the manlets and will ONLY sell the Primaris marines.

GW will probably come up with some fluff excuse by stating that the Space Marine chapters stopped creating manlet marines and just switched over to Primaris Marines.
And the existing manlet marines either died off due to casualties of war or they just upgraded themselves to Primaris status.
>>
>>53897566
Just seems like an awkward way to go about it, especially when stuff like centurions are relatively new, and tacticals and such got a new box not that long ago.
>>
>>53897566

That'd probably be an edition or two down the line, a "soft" retcon, if you will.

Scouts will likely remain highly similar, but with updated kits. Fluffwise they'd be exactly the same for Primaris as OG Space Marines: aspirants who have yet to finish their roid regimen. Primaris just add three more organs to the normal geneseed count.

I'm actually kind of curious as to what the new three do. One to make them grow bigger, duh, maybe another to enhance all their other geneseed to fit their new form, and a third that maybe grants them some new ability we haven't seen in previous Marines, like the ability to shoot lasers from their eyes to compliment their acid spit or some such shit.
>>
>>53896064
>triggered
>>
I'm really disappointed by the Primaris Marines, both the fluff and the mechanics.

As others have said, GW just wanted better looking and badass marines to replace the old marines.

But GW got coldfeet and were afraid of the backlash, so we got the Primaris Marines and some half-ass fluff excuse.

If GW just made these true-scale model marines to replace their older models and kept everything else the same (stats, kits, rules, etc.), I'm pretty sure no one would have a problem with it.

I was really that the Primaris Marines are actually Thunder Warriors in disguise. As for fluff excuse, GW could've said that Guilliman discovers Arik Taranis is still alive and says to himself "maybe not all Thunder Warriors are short-lived psychopaths, I know, let's make Thunder Warriors 2.0!"

But then I'd be giving GW too much credit.

>If GW just made these true-scale model marines to replace their older models and kept everything else the same (stats, kits, rules, etc.), I'm pretty sure no one would have a problem with it.

oh yeah suuure...

I'm sure no-one would have still bitched about having to re-buy their models, there would have been no manlet memes at all and everyone would be super duper happy and have a picnic together.

How can anyone be this naive.

If anything I've seen quite a few people saying they're glad primaris are an addition not a replacement, and that they would have hated it if they were just "truescale" models making all their old ones outdated

>focused on injecting as much realism as possible into Warhammer 40k

fuck these faggots, 40k is supposed to be crazy and unrealistic, there's plenty of other 'realistic' focussed sci-fi settings they can go shit up.

Manlet Marines, Old Marines, Standard Marines are the most commonly used terms on 4chan.

In Dark Imperium they're called standard space marines

Yeah, making it a fluff thing was probably the better call. That way gives people who don't want to completely buy their army again a way to ignore it.

The bitching about having to switch to truescale was going to be high regardless, but I do think making them a 'new' thing helped to dull it slightly.

>>53899668
Yeah, I definitely agree with you there, having the Primaris as a seperate entity and thus allowing them to avoided or ignored if so wished has helped smooth things over for some.

At least for now.

Only the regular guys. The balloon fight guys, the fatcommander, the dread and the hoveraider all look fucking awful.

The Primaris Kharadron look better if you imagine them with visors down, painted in gold, like astronauts.

Eh, the Inceptors are alright. I warmed up to them once I saw a few different paintjobs and poses.

Don't really mind Dread and Repulsor is fine if you just take off a few of the missile pods (why are there so many missile pods?).

Captain is just shit though, no salvaging that.

I wanted to wait for the multi-part kits but here I am looking at my probably 50+ parts on toothpicks in front of me, and I'm starting to think maybe I should just paint the snapfit guys. They'll go together real easy even when painting in sub-assemblies.

GW really could've come up with something better for primaris fluff. Or no fluff at all, I would've been ok if they simply said "oi we're upscaling marines, here are the first"

Progress in miniatures is welcome after all, and tacticals primaris are cool enough to make me consider buying a squad in the future.

Honestly i would've been happy if they allowed me to keep using my marinelets and simply change bases.

But i guess they jumped the gun trying to "re-invent" 40k with the new nobledark shit and gutting the old mythos

Why don't so many people dislike the Captain? When I look at it I think it looks all right, not super cool like the models I actively like, but I don't dislike it either.

BA primaris look shit, not enough to break up the red

lmfao at all those deluded man children cunts who spent tens of thousands on model spack marines to make their ebin fake as fuck legions for them only to be retconned and become manlets in comparision to the new models.

I feel kinda bad for those who have a baisc army, but I'm laughing hard at the man child cunts who sunks thousands into cheap plastic consumer chinese capitalist shit.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

Still can't figure out why they look better to me here then in the original promo pic.
Is it just the slightly different angle of the models?

>are cool enough to make me consider buying a squad in the future.
the black minimizes the visual impact of the shit parts, like the backpack.
>>
>>53907927
Let me tell you I am so glad I didn't get too many Space Marine models before 8th. I've got a few and it'll be nice to have some of them for the novelty of having older models that are antiquated, but the Primaris stuff looks really good.

Unpopular opinion but I also like the Gravis Armor. Maybe it's the pose.
