Purely hypothetically, how dangerous would a Imperial Guard regiment made entirely from assassins be if it was somehow possible?
>>
Depending on what type of assassins it'd range from pretty devastating to everything dieing from WRYYYYY.
>>
Eversors are supposedly super points efficient so you could probably stack up on those. Also high chance of turn 1 charge
>>
a regiment has about 1000 fighting men, so you would end up with a force where each member is easily a match for multiple space marines

i will ignore, for now, the questions like where did you get them all, why the inquisition let you have so many, where did you get all their equipment, and why people let you have an army that can topple a small planet

given that an execution force, consisting of 4 assassins, are the people you call in to stop rampaging chaos sorcerers and warleaders, a regiment consisting of over 250 execution forces, all able to deploy at any given time would be more than enough to end anything short of a black crusade
>>
I see the confusion from Xenos unfamiliar with them now.

>Poncy elf 1- Look, guardsmen! We shall rout them with ease, as always!
>Poncy elf 2- These ones have skull helmets and seem a bit... unhinged though.
>Poncy elf 1- Of course, they're probably terrified to fight us!

And then they get run the fuck over like a watermelon versus a train on meth by screeching maniacs.
>>
>>53866263
Same problem like an entire regiment made of snipers would have in a modern army:
Suppressive fire from enemy infantry and artillery would lock them in place while your valuable assets get randomly blown up doing nothing until none remain.

The idea of special troops, like commandos or paratroopers, is to sneak them past the enemy's notice while you have them distracted with your cannonfodder. If you put your special troops on the frontline, they simply turn into more cannonfodder, as a 155mm HE shell does not care how much training and equipment a soldier had, it kills them just as dead as anyone else without the artillery crew even knowing where the soldier was exactly.

Of course this being WH40k, the assassins would probably just dodge explosions and resist being set on fire due to sheer toughness, so the better question is: Why send assassins to do in hours what you can achieve with a single nuke in a matter of seconds for a fraction of the cost?
>>
>>53866464
>a regiment consisting of over 250 execution forces, all able to deploy at any given time would be more than enough to end anything short of a black crusade
which is probably why there's small task force of ships with 250 assassins floating about. High Lords saving card against one event short of a black crusade every so often.
>>
>>53866757
>The idea of special troops, like commandos or paratroopers, is to sneak them past the enemy's notice while you have them distracted with your cannonfodder

Which is why Special Operation Forces usually operate completely independently and just rip shit up themselves, right?
>>
>>53866263
>Eversors all stand on each other's shoulders and form one giant power claw like in a cartoon.
>>
>>53866804
Yes, past enemy lines. Where you trying to be sarcastic or do you not know what behind enemy lines means?
>>
>>53866757
Basicly this. There are some Regiments, that were suited for infiltration, like Tanith, and to some extent the chevlar chemdogs, but eversor assasins are trained to make great damage, with small manpower, the eversor is the perfect example.
>>
>>53866263
Ever heard of Officio Assassinorum strike treams? Not regiments, but still.
>>
>>53866263
They'd be very dangerous on an open field. Logistically, it would be a fucking nightmare due to transportation of specialist equipment, mind-wiping, need for isolation and re-education etc.
>>
>>53866464
>a regiment has about 1000 fighting men

Wut? No hard numbers on regiments ever, tanith 1st had some thousands before merging with others and they were explicitly said to be small, and then there are regiments like the one chenkov leads that supposedly outnumbered nids once.
>>

Not to diminish the feat, but technically they wiped out a moon, not a planet. If an individual assassin is killing 1,000 goliaths a day, in 100 days that's 600,000 goliaths which might have been the whole population.

Still, if the effect of 1,000 assassins really was a slow-motion Exterminatus, then you have the rub: an ordinary Exterminatus would be faster and cheaper.

Broadly speaking they're _supposed_ to be a more surgical option. That example image aside, you send in Assassins when you want the leadership "SUPER DEAD" and the planet "still OK."
>>
>>53866263
Due to an error our Imperial Guard regime was sent assassins to do our SERE training and no SERE manuals. The men are now frightfully competent at SERE.

>>
>>53866263
Fluff wise? 100 of them killed almost 1000 marines. 10,000 of them would be beyond exterminatus levels of fuck everything.
>>
>>53868684
>>53878584
Honestly why did girlyman even bother with primaris marines, he should have just made more eversors
>>
>>53866804
>Which is why Special Operation Forces usually operate completely independently and just rip shit up themselves, right?
Sometimes they do, depending on the units.

There's some CIA and smallish Green Beret/JSOC hunter killer teams that are supposed to be independent.
>>
>>53866263
if it was eversors killing one would set off a chain reaction of exploding eversors, destroying your whole formation in a matter of seconds.
>>
>>53866263
Who says there isn't a whole regiment of Callidus out there doing exactly that right now?
>>
>>53866464
Where is it ever said or imnplied an assassin is match or great than a space marine? Ive always thought they are about 3/4 the way in between a reg human and astartes.
>>
>>53878584
I'd love to read this story...
>>
>>53866263
>Callidus
All of the Chaos Lord's followers were assassins all along
>Culexus
The combined anti-warp powers creates an ear of happiness centered on the first planet they land on
>Vindicare
Enemy forces shot down as they attempt to make planetfall
>Eversor
Enemy force wiped out, planet's population wiped out, no known means of recovering the regiment has been devised the planet is now considered a dead world for all intents and purposes
>>
>>53881410
the ones in the tabletop are more than a match for a space marine
the ones in execution force are going to kill multiple spikey marines on the way to the end
the fluff is inconsistent as always, as they are occasionally killed by an angry mob
>>
>>53881410
In the event that is referred to as the beheading, in an unsurprising dick move the head of the officio assassinorum has all the other high lords killed and goes all "the imperium is mine now kthxbye". It takes four companies of space marines from four chapters to assault the palace the despot is holed up in with myriad assassins defending him, and every marine dies save one.

This is the only time I can think of where marines face off against assassins, and the fluff is as always a bit vague but from what I gathered it goes as such: 400 marines make planet fall, half get killed by snipers, the remaining 200 fight 100 eversors and only the chapter master of the imperial fists lives
>>
>>53875669
>Broadly speaking they're _supposed_ to be a more surgical option.
I dunno anon, Vindicare, Callidus, sure. Culexus okay, for psykers. Eversors? That shit ain't surgical. A Space Marine tactical squad is more surgical than an Eversor.

A marine chapter fought 100 eversor assassins. 1 marine survived, so assassins are worth roughly 10 marines. 1000 assassins would be like fighting 10 marine chapters, although they wouldn't be able to hold or cover as much ground, they would blend almost any army they came across

I remember one anon a while back talking about the conditions under which different assassins are deployed and how treachery of the planetary governors is handled. When talking about how Eversors were created and sent out solely as instruments of terror and to send a message, he said something like "There are far more subtle ways to kill somebody, like snipers or orbital bombardment."
>>
>>53884610
I think the bombardment is scarier. Since it isn't something you can even pretend you can do something about. It's more terrifying in a 'they can do this forever, for almost free', way.

Easier to mentally distance yourself from a sterile bombardment. People are capable of dealing with that kind of fear and stress, even if it leaves deep scars.

An eversor is spooky in the same way the terminator is spooky. It's there to kill you personally and will not stop coming.

What happens on the blue chair?
>>
>>53883867
A Tactical Squad is far more vulnerable and less effective against deadly targets than an eversor, even if they are more surgical. But even then, unless extenuating circumstances prevent it, an eversor should be able to land in the target area and kill its target, without damage to surrounding areas. Even in that example of an Eversor facing Farsight, it was only a single earth caste facility that was destroyed.
>>
Just 3 of them genocided the entire population of a moon once, so yeah..
>>
>>53890371
There is no blue chair. All of them are black due to Administratum error.
