Why are humanlike species more accepted in fantasy than in science fiction?

Well, part of it is that most fantasy settings take place on a single world, and it's easier to accept convergent evolution within a biosphere than between two radically different ones. Another big part is that fantasy often has creation myths that are factually true, and if there's a creator then it's reasonable that said creator really likes a certain body plan for his sapient creations and reuses it a lot.

Because Fantasy needs lots of interesting creatures to butcher at swordpoint.

I'd say they are accepted in both to a degree that fretting about it makes no sense.

As to why fantasy is more permissive:
>Intelligent design is more often a thing or at least implied
>Ties back to mythologic entities that where likewise human-like, be it because they were intended to humanize nature or because they where based on actual people.
>Magic as a plot element facilitates conveniently human forms.
>There is no underlying ambition to represent the many possible forms of extraterrestrial life.
>Less ambition towards "realism" and scientific grounding.
>Almost never vehicle for a current scientific theory or development.
>omnipresent technology compensates easier for creatures that can not fulfill the necessities of direct convenient interaction with other creatures and objects.
>Sci fi creatures compared to fantasy creatures are more often a big plot device as opposed to a person among others.

Fantasy tends to be more closely tied to mythology and folklore which tends to be pretty anthropocentric.
>>
It's because fantasy generally has creation myths involving intelligent beings doing the creating, so if said intelligent beings favour a certain body type - in this case humanoid, then it wouldn't exactly be surprising for him to make a bunch of other races modelled off this body type.

It's acceptable in sci-fi if there's an explanation.
>They're actually related to humanity
>Humans created them in their image
>They created humanity in their image
>One of the basic settings of the ancient assholes seeding this area of the galaxy with intelligent life was "humanoid"

How humanlike are we talking? If it's attained space travel, and it comes from a goldilocks world, then it'll probably have more in common with humanity than not. Evolution is fairly efficient, and it'll select the same traits if the environmental pressure is similar.

If it's in space of its own volition, then it'll be a tool-user, therefore some form of upright so its hands are free. It'll be the dominant species of its planet, therefore some form of predator and have a predators build (forward-facing eyes etc). It'll be able to understand and communicate abstract concepts like higher-order mathematics, therefore it will have language, society etc...

I think Mass Effect had about the most realistic spread of aliens in modern sci-fi, magic blue space lesbians and hovering psychic squids excepted. When they came from earth-like worlds, they resembled humans. And when they came from environmental extremes, they still had the necessary characteristics of tool-using apex predators.

>more in common with humanity than not
Really depends on how you are counting. One way or the other.

Because Science Fiction has become infested with people that think "scientifically accurate" equals boring.

The truth is that while aliens could be very different from humans, if the planet they originate from has simmilar properties to earth, the "Human" design obviously works very well.

But its not like Sci fi these days is all about completely different aliens. half the time they dont even have aliens and worry about "Muh human interaction"

It took me looking at old science fiction to realize again that science fiction was never about "Human interaction but on a spaceship" but that science fiction was always about dealing with a story that doesnt work in our current understanding of science.

It is about pushing the boundries. "What would happen if X"

Modern sci fi isnt that anymore tho.

You're complaining about space operas and calling them science fiction. You don't know shit about modern sci fi lol, if it's just people on a spaceship having drama, it's a space opera.
