In a future sci-fi space mall where everyone has a 3D printer at home that can make anything smaller than a desk off of internet-accessible free blueprints and anything larger than that can be brought to you via drone, what would people do? What shops would there be?
>>
>>53836699
Obviously shops that sell 3D printers and desks
>>
>>53836699

Shops that have the blueprints copyrighted, cuisine restaurants, fashion&beauty parlors, maintenance for their printers and printed devices.
>>

Is there a reason why the entire mall can't be in VR?

Also, do you intend to use this premise in a TRADITIONAL GAME? If you don't specify that you do, then this thread is off topic.

Shit bigger than a desk for starters.
Anti-grav pods to attach to your shit bigger than desks so you can take it home.
Body modding, like cybernetics and reconstructive surgery. You can 3D print a new arm but you can't cut the old one off and install it yourself.
And of course the food court.
>>
>>53836699
Social hub, games, fashion, food, greenery, boutique stores, arts & crafts, children's playground...
>>
>>53836699
blueprint shops

Services mostly, ranging from food to massages to whatever. and cheap goods done by more expensive industrial in-house manufacturers; everyone has a molecular printer, but *really nice* molecular printers or ultra-efficient ones or whatever is probably outside the budget of the average corporate wage slave, meaning they're better off buying some things directly.

Also seriously, VR malls will be the main thing in the future like >>53836787 says.

Art will become the new salaried occupation. Companies will employ vast legions of artists to grind out novels, movies, video games, etc.

The masses of the developing world will be employed doing menial information sifting instead of working in factories: Think MTurk but employing whole nations.

Service people will always be needed in retail because while not every store will need salespeople enough of them always will, because some customers like that face to face interaction and will pay a premium for it.

Hell no, AI can be taught to create art, write literature and direct and create CGI movies with time.

>The masses of the developing world will be employed doing menial information sifting instead of working in factories: Think MTurk but employing whole nations.

The vast majority of people in the developed and developing world are probably going to live off a UBI provided by their government or megacorp walfare state supplementing that income by working in virtual online economies. Imagine chink gold farmers in WoW, hat traders/creators in tf2, isk farmers in Eve Online and very briefly auction house whores in Diablo 3 but crank it up to 11, patreon pledging, kickstarters and youtubing will also exist as alternative ways to money in an automated economy.

>Service people will always be needed in retail because while not every store will need salespeople enough of them always will, because some customers like that face to face interaction and will pay a premium for it.

Honestly retail stores and malls are going to be scaled down drastically as a customer can check his merchandise on his vr headset in the comfort of his home, place a order, pay with his credit/debit card or cryto currency and have it delivered to his door by a drone.

The mall wouldn't exist at all.
In real life the decrease in spendable wealth amongst the average person and ESPECIALLY the increase in online shopping has rendered most malls pointless or near-pointless.
Over 40% of existing malls are "dead" malls (no anchor stores to draw businesses and low foot traffic and thus low sales), and another 20% are in a financially struggling status.

Malls were getting outdated in the 1990's, it's just nobody told the builders of them and they started going bankrupt because of it when they kept making something that didn't end up financially succeeding.

You buy things that can't be printed. Rare gems, medicine, plants, good tech, and copy righted stuff. Look up how tiny transistors are or how complicated a processor chip is. Those will never be made well by an all in one machine. Even some simple things like paper towels don't lend to printing
